School me on 223 AICS mags

Over the years I've ran the old genuine AI 223 magazines, accurate 223 mags, and mdt metal and plastic 223 mags, and in a couple oddball cartridges I use the Ruger scout 223 AICS mags.

Genuine AI were the smoothest and I still have about 6 early production ones in service but near the end of their production run they started splitting down the center seam, and the thick reinforced feed lips didn't fit in all actions (notably tikkas.)

Current favorite are the accurate mags. They're smooth feeding (but not quite as smooth as the genuine AI mags) and reliable, but quite long being single stack. You do have to file the front of the liners for longer OAL.

Next up for me is the metal mdt mags. About as smooth feeding as the accurate, a bit shorter since they're double stack / single feed, but in all 3 of my 223 bolt guns they are not as reliable as the accurate mags and occasionally have feeding issues.

Last up are the mdt plastic mags. They feed ok but are horribly "draggy" on the cases and require a lot of force on the bolt to strip the rounds out of the mag especially for the first 4 rounds out of the mag in every gun I've tried. I was hoping they would work better because they're fairly cheap on the black Friday deals, but they sucked to use so I sold them. I haven't seen many others complain about this so maybe I got some bad ones where the plastic blend or surface finish was off.

Ruger also makes a 223 AICS mag for their scout rifle with longer feed lips than any of the other 223 mags on the market, but they don't actually feed 223 in any of my R700 pattern actions I've tried; the feed lips hold into the case too long and the cartridge enters the chamber at a weird angle stops the bolt; even worse with 223AI. Keep in mind the Ruger scout in 223 may use an AICS pattern mag but it is not an R700 clone action, so that's probably the reason; it was made for the Ruger action. However, the extra long feed lips on the Ruger scout 223 magazine means it works fantastic for reliably mag feeding the stubby little 20 vartarg in an R700 pattern action, while neither the AI, accurate, or MDT 223 mags would do so.

GEISSELE MRGG 6.5 CREED WRITE UP AND REVIEW

I'll be picking mine up tomorrow. Ill throw in my two cents initially and than after I break in the barrel (Geissele says 200 rounds but we will see if that makes a difference). It's good to see they are performing up to the expectations and hopefully the 14.5 mrgg-a gets released soonish once my bank account recovers.

An unapologetic thread about "manly" things...

Cub Scout knife was worn to school on the uniform belt clip, still have it in my rollaway tool box. First real watch, DOXA, still have it, used for dive time using US Navy dive tables before the days of dive computers you had to known your dive time and max depth to keep from getting bent. In those days 60’ for 60 min., computers are 60’ for abt 45min. We did not have Gezzer Gas, Nitrox, or rebreathers with computers just two hose and J valves and no BC’s. We were young, dumb and full of cum.

Backup generators - I've used them for decades. My take..

Out of all fuel options, diesel has the most energy content per gallon. It has a longer shelf life than gasoline, but for long-term storage, propane is king. Do you NEED to bury the tank? That seems excessive, but I’m in rural Alabama and can have a backhoe dig me a hole for $200, so whadda I know? 🥴
I'm up in Tn. You can't just burry an above ground tank.

I've had 2 fires on the property since we've had it. One caused by a neighbor being an idiot and another by a fire bug running around setting brush fires. I'd rather not have 1000 gal of propane in close proximity to the house above ground.

Night Vision N-Vision Clip On Thermal ?

$13k would be a pass for me, this has been in the works so long iray has a 10um clip on coming with LRF / ballistics onboard too.

At this point one of the only thing the Nvision has in my opinion is optical collimation. US core is great to have too
So the legit collimated clip on part is what is most important to me along with the ability to take high magnification.

If it does that, it'll beat anything Iray puts out. The biggest issue with all the iray and others is the lack of ability to truly collimate them (digital adjustments are too much vs 1/10th mil ect) and them actually being able to take 18x magnification without looking at minecraft creatures.

If they can solve that, or give me a cooled unit for way under 60k, then I'd say it'll be worth it.

At 13k for no on board LRF and ballistics, I'll pick up a ELR.

UNCOMMANDED STRIKER PISTOL DISCHARGES

While I believe that most striker pistols are perfectly safe for combat/ duty use, this does help reinforce my belief that hammer fired pistols are superior. In essence we are already carrying single action pistols with some striker fired designs so I’d rather just carry a 1911 or 2011 cocked and locked, or what I believe to be the most reliable pistol ever devised, the HK USP in that same fashion. These other videos are pretty silly though, The SIG 320 design is inherently flawed and unsafe due to its fully pre-cocked striker, lack of a trigger dingus, trigger and trigger guard dimensions, as well as a potential design flaw. You have to bypass the trigger dingus of a Glock to make it function as they demonstrate in the video and inadvertent contact with the trigger is highly unlikely to make that happen on a Glock.
Brother a 1911/2011 design is my favorite design and I build a bunch for friends and family but it has a problem of hammer follow you just don’t normally get with a Glock so o can’t say it’s superior for reliability. However if built with the best tool steel parts it comes damm close

As to the USP. Just freaking bulletproof but I hate how high they sit in your hand

Sig 320 I won’t allow on range I run. Just too many instances of bang for no legitimate explanation. Shame because another bulletproof weapon is a Sig 226

Rifle Scopes S&B PMII or M7XI

Both are excellent in their own right, depending on your priorities and preferences. I see you like the Lord’s reticle in MSR2 so congratulations are in order….

If you go with the S&B make sure to get the DT2+ turrets as they are by FAR the best option. Glass in Schmidt scopes is always very good so it’s a great option even if the design is older. I hear the new 6-36 is even better optically.

The M7 can be a very nice option but can have a wide variance in optical performance in my experience. I have several and a couple of them look excellent and a couple are not as good. Not worth paying full price for new but if purchased used for the price you mention, it will not restrict your shooting in the least.

I’ve had or currently own every scope considered mid tier and alpha class. I can honestly report NONE of them made me a better shooter, but some are more enjoyable to use than others.

I love the Tangent Theta and it is great in every way, except I wish they would put in the MSR2 reticle. No matter what, it seems to be a compromise at some juncture so I just pick my favorite features and go from there.
