Eotech vs Acog vs razor 1-6

Well it's a 10.3 so most close to mid, home defense , etc. I leaning heavily to the eotech and 3x magnifier for the wider FOV
Is it going to be more close range or more mid range and how do you define mid range?

As far as the Eotech goes, I'd put it out of my mind, unless you have a specific reason for wanting one. If you don't run night vision, it is chunky and heavy with a relatively short battery life for what it is. Unless things have changed, you can't just leave it on either. Shoot, even if you do run night vision, I wouldn't go Eotech unless you run it a lot and it offers you something that an Aimpoint or Romeo 4t doesn't.

You also don't need to spend Eotech money on a 3x magnifier. It's a 3x magnifier. Just about impossible to get wrong unless you try to. In use, I have a hard time telling the difference between an Eotech and a Sig Juliet.

The Razor is nice. Very nice, but again, it's heavy. If you aren't ever going to be running around with it or spending hours in a day running drills and practicing, you may not notice it. In actual use, it's hard to find fault with the 1-6 Razor. The only downside is that I consider it's robustness to be questionable. I suspect that the tube is thin and I've actually seen a few of the wire reticles fail. Of course, that's been over the course of a lot of years.

These days I value robustness first and performance second. I run two 11.5 rigs. One wears a 1-8x NX8 and the other an ACOG with a red dot on top. I grab the rig with the ACOG the most. It's just plain simple and bullet proof.

If 80% of your shooting is within 100 yards, there's nothing wrong with the Romeo 5 it looked like you're running. They are tougher than many give them credit for. Throw a magnifier behind it for the longer shots. If you go to 300 or 400 pretty often, the ACOG is the way to go.

On the other hand, as far as the actual shooting experience goes, the Razor probably covers all bases the best. It just wouldn't be the optic on my goto rig.

XM7 worries from the field.

The infantry (including Special Forces) may eventually be issued the XM7 and XM250.

In my time I had a Big Army issued M16A2 musket and Beretta in the arms room in nice tidy racks. Directly across would be our camouflaged CAR-15s with doo-dads and .45s.

Today it's M4s and Glock 19s.

The same will happen with XM7s if there's no advantage..

Eotech vs Acog vs razor 1-6

Another big fan of the Eotech. If your primary use is CQB/50 yards and in shooting nothing will be as fast as a red dot/holographic sight. And although I'm generally not a fan of magnifiers, the Eotech magnifies better than most other red dots.

I would skip the LPVO since it's heavy and just won't be as fast as a dot, unless shooting out to 400+ yards is something important to you.

And, if you are thinking about an ACOG, I would just get a micro prism instead. They are lighter and shorter and generally have an adjustable diopter. Also, I think the eye relief will be slightly better. And they will be way cheaper.

Saw you after a weekend hanging out with @Dirty D, it’ll tighten back up eventually

Dude, I've gone 5 days before between shits (in the field), and then crapped out bricks. I'll never have to worry about being tight...which is why I'm not concerned about prison rape. Nobody is fighting to throw their hotdog down this hallway...

Wrong

Computers being smarter and faster don’t replace people doing the manual labor involved in a resupply or refit. That FARP didn’t establish itself and an order of operations to effectively and efficiently complete the resupply task.

Even more wronger

Tanks crews do their own heavy lifting, there is no ammo carrier. See reference to FARP and how they get new shit on board

Mostly wrong

The 198 has been replaced by the 777, which is the ONLY platform you mentioned that would have a butterfingers drop a primer in the mud. The others are self propelled and have floors out of the mud.

Even the 777 would mostly likely be in a fire base or surrounded by people providing security so the string pullers wouldn’t be super frantic(with the exception of some instances)
If I remember correctly, the 777 is only lighter, based on some aluminum where there used to be steel. My first enlistment, in 1996 I was a 13B, assigned to a 198, fired the 155's prior to the crusader and the paladin. I've never been in a tank in my life. I'm not expert on any of that shit. Even my arty experience is almost 30 years old. This entire conversation has spun into a bullshit gotcha game. I've been speaking in broad strokes about development and you're trying to pin me down on details. I honestly don't give a shit about any of the details because the tech moves quickly. I have no interest in wasting time studying weapons systems that don't help me Bush hog my farm. The concept of technology reducing the number of people required to complete combat tasks is old as time. It has happened continually forever. To assume it won't continue and be aided by AI developments is kinda silly. We seem to disagree about the rate at which it will happen, so, it's silly, because you're crystal ball looks just like mine. We are both guessing what will happen. Like I said, let's come back here in a decade and see where we are. Cheers..

You say that in the same thread where it takes the DOD half a century to upgrade something as simple as the primary weapon system .. we have been trying to design a new howitzer for a decade, a mbt since the early 00s, ifvs same time... But sure we will have t1000 in less than 10 years around the same time the m4 actually gets replaced finally
Good points all..

Your posts give off the same energy as Elon saying we would have full self driving cars in 2 years, 10 years ago.

We are still another few huge breakthroughs away in ML/AI before AI will truly "remake warfare" in a way that doesn't involve boots on the ground. I expect most R&D and AI integration this coming decade will be based around how Ukraine held Russia back which involves soldiers moving the lines. Its providing great insight into modern near-peer warfare.

So I wouldn't say you are right. You could be, but you are just as likely to be wrong at this time.
I've got no problem being wrong my friend. It's happened plenty of times. Time will tell.

Joe Biden Has Cancer

speak for yourself. i get it but his crimes against America and humanity in general don't deserve a pass IMHO. he deserves way more suffering than he will experience.
I'm in agreement with you. He's been a miserable prick his entire career not just during his presidency. No doubt he's just a horrible dirty politician and human being. His dementia will probably prevent him from knowing or feeling the real pain and suffering he should endure.
