Talking to the Syrians about this is one VERY strange activity.
This is what it’s like talking to them about Palestine:
1. They'll all express support for the Palestinians
2. They're all hung up and wouldn't let go of their pro - Assad or anti - Assad convictions
3. #2 throws the entire discussion into a mess because they'll start their litany of all sorts of tribal grievances amongst each other justifying and reputing all sorts of whatnot irrelevant to the issue of the Palestinians
4. #3 happens when you ask them about Assad probably being the only major player enabling a reliable flow of arms (from Iran) to Hamas (not that Assad is an Angel, he's truly an evil little shite)
4.5. They'll ignore your question, "So who's going to be aiding the Palestinians now?"
It's like a cacophonic chatterbox of incoherent noise at this point...
5. Truth is, the Palestinians are second - class Muslims even in Syria - despite residing there, they are kept out of sight and out of mind
6. In line with #5, there are different tiers of Muslims - for instance, Indonesians working as Domestic Help in Syria do NOT have days off, and their passports are confiscated; similar issues in Saudi Arabia / UAE / Kuwait / Qatar
7. "Sooner will there be peace between the Muslims and the Jews than there will be between Sunni and Shia" - They'll get really pissed at you when you mention that only the Shias appear to be helping the very Sunni Palestinians at the moment
8. At the end of it all, you'll get so exasperated and may even say outloud - "Know what, not my problem - go kill yourselves."
