Is it time to panic about my twist rate being too fast?

Friend, I get it....big hunt of a lifetime and you don't want no bueno stuff happening.

But you asked and have been told at least 4 times that your RPM is well withing the envelope and nothing to worry about. So, stop and enjoy your hunt

Good luck
Oh, I know. I just want some 200gr TAs, that would have been my preferred loadout if they had been available.

*edit* not for this hunt obviously, but just in general.

Austin Tx

My wife grew up in Brenham, Her parents had built a house there when they got married in 1947. It was very common for people to work in Austin but live in Brenham.

Today, even moreso. Or, people who work in Houston shoot up 290 to Brenham to live. Brenham had the largest HEB store. Now it is matched if not slightly dwarfed by the new one in Melissa, Texas (north of Dallas on the North Central Distressway.)

Also, living in Brenham would mean that you are that much closer to Lake Somerville, a fisherman's lake.

Even not allowing for the insane traffic the commute Brenham to Austin is 1.5 hours. Add in rush hour traffic and its at lest 4 hours round trip.

But HEB is great. Whole Foods challenged everyone and the Butt's stepped up. Wish we had one here.

PVA Black Friday 2024 - Live

@bohem how about a 16" intermediate gas?

I emailed you guys about a custom barrel and never heard back. No rush tho.

Still loving my 18" PVA OBW barrel.

Maybe I should build a shorty spr build next - like 12 - 14.5 inches..
I have it on the list of things we're doing but I don't think we're quite going to be ready. I do have another option for you, I'll shoot you a PM.

Ludicrous speed

20" barrel at 42.5n I would expect to be around 2500-2550 fps. 5 gn less would would be roughly 250-300 less so that's in the ball park. Sierra list 2500 in a 24" barrel with 40.9 so 3 rn less is about 2320 fps and 4" is about another 100 fps for 2220 fps.

Unless something has changed Hornady list the velocity from an actual rifle not the Pressure Test barrel so their velocities are typically lower for the same charge.

This doesn't address the issue at hand. I have to wonder if you've used this Lot of powder in any other rifle? Also what is the date code and lot number? Hodgdon has put out lots of Varget that varied significantly by 2 or 3 grains as I remember. But this is much more significant.

Maggie’s Funny & awesome pics, vids and memes thread (work safe, no nudity)

Missed that part, I'll have to watch it again.

I'm all for fighting like you're the third monkey on the ramp if you have to but firmly believe in avoiding the exhilaration of gunfire.
A guy on a non-gun forum posted an experience he had this week of a strange car in his driveway at like 2am. He made a lot of mistakes and laughed at himself some but was asking for advice. Most advice was the typical rambo crap or gun brand BS ect.

I told him that going outside was the dumbest thing he could do. It has no upside. Simply turning on an outside light, an inside light and looking out a curtain would handle this every time unless it was a hit squad and if it is a hit squad going outside is still dumb as heck.

Best way to handle violence is to not be there. You can do everything right and still be unlucky.

I’d like your input

Guns should have disappeared; locks should have been changed; safe should have been moved/relocated/at the minimum the code should have been changed!

Hard lessons learned.

Yep, this is a case study in what NOT to do. I feel sorry for the OP. However for anybody reading this; stuff that is valuable to you needs to disappear on day one to a trusted friend. If she knows about said stuff, then it simply needs to disappear to a trusted friend with a bill of sale for pennies on the dollar. If she didn't take pictures yet, back date that bill of sale to before the split.

For several years back when I was in J-Ville NC, my safe was full of guns that belonged to friends... and then in 2011 I had a friend return the favor when it was my turn for the divorce.
