Maggie’s Motivational Pic Thread v2.0 - - New Rules - See Post #1

My turn. 30 yr dealer tech so tons of stories, but these are my 2 favorites. I'm standing at the service writer's desk, customer says "it sounds like a baseball rolling around under my seat". I went out and looked under his seat. You will never in a million years guess what I found SMH. Next one, guy brings in his bottom of the line new Lexus. Dash rattle. Drove it, no rattle, boss says fix it. R&R the dash, foam everything. Guy comes back, says "dash rattle". R&R the dash, foam even the stupid stuff. Third time boss drives the car, nothing. Tells customer to come in and demonstrate noise. On the test drive the customer tells me it's a waste of time because it only makes the noise on a sub-zero morning when he backs the car out his driveway over the curb.

I'll tahe a shot. Bought a new Tahoe in 2000. Not a month old there is a rattle in the dadh, passenger side. Tech test drove, could not duplicate. Advisors tells me maybe it was something you had in the vehicle. Hear the rattle before I get home. Take it back the next week, same result. Advisor is adamant, could not duplicate so I ask for the service manager. He tells the advisor to send the tech on a test drive with me.

"There it is, you hear it?" No. After four of five times he says, "Well, I have only partial hearing in one ear and almost none in the other." Drive back to dealer and ask for a different tech.

They replaced P/S air vent; rattle ceased.

308win, Varget, 168gr: Go to load?

So against the (better) judgement of the hide I choose two weights of Varget and just went for it.
A friend (who isn't a complete idiot) recommended 44gr seated off the lands, which reflected a lot of the loads people were using in the 308 load thread.

Loaded up 10 each of 42.4gr (seated to Hornady ammo CBTO) and 44.0gr seated .020" off lands.
Either had particularly good ES/SD, 46/12.13 and 38/11.76 respectively.
Neither printed amazing groups but both loads were a lot wider than tall, there was a gusty cross wind at the range which didn't help/

The 44gr load was only 50fps (for a lot more powder) faster, 2450 vs 2500fps, however it had the lower ES/SD and the groups had a lot less vertical (.3" over 10 shots). I didn't exhibit any heavy bolt lift, and the primers looked much the same as the 42.4gr load.

I shot some factory ammo first up and that had serious horizontal stringing over 5 shots, around .8" wide and .2" tall, so I think wind and/or my shooting was an issue.

I'll load up a few more of the 44gr and wait for some better weather.

Is Russia done pretending?

There is no winning move here, that was by design before the game started. There is but one conclusion,...

edit to add

Tic Tac Toe. There's no winning. They made the movie back in the 80's.

L42A1 New Build

I have a Genuine L42A1 in absolute pristine condition. It was unfired when i acquired it ...complete with full CES.
I very much enjoy shooting it but decided to keep the round count very low.

As i enjoyed shooting it so much a "Replica" was in order that could be a day to day shooter. Based on a Savage action with all original componets other than the repro scope mount. A genuine Mk3 No32 is fitted.
The barrel is a special order original profiled ( L42A1) from Lothar Walther ....match grade.

Doing some load development using the Sierra Palma 155 ...so far i am over the moon with the results.... below ... some 3 shot groups at 100yds. Awsome results !!!

Its a challenge using the 3x optics...but all part of the enjoyment..

Steiner T6xi

Hey all,
Looking at getting an optic put an a gasser and was looking at either the 2.5-15 or the 3-18 with the SCR reticle. There is a sale right now on these for Mil/LE that will be a cheaper than most competitors. Any reason to consider something else for the price point? I too am concerned about the locking turret issue (I believe that was it). If it can be worked out I would like to consider one. I was thinking about either the Mark 4HD 4.5x18 or the Mark 5HD 3x18.

Thanks!

The evolution of the 300 Blackout - great day at the range with Blackarc Munitions and Hornady

Curious if you looked at headspace with a Hornady comparator? Just curious...I shoot nothing but solids (Barnes and Hornady 110's) out of my Sig due to the barrel twist so any extra room in the case would be a boon. I ordered a small bag and got them in right before I went on a business trip so I haven't had a chance to look them over yet.
I have not; just regular go/no-go gauges, and I load to max SAAMI length on occasion but usually slightly under that depending on the bullet.

Those Barnes 120s usually push closer to 2.2” if I’m using anything over 19gr or so of H110, and that’s with the base of the bullet ever so slightly down into the powder charge. I typically only use 9 - 10 gr of H110 or A1680 when loading subs though, so I really don’t have any issues seating the bullet very deep in the case to get below max SAAMI spec.

Typical load length for me is 2.125 - 2.15” vs max of 2.25” (or maybe 2.26” IIRC?).

Maggie’s Funny & awesome pics, vids and memes thread (work safe, no nudity)

Wow. In an insulated ice chest! Must be a pic from a rich kid's place.

Ours was mixed with a boat paddle in a large green garbage can.

A few large Dixie cups later and the world would be "Crystal Clear".

Fun Fact: Adding mixed fruit for color and texture is cute until it gets caught in your nose a few hours later on the return trip back up.
A new garbage can I hope!🤢🤣

Mung at it’s finest! 😵‍💫

Maggie’s Man's Best Friend Thread

Time to give an update on my Roxy's struggles; tomorrow she will be 2weeks post-op from her emergency splenectomy/hemangiosarcoma tumor removal of 22 lbs. She is supposed to start chemotherapy (Doxorubicin) tomorrow for liver metastates. Her oncologist recommended she continue the Chinese herb yunnan baiyou, and is ok with her CBD. She is also getting fenbendazole, and I just bought some turkey tail.

Yesterday she was full of energy, almost ADHD if dogs get that, rearranging and dragging her XL beds around, and her appetite is almost back to normal (year ago normal!). She looks like a different dog going from 130 to 70lbs; yes she was obese but lost a lot of weight with both the cancer and the surgery.

Below, the first pic was her at oncology clinic last week, then her post-op, and pre-op abdomen.

It's been a struggle and I broke down and set up a GoFundMe. No donations yet. Gladly accept financial donations and prayers!
Thanks to MarinePMI for allowing my post.
Prayers for you and your dog!

Accuracy International AXSR ARCA rail and scratched cerakote

Having an anodized ARCA rail attached to my chassis will not eliminate scratches, but it will be more resistance than a Cerakote finish over what is likely a softer aluminum chassis.
The AI chassis on your rifle is 7000 series aluminum. The Sawtooth rail is 6000 series aluminum. The aluminum alloy of your chassis is harder and stronger.

And it’s not that you are attaching an ARCA rail to your chassis…. It’s that you are attaching an ARCA rail to your ARCA rail. Doing so doesn’t make you a poser, but it is objectively gay.

Accessories KAC URX4 10.75

This thing has lived a hard life, shot out couple barrels, milled slots for carbine and patrol length gas blocks, few layers of krylon, big ass dent on the 9oclock. Same for the BCM upper. Only shims included are what I used to time it to the upper. Wrench tool included as well.

Trades welcome (73eldms, 8208 XBR, factory 108eldm 6arc ammo, proof ar barrels etc)

$300 tyd for rail, tool and upper
