Going from G3 1-10 to HD5 2-10?

I have competed 2gun the last couple seasons with a G3 1-10 MOA and I hate the reticle. To me, the 200y zero and the thinness of the reticle make the scope less intuitive inside 150 and when I need the more precise hits out far the reticle is so thin that I have a hard time picking it up and actually seeing what yard line of the BDC I’m on. We general have a field or trees as a background, not a berm.

The FC-MOA reticle would be my choice IF it went down to 20-25 MOA in the stadia, as my 14.5s takes 20 MOA to get to 600, so it really doesn’t make sense for me to buy another scope with a reticle that’s not going to fit my kit and shooting style.

That brings me to the HD5 2-10 PR1 MOA. I’m curious and requesting feedback from anyone who may have been using this scope for outlaw 2 gun (5-500 yards)/speed shooting and how the parallax adjustment impact speed shooting. I’m not concerned if you shoot other reticles, really looking to see if I can set parallax and forget it and still have clarity and minimal shift on target. Parallax adjustment is what pushed me off the old 3-5-10 M3 to the NXS compacts and I haven’t looked back, but I have grown to like the FFP versatility.

All my field rifles have a red dot on top so 1x is not an issue for me. I generally use my LPVOs from 4-8/10 .

What scopes and I missing? Looking for compact, capped or locked turrets and a simple FFP scope with MOA stadia reticle that has hashmark to at least 20 MOA. Prefer at east 8x, would not be opposed to 12/14/16 if the scope was small and light enough. Vudu is already on the list.

Appreciate the feedback.

New Contest Starting Now! This Target Haunts Me

Was working in TX when I had to fly home to renew my DL. Chose to fly out a few days before elk season. I mailed my rifle back home & had a buddy drive me up to elk camp. Late in the season I heard an elk scrambling up the hill & got ready. Unfortunately he popped out only 10' from me. We looked at each other for a second (antler point restrictions here) & he took off straight away from me.I put the crosshairs on the back of his head & was a fraction of a second from boom when he got behind a tree & got away.

Proof Atlanta is a real shit hole.

Atlanta like most cities was once upon a time a nice place to live and visit because of whites........then another group of citizens fuck it up so whites move and create another nice place (Buckhead) and now its getting fucked up by the same people that fucked up downtown ATL.
DC used to be a great city, museums, music and entertainment, good food. A high education made it a fun level to visit. Then shit hit the fan. Id never go back.

An unapologetic thread about "manly" things...

You should make the time while you can. Of course I'll project a bit here, but: I used to enjoy a nice drink. I'd buy good bottles for celebrating "special" occasions or when I reached some life milestone, and then regular bottles to drink.

But those special moments, never seemed special enough, or got pushed off until later, or I still hadn't "earned" it. Then I was suddenly in a life-threatening, and life-changing, motorcycle accident.

And I realized, while in that hospital bed, that all the good bourbon, the money, the nice things, I damn near came and went before enjoying any of it.

Have a cigar.
Years ago my buddy was manager of a really exclusive mens store. They carried really cool stuff that you dont see hardly anywherer else. When I went into an excluse mens shop on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills they were all over me, they didnt have anything as nice. I was pulling in lots of money at the time and he would always let me know when the big sales came up so I ended up with a closet full of razzle dazzle clothes.

One day a different friend asked me why I never wore any of them..."Saving them for a special occasion" I reply. "Like your funeral?" he asks.

I got the message.

DI Precision (about post)

@David Lott, any insight on Vudoo rebarrel jobs? I’m on week 18 of the quoted 8-12 week wait so I’m getting pretty curious here. I wouldn’t think the Vudoo issues shouldn’t hold my order up since I sent you my action back in April. Just looking for an update is all, thanks
on 7/10 I sent an email and voicemail asking to verify the address for shipping. not sure why you're not getting them but I've also left voicemail and text.

The package will go out insured so somebody will have to sign for it, please PM me the address.

I've also screenshot the replies and sent it to you via pm.

As @Maurygold and @45-90 said, BC changes as velo changes, also I believe pressure / humidity change it a bit too (someone please correct me on that if I'm incorrect).

In a perfect world, BC on box would be spot on, however you trued your data, which is awesome.

I also noticed your 1000yd group is better than your 605yd group. People group better at distance because the proj has to "go to sleep".

*snigger*.

I eagerly await my internet fight..
I think hornady app has a a few issues with the group analysis. 6 inches at 1000 isn't .05 mil it should be about .16 - .17 mil

Interesting read

When you start with a whole bunch of false premises your conclusions will be exponentially more false.

His inputs and theories are the opposite of Behavioral Sinks. It is not physical. It's cultural, and his premises are all false. Universe 25 offers a hundred times more insight that this idiot. It basically demonstrates why man needs struggle, and why trying to create "utopia" (as Kemp and all leftists have as their objective) IS dystopia. He thinks societies fall because of the basket of ills that all the woke think is wrong with us, when Universe 25 teaches us that it is success and abundance that ends us.

Being a Christian is a direct or at least indirect inoculation against this. Believing we live in a fallen world and are fallen creatures as a basis for humility and acceptance of the world as it is pretty much prevent the faithful from believing in earthly utopias at all, and embracing the trials we believe God places in front of us makes us strong and worthy. This is diametrically opposed to woke theorists like Kemp who think they have the formula if only given enough power to implement it.

I do think it's interesting that he lists that the elites hoarding weapons, in typical totalitarian fashion, as one of his triggers, as I'll bet $100 he hates the 2ndA and the proliferation of weapons within American society.

I like me some Frontier...

Any Auto Technicians Here?

It's a 2010 Toyota Camry.
He got lucky if this did not pop the main fuses/fuses. I used to be a Toyota tech for a long time. Toyota likes to keep the hot side hot and turn on grounds to power a circuit.

A lot of the newer cars the battery is part of the circuit and they will not run if the cables are disconnected with the car running. Clearly the car had a battery issue and more than likely needs a replacement. Like others have said new batteries are a gamble. Most are refurbs essentially (the reason you have to give them a core). Interstate used to be good batteries or at least they were when I was still a tech. I have no idea now. I would just get whatever the local auto parts store has a have him get one of the jumper boxes to carry just in case for future needs.

Start there and see if that helps him. The PCM and other parts that require protection should escape damage from a reverse power like he did. Powering off the vehicle during the battery swap should also reset the PCM if you do not have a scan tool. The KAM will have no power so it should go back to factory default. I would also follow the battery cables to where they lead and check for any damage like melted insulation or signs that could lead to a short. He may have got the cables off in time before anything melted and popped the fuses.

Since I have the 6 Dasher with hybrid cases I mocked up some with the 7 mm dasher and 180 gr Berger bullets, I have on hand.

It appears the loads you have are already over pressure for brass cases.

I ran the hybrid cases to 65,000 psi.
Most loads with the 180 gr Berger at 2.620" COAL will reach 2500 fps plus in a 30" barrel.

RL 17 will reach 2600 fps...with hybrid cases...according to QL.
It's a big chore for such a small case.
The 166 gr Atip might be the best bet.
As close as I can tell with my specs im under max preasure still at 64193, this is gotten by trueing ql up with the ba.
Maybe you dont view the dasher max at 65000,
I am also using fireformed lapua brass that has about .5-.75 gr more h2o capacity then alpha or peterson.
That being said, I use ql preasure as a guideline for ladders, after that as long as I dont see preasure signs and dont have any issues I'll shoot as hot as the rifle likes to shoot, if ql shows its 75000 and im ok with decreased brass life I'll shoot a hunting rifle there as long as it likes it and bolt lift is compromised.
The 180 berger is gonna have to be on the list to try tho. Also would love to find some Rl17 again but for now that experiment will have to be on hold.

Elk Hunting Rifles, What are you Using?

Primary rifle:
Christensen Mesa 700 action
Outlier 26” 300 PRC barrel
Grayboe phoenix 2 stock
Hornady 225 ELD-M
Sig DMR 5-30x56

Secondary rifle (backup at camp):
Winchester model 70 action
18” proof carbon barrel 7 WSM
Diligent Enticer L-Ti
Manners Eh-1 stock
Hornady 162 ELD-X
Sig DMR 3-18x44

I’ll add that we do not backpack very far once we leave our quads. Usually only a mile or two. The 300 PRC is a build I will be finishing up in a couple weeks after changing the rifle from the win mag that it used to be. It will be a heavy sob but I am going to take a cow with it this year just to get one under its belt as it’s my first hunt of the year. After this year I will not be packing that thing around and the m70 will become the primary rifle.

CCI pistol match

I don't shoot groups for proof of accuracy.
Groups lie to me.
Makes me look like I am doing better than I am.
Groups wander relative to point of aim.
Actual target aggregate group size is 2 or 3 times average group size.
For that reason, shooting for score is my method of conparing accuracy.
For that reason, I reiterate:

No rifle can fix poorly made ammunition.

No ammunition can fix a poorly made rifle.

No two cartridges are identical as they roll off the assembly line.

Cartridge quality/uniformity determines results.

Try shooting for score with your rifle's "preferred" ammunition.
Not groups. What happens when punching center?
Inexpensive cartridges can't get the job done.
Too much velocity variation, too many strays.
Try it, 50 yards, for score. Compare results.
