Accessories Bartlein 26" straight taper 6BR 5x5 Precision - PRICE DROP!

Up for sale is the following barrel, which is a "catch and release" I bought it off another member back in January, but I haven't had (and sadly wont have) time to go after yet another caliber...

"Bartlein 26” 1.25” straight taper barrel from 5x5 Precision, .120 freebore, fired 170 total rounds. 5/8-24 muzzle threads finished long to be flush with fan Area 419 Maverick thread adapter. Black cerakote finish. Tenon compatible with Impact/LP Fuzion Short Actions, chambered for Alpha brass and Berger 105 Hybrids"

This description is exactly as I got it from the previous seller. Price is $335 USD, shipped and insured to your door. Acceptable payment methods are PPFF, Venmo & Cash App.

As a means to illustrate how good barrels chambered by Chad shoot, see one of the pictures below, the picture that shows the target, it shows the first 100 rounds of ANOTHER barrel I have which Cad chambered (6BRA), I was using a random load I had... This was NOT a finely tuned load, just the first 100 rounds (10 shots per target).. and trust me, I'm no a professional shooter nor benchrest shooter... those barrels are VERY FREAKING GOOD!

308win, Varget, 168gr: Go to load?

I'm hoping to find a quick and dirty load recipe for my 308 with Varget and 168gr ELD-Ms (or could consider another 168ish bullet).

I don't enjoy load development and the weather is forecast to be horrible for the next few months, so a known "node" would be nice.
Factory ammo is just too expensive considering I have dies, brass and primers already, and I don't mind reloading (just not pissing around shooting groups all the time).
So long as the load was on par with factory ammo I'll be happy.

I've been though the whole 308 thread, and with some extra searching found a few loads that kept popping up:
42.2
42.4
44.0

The 42 grain loads should be more than safe enough to just go for, the 44 probably needs working up to.

Was just going to seat them the same as Hornady Match factory ammo (basically 2.8 COAL).

The perfect suppressor host for hunting

Hear me out,
Why isn't there a desire [or enough of a desire] for a light, packable, big bore, suppressor host?

For people that chase "quiet" and also want to hunt with said quiet system, most are left with 300blk which is not ideal.
Why is there not an ideal caliber designed for throwing ~400gr pils at 1000fps out of a bolt action or single shot to get the most out of a quiet subsonic system meant for taking down game in swamps, thick woods, or near neighborhoods [where you don't want to bother people with muzzle report or a bleeding deer running through their yard]?
Why is there not an easily packable package that breaks down into a backpack to host such an ideal caliber and its can?

The best attempts I've seen recently are 338ARC, 8.6BO and the like. The best still isn't ideal. They're always in calibers that favor gas guns [which isn't ideal for maximizing quiet], and the calibers/barrel twist always sacrifice for both subs and supers, and aren't typically optimized for heavy subs. Most of these calibers aren't even factory loaded heavier than ~305gr either. Not to mention overall bullet diameter in 30cal or 338cal isn't anything to write home about at subsonic speeds. If you're going to go slow, then go big! We need a 45cal or 50cal heavy hitter, but where are they at?

I'm starting a project to put together something which fits this criteria, but I'm on a budget and I don't reload. What to do?
The best idea that I have is chopping down a Handi-Rifle in 45LC to 16" and having it threaded, then running it with heavies and my Fly45.
I just wish there were better options.

Central NC new member

Yet another lurker turned member. I'm fairly new to longer-range shooting, and currently digging the "mini" long range stuff (currently a bone stock CZ457 Varmint w/ a cheap Athlon Argos Gen2). It also helps when there's an indoor 100yd range nearby to get reps at. Starting to dip my toes into full size cartridges and looking forward to what I can learn from the hivemind (hidemind?).

Henderson neck turning

I made a thing & it works well. I used 1" bar stock cause that's what I had, but 1.25" may be a little better. I'm going to counter bore the case entrance a little bigger to help it clear chips better. Very accurate though. Trim first and easy change over to neck turn.

@flyer1a - Someone with CNC machines should make these. Forester carbide neck turning bits & could use century 21 or whoever mandrels.
Just used a 1"-2" mic to set the cutter.

I'm the best sniper on this forum.

lol jk

I'm a 20yr Army Guard retiree with some deployment time. Even with an ACOG I was out shot by guys with iron sights.

I'm in Missouri and looking to get back behind a rifle. Picking up an RPR and currently deciding on glass in the $1k to $1500 range. I like what I've read about the Leupold MK4HD 6x24, specifically that it's lighter than most scopes.

Loving reading the advice here. You guys have made a great community and I'm excited to learn and hopefully contribute.

Hunting & Fishing Official Hog Hunting Thread

There are random discussions about hog hunting but no official thread so I propose we start one.

This can be the place to post your kills, questions, advice, gear, etc.

I’ll kick it off with a few shots from kills over the past couple months. We don’t have huge populations of them here but enough to keep it interesting.

I always put the rifle in there for scale, that last one was a big fella!
