Rifle Competition Events Coal Canyon Precision Rifle Match

The NRA Whittington Center
Coal Canyon Precision Rifle Match (formerly the Sporting Rifle Match)
A monthly match from February through September
Raton, New Mexico

The Coal Canyon Precision Rifle Match is designed to test a rifleman’s skills shooting small (1 – 3 MOA) targets from approximately 200 to 900 yards in natural terrain with rifle and other equipment that they must carry throughout course.

The match format is 10 stages spread over a 1-mile distance (2 miles out and back) while carrying all gear for the day. Each stage has 6 targets at varying distances to be engaged with only one shot each. Target distances and locations are known to the shooter. At each stage, the shooter will have 3 minutes to configure/deploy shooting accessories and engage the targets with only one shot each. Each hit is awarded one point resulting in a maximum score of 60 points. Most targets can be engaged from a prone position; however, some will require elevated shooting positions with tripod, shooting sticks, or barricade bags.

Typical equipment used includes: a rifle capable of 1 MOA accuracy; rifle optics and ballistic data that allow for precise hold-over and windage, binoculars to find targets/spot for other shooters, and a backpack to carry clothing, shooting accessories, water, ammunition, and food.

The match is “self officiated” where squad members take turns serving as RO, spotter and scorekeeper at each stage.

Spicy grudge race tonight between Cleetus and Grannas racing for $15k

Quick summary, FL2K was a race last weekend where some bad ass cars race the 1/4 mile at Bradenton, FL.
Grannas Racing's Supra was the #1 Qualifier with a 6.63@220 for the stick shift class but said he did not hear them announce
them call his class to race. He missed the race, he's pissed and blames Garrett Mitchell aka Cleetus Mcfarland (who makes some great videos on youtube BTW) who is a competitor in his class and part owner of the track. The grudge match is supposed to happen tonight around 4 eastern, and the internet has been going nuts with memes and shit talk. I hope it's a solid race with no BS

Precision Rifle Gear The Barrel Burner App- help track your firearm and reloading components via phone

My business/coworker/shooting partner and myself have been working on this app for about 2 years. The Barrel Burner App tracks your round count on your firearm by simply opening the app and hitting the "I Shot Today" button where it prompts you to select which platform, suppressor, ammo, etc. The app can be used as simply or as complex as you want.
I enjoy reloading and trying all the different cartridges out there. Keeping track of my round count on my barrel as well as a cleaning schedule that I set up per barrel (I set mine to 300rds). This will inform me with a notification that a firearm/barrel/suppressor needs maintenance. I have done the notebooks, cards tied to each rifle, and a big ass whiteboard. It has been easier to update my round count with this app while I am leaving the range/match/class versus waiting to get home and forgetting that information. There is a notes section on your barrels where you can put anything important. I put my ladder tests with a date which I am a big fan of.

There is a free version of the app so you can try it out. It is available for Android and Apple. Here are a couple other screen shots attached below some of the features I personally find helpful.

Optics Pulsar Thermion xp50 thermal scope

Looking to Part ways with my current xp50 it's been a great scope 640 resolution with a 1024 display. I recently sent it into Pulsar to have a button replaced during that time, they recalibrated and installed the latest updates the scope will come with rubber eye cup 2 chargers' extra batteries, and I have never used the onboard battery unless I was hunting a tournament (5). I also have An American defense QD mount that can go with it 2750 with the mount 2500 without the mount. Priced to move

37XC and Berger 410s

After (finally) getting some Berger 410s in for my 37XC, I was able to get out to a private range to do an initial test using N570. The issue is that I was unable to find any load data whatsoever. As such, I decided to start a thread here for others who might either be using the 410s in their 37XCs or for those who might be looking for information.

For my first foray, all I had to go on was my limited exploration of 390 ATips - my entire previous experience had been with much lighter bullets (Lehigh 353s). With the Lehighs, I had gotten decent results with H1000, but I think that such a speed powder would be too fast for a bullet weighing 57 grains more. With the ATips, I used 120gr of N570 and it seemed to do okay for the limited amount of time I tried that bullet.

For the 410s, I decided to do a shortened ladder starting at 114.5gr and going up at 1gr increments so I could attempt to find pressure. I also loaded up 6 foulers - 3 at 116gr and 3 at 117gr.

Here is the average velocity for each of these charge weights:

Temp: 85 F Humidity: 30%
Seating depth (essentially randomly chosen): .020"
4 shots each, except for the two fouling loads (116 and 117), which were 3 each.

114.5gr 2849 fps
115.5gr 2873 fps
116gr 2873 fps
116.5gr 2886 fps
117gr 2900 fps
117.5gr 2920 fps - very slight heavy bolt lift
118.5gr 2935 fps - heavy bolt lift
119.5gr Loaded, but did not fire due to pressure at 118.5

Here are the groups - not that I was shooting for groups, but it's interesting to see. Of note, the lower end of the ladder felt like big heavy pillows pushing me back. At the higher end, it was hard recoil - and my shoulder started to hurt. I'm likely going to play in the 116 to 117 range.

Also note that this was a reused target - disregard the Shoot n' See targets on the lower left.

US Supreme Court Declines to Hear Ghislaine Maxwell Appeal

Trump pardons her by auto-pen on his way out to pasture (because it was all a "hoax" (disgusting) with no victims), as directed, so Israel can get their spy back.

Change my mind.
The US Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear an appeal by Ghislaine Maxwell, the accomplice of notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, of her sex trafficking conviction.
The top court rejected Maxwell’s appeal without comment.
...
The Supreme Court’s rejection of Maxwell’s appeal appears to leave a pardon or clemency from Trump as the former British socialite’s only potential avenue for release.

Improved Cobray shotgun LIVE FIRE VIDEO IS UP

I like to make simple guns, an interesting example is the Cobray Terminator shotgun. The Cobray is a single shot shotgun. It has a fixed breech with firing pin, often mistakenly called an "open bolt". Actually the Cobray is a unique system that is neither open bolt nor "blow forward". To fire the Cobray a shell is placed into the open port and pushed into the barrel. The barrel is under spring pressure and when released, is forced rearward into a fixed firing pin in the breech plug. The round fires and barrel is blown forward. To load, the barrel is pushed forward and rotated into a locked position A round is inserted, and the barrel is unlocked, much like an MP5, by pushing the charging handle downward. The barrel then moves a small distance rearward where it is caught by a catch. Pulling the trigger, drops this catch allowing the barrel to move rearward under spring pressure and fire. In the video below, you will see the host complain about misfires and light primer strikes. The Cobray actually has an adjustable firing pin whose depth can easily be adjusted...it is simply a threaded firing pin locked in place with a set screw. My improvements include a more ergonomically placed charging handle, an extractor, muzzle brake, and sturdy folding butt stock. A marketing failure, and universally hated, the Cobray now commands collector prices of around $1400.
