300 Norma Magnum Build – Solid Setup or Would You Do It Differently?

Hey Hide members,

I’m putting together a dedicated 300 Norma for ELR and long-range steel work — mostly prone shooting, with the goal of pushing consistent impacts past a mile. Weight isn’t a concern; I’m prioritizing stability, precision, and long-term performance.

Here’s the build so far:

Build Specs:
  • Action: Kelbly Prometheus Magnum Long Action
  • Barrel: 32” Bartlein MODBB, 1.25” straight contour, 5R rifling, hand-lapped, 1:8 twist (non-fluted)
  • Muzzle Brake: EC Tuner Brake Gen 2
  • Trigger: TriggerTech Diamond Pro
  • Optic: ZCO 5-40x56
  • Mount: Area 419 One-Piece 36mm, 20 MOA built-in
  • Chassis: Undecided — leaning toward MPA Matrix Pro II or Vision chassis or MDT ACC Elite (need weight tuning options, balance, and recoil control)
  • Intended Use: ELR steel, occasional comps — not for hunting or field carry
  • Looking at the black & acid red color by MPA or the Patriot color by Paramount Tactical for the MPA Matrix Pro II
Looking for your feedback:

  1. Would you stick with the 32” barrel for 300 Norma or go shorter?
  2. Thoughts on the MODBB contour vs MTU or other?
  3. MPA vs MDT chassis — which has worked better for you at distance?
  4. Any regrets with this action, brake, or optic choice?

Hoping to build something that stays tight past 1,500 yards and doesn’t fall apart after 500+ rounds. Appreciate any insight — especially from folks who’ve already walked this path.

Thanks ,

New Bolt Action Comp Ready Rifle on the Market.

Kelblys just brought out a PRS rifle that once they sell 50 will meet all the production requirements. If I know anything about Kelblys the fact they have over 82 confirmed world records confirms they known what they are doing and produce quality products. They are also offering 10 percent off just use the code guncon25 not positive how long that will be good but I know Gun Con is June 28th in Ohio. I attached a link direct to the Element Rifle, they have a pretty sweet setup you can build completely out with optic, brake and bipod even. I actually have one on order myself and can't wait to get my hands on it. The rebarrels are even a bit cheaper than MPA we all know of your a PRS shooter ever little bit you can save adds up. Slide on over and check them out.

Alternative choice to push-button sling loops on bolt guns?

For years, we have seen even the best brands of push-button sling loops have functional issues after hard use.
The internal ball/detent is susceptible to rust, dust and sand. Even the stainless flush cups seem to get pretty jacked up with heavy use in addition to rust and corrosion leaching from the infected/affected push-button loop.

This can continue to the point that the push-button feature becomes inoperable thus either locking itself to the flush cup or alternatively not allowing a safe lockup when attaching.

In addition to the above pitfalls, your sling can become a twisted mess if you are not rocking the limited rotation feature in the flush cups.

- - - - - - - -

We all have been using HK style hardpoints on our gassers for years with none of the above issues.
I was already looking at this for bolt gun stocks and the fairly recent introduction of MagPul's Para clip made me revisit the idea due to them being quiet, quick, lockable, and non-scuff. I have been running this setup on a chassis stock for bolt gun work and have found no negatives while still retaining all the functionality of the sling utilities.

I have to acknowledge that I am a sample of one and have had limited, but positive feedback from a few that have tried it.
So. . . . I am looking for feedback from bolt gun shooters that actually still use a sling for carry or shooting stability.

I am probably going to integrate a couple of solid attach points configured to best accommodate slings with HK hooks, MASH hooks, or the Magpul Para clips on future stock designs.

Any constructive input on the Pros and Cons would be appreciated.

No wind,
T

PCP air rifle recommendation around $1000

Looking to pick up a PCP air rifle soon to shoot some rats and squirrels that are stealing my chicken food.

I’d like to spend around $1000 for the rifle and necessary accessories.. not counting the compressor/pump or optics. Plan to use a thermal on it for night time shooting so needs a rail.

If you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear them. Thanks!

PS. Open to caliber suggestions as well. Have 1/2 acre here but back yard is open with no houses. I’m thinking .22 or .25, but I’m sure.177 would be just fine.

Night Vision Pulsar Duo DXP55

Great condition, only used in three hog hunts from a blind. Originally bought it for a 6mm ARC to hunt deer (during legal hours) and hogs at night aka ultimate package. Make the terrible mistake of selling my 6mm ARC package and realized I enjoy walking down hogs and going cyclical much more than sitting in a blind and picking them off. I will be downgrading to a lower quality thermal with wider FOV to account for this change.

This scope is awesome and is only slightly used. Includes everything like if you bought it from the store and still has a couple years left of warranty.

$4500 obo shipped.

Willing to trade for other thermals + cash, AP5-P, gold, silver, old US coins.

Will get pictures tomorrow.

2025 NRL Clovis, NM match

My wife and I are going to be shooting and RO’ing this match. This is a bucket list match for us. One of our favorite states.

Just curious who shot this last year. If you have any insights into the location, terrain, lodging, and the match in general. Especially if you RO’d. curious how shooting 24 stages in one day went for you 😂.

Seems like a decent drive out to the match location every morning. Might stay in portales or Clovis. There doesn’t seem to be much in the way of camping/lodging up toward the actual match location.

Stoked to go though! If you have any insights to share, please do and if you’re attending then I look forward to meeting you.

GPS unit advice needed

I have to rebuild some extremely old fences that are not straight and due to the terrain I cannot visibly shoot a line between the corner posts. What I want to do is the following:

1. Take each corner post as a waypoint.
2. Create a straight-line and accurate route between the waypoints and be able to walk that route accurately to set various stakes.
3. Alternatively, create waypoints in an app or on the GPS along that route to put down fenceposts.

Obviously it has to be accurate. What units do you guys recommend?

Caribbean Delegation Bound for Brussels, London to Demand Slavery Reparations

Reparations are due now to compensate for the trans-Atlantic slave trade as a way to tackle “its legacy” in contemporary society, including “systemic racism and white supremacy.” That is the message a Caribbean delegation will take to Brussels and London on a visit designed to elicit cash payments as compensation for “slavery and colonialism.”

Calls for reparations are longstanding but have been gaining momentum around the world, particularly among the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the African Union (AU), Reuters reports.

The outlet set out some of the background to the latest call to target Europe:

Organised by the Repair Campaign, a group advocating for reparations in the Caribbean, the trip will start in Brussels on July 1, where the delegation will host a briefing with European Union (EU) lawmakers.
In 2023, the EU said Europe inflicted “untold suffering” on millions of people but even though some member states have acknowledged past wrongs, no country has agreed to reparations.
The delegation will then travel to London, where they will hold a briefing in parliament on July 2.

The Reuters report goes on to state the delegation includes “Caribbean academics and policy experts, as well as members of national reparations committees established by CARICOM member states and backed by their respective governments.”

CARICOM has a reparations plan, which, among other demands, calls for technology transfers and investments to tackle health crises and illiteracy. The AU is developing its own plan.

An infographic details growing demands for slavery reparations. (Ufuk Celal Guzel/Anadolu via Getty)

Opponents of reparations argue contemporary states and institutions should not be held responsible for their past. But advocates say action is needed to address the legacies, such as inherent racism allegedly delivered through colonialism.

Britain has previously rejected calls for reparations even as the United Nations has added its voice to the call.

Just this past week a Black Lives Matter (BLM) affiliate made a demand of its own in the U.S. telling “white folks” the time has come to pay up.

BLM has also made the same call in the UK.

As Breitbart News reported, U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres in 2024 said past colonial powers “laid the foundations for a violent discrimination system based on white supremacy that still echoes today.

“Descendants of enslaved Africans and people of African descent are still fighting for equal rights and freedoms around the world. Today and every day, we reject the legacy of this horrific crime against humanity.

“[…] We call for reparatory justice frameworks to help overcome generations of exclusion and discrimination.”

HILARIOUS!!!!
