Reloading Equipment Powder Baffle for SuperTrickler

I have had a few requests for just the powder baffle that inserts into the supertrickler. So for those that want to dramatically cut down on the powder kernels getting loose and do not want the whole kit, I have printed up some single units. Printed with petg and have an acrylic window installed. Venmo, Zelle, PPFF or check

New Bushnell G5I Reticle

I just recieved the new Bushnell XRS3 with the G5I reticle.. Posted a pic thru it at 28 magnification at a set of rocks at 2400 yards. Glass quality is on par with Nightforces NX8 Line of scope but my 5-25 ATACR wins on clarity(cant tell with my chitty phone camera). Today was a perfect day to look thru optics for comparison to see what had the clarity. I rather have the EQL reticle but recieved this as a replacement for my HDMRII that had the diopter assembly failure. Bushnesll is out of stock on anything with the EQL until Septemberish. I think this reticle would be great for hunting as it is pretty clean compared to my H59s and T3s. Anywho just posting for those who are curious.

Happy Trails

Super weird issues on my .300 Norma Mag reloads

Hi everyone,

It's my first time reloading .300 Norma Mag but I've successfully reloaded hundreds of 6.5 Creedmoor rounds achieving 0.5-0.75MOA in the past few months.

Today, it was my first time trying both the rifle (brand new, Victrix Scorpio T) and my .300 Norma Mag reloads.

Well... it didn't go exactly as planned!

I had 3 major issues: misfires, hangfires and absurdly big differences in POI (Point Of Impact).

Misfires

Out of the 21 cartridges I tried to shoot, 5 of them (that's almost 1 out of 4...) didn't ignite the powder. It seems the primer exploded (C.F. pictures below), but the powder didn't ignite and the bullet didn't move at all (as far as I can tell given the measurements I did). Also, the primers which were deeply seated (more than flush) have bulged, protruding ~0.0095in after the misfires. Also, after disassembling one of these cartridges, it seems some combustion happened because we can see the boat tail of the bullet has "burn marks" (C.F. 3rd picture).

Primer of the misfire on the left, and brand new primer on the right for comparison:

3 of the misfires where we can see the protruding primers:

Bullet of the misfire on the left, and non-shot bullet (which I pulled) on the right for comparison:

Hangfires

For the cartridges which did send a bullet down range, almost all of them had a noticeable delay between the firing pin going off and the explosion. I (and people around me) could first hear the "ding" when I would pull the trigger, and then maybe 0.25s-0.5s after, the bullet would go off.

Huge differences in POI

That's the weirdest issue... we were 2 people shooting the gun (me and the range officer which has a lot of experience), and both of us had ridiculously big differences in POI despite similar muzzle velocities: for 3 bullets ranging from 2651 fps to 2667 fps, the impacts were basically 20 inches apart at 100 yards.

Reload components

I used:
  • Brand new, neck-turned (0.015in) Lapua brass, trim length 2.482in
  • Hornady A-Tip 250 grains bullets, COAL 3.6700in (0.060in off the lands)
  • 80.2gr of VV N570
  • Sellier&Bellot Large Rifle Magnum primers
  • Neolube 2 in the inside of the neck
  • 2.2-2.5thou of neck tension

Checklist

Things we confirmed at the range:
  • Powder wasn't wet: we disassembled one of the misfires: no sticky kernels, we ignited it using a lighter, the range officer said "it looked good"
  • Silencer was correctly threaded (checked several times)
  • No sign of overpressure: easy extraction, primers look ok, the cases even still fit into the Wilson case gauge (C.F. picture)

The question is: what is/are the problem(s)? There is probably an issue with the primers (which were brand new, stored in my safe with a dehumidifier) but what I'm really struggling to understand is: how can 3 bullets with such similar velocities (2667fps, 2651fps, 2664fps) end up with so big differences in POI (over 20 inches at 100 yards)?

Any pointer welcome, I'm completely lost...

300 Norma Magnum Throat Erosion

Looking for some insight on 300 Norma barrel wear. I've got 381 rounds through my barrel (Bartlein 5R 1:9"), and am already seeing close to 0.050" erosion. I've shot mainly N570, some N170, and probably 40 rounds each of H1000 and StaBALL HD. I really havent been pushing it with loads either, as I've been working up to about 3100 now with a 215 Hybrid. 200 of those 381 shots were a 220 LRHT doing about 2950.

I know 300 Norma is brutal on barrels, but I sure wasn't expecting that kind of erosion. Just the way it is, or an odd barrel? No velocity or accuracy issues, so it's really not a big deal now, but I'm trying to get an early feel for how long this particular barrel might last.

Thanks!

Slugging barrels......Don't F'in do things like this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The owner of the rifle felt it wasn’t shooting good enough. He thinks the steel isn’t good. So, he decided to make his own bushing and put it on a cleaning rod and push it down the bore to check the barrel. He feels there are tight spots in it. I’ll guarantee you that he scored the tops of the lands. Barrel is guaranteed junk now.
Any lint, dirt, carbon particles etc.... will get forced between the slug and the bore and your going to do damage. Worse yet.... a steel bushing was made and to what spec it was made to and your pushing it down the bore. Nothing but a disaster here.

Nothing in his email about how he’s cleaning it, how many rounds on it… how it’s shooting etc… not to mention what the diameter/spec he made his custom steel bushing to in order to check the bore.

Yes.... No warranty being given.

I'm refraining from using very choice words right now!

Who hunts with a 14-16lb rifle?

Curious to hear who hunts with a 14-16lb rifle?

Getting a new barrel spun and my chassis, bipod, trigger, action, scope and rings weight 9.7lb. Want to use this for NRL hunter as well. I can get a match heavy Palma barrel for $335 shipped so I’m leaning towards that cut to a 24” which would put the build at around 15lb. Would prefer a medium Palma but the heavy Palma is too good a deal. When hunting in Wyoming the rifle will be packed in an Eberlestock with a scabbard so the weight is on my back. Is this a terrible idea?

Also, is a 24” for a 6.5CM going to be detrimental to accuracy with factory ammo? I could go 26” I guess. Talk me into/out of it

Thanks I’m advance

Enhanced, Monolithic, Semi Monolithic AR-15 Uppers

I am planning a “SPR/GPR” build and wanted to see if there were any upper receivers I should consider outside of the ones listed. I would like to use a monolithic, semi-mono, enhanced, etc. upper to reduce flex on the barrel. Ideally I would buy a mega mml but zev, in all their wisdom, decided to stop making them again.

LMT - proprietary barrels
Aero Enhanced
Seekins (these have large forearms)
Icon (former mega)
Ridgeline Defense (can you buy just a receiver?)
Cobalt kinetics
Sons of Liberty Gunworks
Vltor (key mod only?)

What am I forgetting?

Remington PSR Full Kit Serial Number Question ECMSR vs MSR

I’m looking for some serial number information on the Remington PSR full kit with .338Lapua, .300WinMag, and .308 Winchester barrels. I have the opportunity to pick the kit up at what I think is a reasonable price. I have two to choose from, though. Both are NIB. One has a serial number of ECMSR000XX and the other has a serial number of MSR00XXX. Does anyone know the significance or history behind the two different serials? The ECMSR has 3 zeros and 2 digits. The MSR has 2 zeros and 3 digits. Is one more collectible than the other? Were the EC’s early units, and the MSR’s later units? Vice versa? Any assistance you can provide is greatly appreciated. One of those two kits is coming home with me on Thursday.

BnA Tacsport X vs PRO

Looking to get either a Tacsport X or Pro X for my 2 Zermatt Origins (2 stage). My understanding is the 2 main differences are the pull weight range and the polished internals.

Anyone have both and could you tell a difference in the feel between the two from the Pro X having the better honing?

Also, from this Chart it seems that my Origin may need the low sear which I understand is going to cost even more money on top of the original purchase price.
Anyone run a Tacsport with a Zermatt action without issues?

Thanks
