Sierra Precision Grip Mod

The Sierra Precision Grip is probably my favorite grip for a precision AR but one of the drawbacks is that the inside of the grip is hollow and it's weirdly shaped so there were really no options for storage. I decided to do something about that so I brainstormed some ideas and what I came up with was to cannibalize a grip that did have storage and figure out a way to graft that on to the SPR grip.

I had a Magpul K2 XL that I ended up not really liking much so it became the sacrifice for this project so I started hacking and basically left myself with this relatively small portion, basically the latch recess and "strut guide".

MAG1165_Feature_Magpul_MOE_K2-XL_Grip_03.jpg

The remainder piece was still too wide to fit so I had to whittle it down and hog out some of the interior of the SPR grip using everyone's favorite tool, a Dremel.

Once I got it to the point the door was flush with the bottom I held it in place with a couple dots of super glue so I could prep it for epoxy.

I'll need to clean up the excess tomorrow so it's flush with the bottom and maybe splash it with some paint for touch up.

Heat mirage

Had a question for the more experienced ELR people here. I’ve shot two ELR matches now (KRG and Nightforce, will be attending both again this year) and shoot locally at a friends place out to a mile. My buddy and I went out yesterday and the heat mirage was absolutely insane. The optics we were using was a Gen3 Razor and a SB PMii 6-36. Through the razor at a mile our target was almost impossible to keep track of. The SB was a little bit better but not by much. Here were the conditions. 50 degrees F, 85% humidity, and a north wind at 6-15 MPH. It rained all night the evening before we went out and it was overcast while we shot. We were shooting over some rolling hills with grass. It was the worst mirage I have ever seen. Is there a way to combat this? Lens filters? Changing optics? I have some experience with shooting ELR but not enough to know the answer. Thanks for any insight you may have!

SAC sizer die setup?

Have a question on my new sac sizing die. Got it setup like the sac sizing die setup video says. Got the decapping expander mandrel in it with a .288 bushing for my 6.5 Creedmoor. The bushing edge (facing the decapping end) is lined up about even with the top end of the expander section (closest to top of die). It sizes with extremely good neck runout (0.0005 to 0.001). However, the shoulder bump seems inconsistent (ranging from 0.000 to 0.002 bump.
Other question I have is it drags pretty hard as the brass is coming back thru the mandrel. It is not smooth. It is jerky and almost squeaks. I use plenty of Imperial Die wax inside and outside neck and on body.
Got suggestions for me?

This has been my varmint slayer for about 20 years. Lasered more ground squirrels than I could count.

It is a CZ452 Varmint sitting in a wild dog stock with an internal ammo holder. I had the barrel threaded years ago. Includes a DIP rail, tuned trigger w/Eric Brooks components and 3 magazines (2x5rd metal and 1x 10rd plastic).

Seems like this will be the bell weather case in the fake DUI arrests

Just a refresher- not the first of the nation wide DUI for profit arrests but one of the first ones to work its way through the Justice industry .

Kids life has been fucked up since 2022 over this fucking bullshit .
Now his charges have been dropped and the pigs that did this stripped of qualified immunity.

License temporary suspension, fucked up his scholarships , cost employment and I can’t imagine what his legal bills have been the last 3 years .

So some pigs can get free pizza of gift cards for hitting that quota

Scale drift issues

I have an old Lyman 500 and a rcbs digital scale. I was loading some 308 yesterday, and the rcbs was being a pain in the ass. So I checked it against the Lyman, and it was consistently 0.2 high. It would read 44.9 when the Lyman beam would read 44.7. Unfortunately the check weights that came with the RCBS 50grams and the Lyman only goes to 505. So I finished reloading using the beam and left the rcbs on all night. Went into my loading room this am, and zeroed both out, dumped 0.2 into the Lyman pan, then dumped that powder into the rcbs and it would not even read the 0.2. Upped it to 0.4 on the Lyman and then into the rcbs and it read 0.3. Is the rcbs unit faulty? I really want an electric dispenser for my precision rounds, but now I am nervous about getting one. Any suggestions?

The Hell with basketball & that "March Madness" nonsense- it's April & that means HOCKEY!

March madness is behind us (I'm sure someone won some kind of championship recently but I haven't watched basketball since Jordan, Rodman, and Pippen were playing for the Bulls in the early 90's).

I want to talk Hockey here- specifically AHL Hockey. NHL is fair game but in hockey terms- the regular season is over and regardless what league you follow the team's are chasing after their respective cups for the season.

Here's where we're at for the AHL bracket...

1745466002214.png

While I'm more equipped to talk AHL here- since we're talking Hockey I'll throw in the NHL bracket (I'm doubtful "my" team has the juice to bring home the cup here) but regardless...

1745466129500.png

This has been a particularly notable year for me personally and my enjoyment of hockey. As mentioned- I've primarily been focused on AHL games as this was the first year I committed to purchasing passes for the local team. The game of hockey has changed (or at least it seems like it has to me over the years) but I was able to witness some 'interesting' moments during the 18+ games I went to. One of which was seeing the opposing team's goalie clock a player from the home team. "Loyalties" aside- I don't know if I ever saw a goalie initiate a fight before this year. I also saw a fight break out... twice that seemed to include the entirety of both teams. It took something like 20-30 minutes for the refs to work out the penalties afterwards and added something close to an extra hour to the game while they sorted out the penalties for both teams.

I started a thread here after the experience of one particular game, titled something like "you matter". I stand behind the sentiment of why I started that post but the gist was our seats this year were next to two brothers... one of which was part of the Army National Guard and the other had some special needs. As the season progressed, I came to talk to these two and found out that there was something about the game that 'settled/calmed' the one brother and the other (for years at that point) was his 'hockey buddy' to take him to these games. A really impressive young man in my opinion and in his "just doing what needed to be done for his family".

Those are just the top highlights in my head tonight- not to get unnecessarily reminiscent either, just want to talk hockey here.

So what say you Hide, any hockey fans out there watching either the AHL or NHL teams chasing after this season's cups?

New reloader - list of components

Hello all! I am looking to set up a reloading room. I have read doc76251's fantastic guide in its entirety twice, as well as researching other specific items and looking at other guides. I have worked up a list of items that I plan on purchasing based on overall reputation, reviews, and availability. I am seeking feedback to see if I am missing anything or making any mistakes. I plan to reload 6.5 Creedmoor using Hornady ELD-M and, occasionally, ELD-X for hunting.

I have built up the following list, from Midsouth Shooters Supply, MidwayUSA, Brownells, and Little Crow Gun Gunworks; I am open to other vendors, but had not yet found a compelling reason to diversify (although that may change when purchasing consumables, e.g. bullets, powder, primers).

Thank you for your advice!
