Short, Really Short 308

I'm going to build a lightweight shorty 308 in a chassis, probably an SBR but in the base case pistol. This is for 0-300 yard night hunting with a thermal. I've been very happy so far with the performance of 115 Bergers going 2,950fps out of my 16" AT barrel. Just getting tired of toting that chunk around.

So I'm trying to decide how short is too short. 12" comes to mind first. Reloader guy is telling me quickload predicted the following: 95% powder burn with my current velocity out of 16" barrel. 2740fps out of a 12" barrel with 92% powder burn. That drops me down from 1,110 ft/lb to 970ft/lb of energy at max 300 yard distance. Wondering if that equates to a lot less knock down power in the real world. TBAC recommends minimum barrel length of 14.5" for 308, so I'm also wrestling with potential damage to my can.

So what does the Hide think, anyone got experience with a 12" 308? Am I crazy for wanting to try it?

Range Hard Cases? Condition 1, Apache, or just Pelican?

Need to update and organize my garage sale of range gear from various small cases, a backpack, etc. No plans on flying with it, just range and back. Open to a soft case, though a hard one with wheels seems like the way to go. I've got the basic Costco black and yellow tubs with no wheels and they're nice, but I've broken a number of the lids before so need something decently sturdy.

I know something like the Pelican 1650 would probably work (though I might want the next size up.) Before I invest Pelican level money, what are people thoughts on the more affordable options out there? For example, the Harbor Freight Apache 5800 is less than half the price. I've also seen ads for these Condition 1 cases which seem interesting (but then again, possibly just Facebook/online ad spamming.) Or, any other brands, options? Goal would be mags, range supplies, ammo, belt, PC if I'm feeling LARP-y, eyes/ears, admin, etc.

I've got a Pelican 1750 for one rifle and it's bombproof. I got one of the smaller Pelican Vaults for handguns and it's decent, but I should have gotten something larger. So a small concern is also buying too small again. Would rather have a little extra space than not.

SOLD 1903 Springfield Sniper w/ Warner-Swasey scope REDUCED 2K

$sold I am selling my 1903 Springfield 30-06 sniper rifle with Warner-Swasey telescopic scope and scope case. SA ordnance bomb marked, 8-17. Scope is functional. The glass shows lots of tiny specs, but you can see what you're aiming at and the fine crosshairs are intact. A person braver than myself might be able to open it up and restore to almost like new. The glass itself appears to be unmolested with no scratches or nicks. The rubber eye-cup is intact, but very stiff and non-pliable. Silicone rejuvenator might restore it. The leather case is in fairly good condition on the outside, fabric lining on the inside is worn. Stitching is solid with the top cover buckle intact. Bottom accessory pouch is missing the buckle. Web belt hanger is there. Maker stamped on the back, "Diamond". The rifle itself is in good working order with the expected nicks, scratches and patina. Stock is solid. Front sight hood. Shipped to your FFL, C&R eligible.

Night Vision N-Vision Clip On Thermal ?

This may be old news and already hashed out.
If so, advise link to current thread and I will delete this.

Is this thermal clip-on new or is it just an existing HALO / NOX family device stuck in front of a day optic?

If new, is there anyone here with any hands-on experience and feedback?

For the techno nerd, does the limited info listed sound good?

The Hell with basketball & that "March Madness" nonsense- it's April & that means HOCKEY!

March madness is behind us (I'm sure someone won some kind of championship recently but I haven't watched basketball since Jordan, Rodman, and Pippen were playing for the Bulls in the early 90's).

I want to talk Hockey here- specifically AHL Hockey. NHL is fair game but in hockey terms- the regular season is over and regardless what league you follow the team's are chasing after their respective cups for the season.

Here's where we're at for the AHL bracket...

1745466002214.png

While I'm more equipped to talk AHL here- since we're talking Hockey I'll throw in the NHL bracket (I'm doubtful "my" team has the juice to bring home the cup here) but regardless...

1745466129500.png

This has been a particularly notable year for me personally and my enjoyment of hockey. As mentioned- I've primarily been focused on AHL games as this was the first year I committed to purchasing passes for the local team. The game of hockey has changed (or at least it seems like it has to me over the years) but I was able to witness some 'interesting' moments during the 18+ games I went to. One of which was seeing the opposing team's goalie clock a player from the home team. "Loyalties" aside- I don't know if I ever saw a goalie initiate a fight before this year. I also saw a fight break out... twice that seemed to include the entirety of both teams. It took something like 20-30 minutes for the refs to work out the penalties afterwards and added something close to an extra hour to the game while they sorted out the penalties for both teams.

I started a thread here after the experience of one particular game, titled something like "you matter". I stand behind the sentiment of why I started that post but the gist was our seats this year were next to two brothers... one of which was part of the Army National Guard and the other had some special needs. As the season progressed, I came to talk to these two and found out that there was something about the game that 'settled/calmed' the one brother and the other (for years at that point) was his 'hockey buddy' to take him to these games. A really impressive young man in my opinion and in his "just doing what needed to be done for his family".

Those are just the top highlights in my head tonight- not to get unnecessarily reminiscent either, just want to talk hockey here.

So what say you Hide, any hockey fans out there watching either the AHL or NHL teams chasing after this season's cups?

Felony trespassing? Is that what folks get locked up for now?

We all knew there was no "Insurrection."

So how do the fake news and fake politicians and fake 'revolutionaries' and fake charges... now handle the fact that under scrutiny, a few folks 'might' have trespassed.

And I'd argue that 'walking through the halls of the Capitol (OUR building) is NOT trespassing. But entering offices and stealing souvenirs probably 'is' trespassing. Or worse? But not locked up without trial for 4 years... worse.

Trespassing... well, we all knew it. DIdn't we?

So... what happens now? My guess is that the 'trespassers' stay locked up on false charges until something changes other than a SCOTUS decision. I doubt they have the power to require release of American political prisoners.

On the other hand... and here is something to consider. Pelosi and the Xiden thugs have now set a precedent. That political opponents can be locked up without trial for years. Merely if charged with something... bad sounding. So a new DoJ with a solid AG... Who is pro-American... could theoretically order the arrest and imprisonment of anyone who appears to have staged an 'insurrection' between 2017 and 2021. That list is long. That list includes a lot of people who are 'known' to have done some 'insurrectiony-things.' Faking evidence. Paying witnesses. Lawfare. Spying. Stealing elections. Defying military orders from civilian chain of command. All in the name of bringing down a sitting, duly-elected President. Which, if I read my Websters right, is the 'actual' definition of an insurrection.

ASGH... but precedents work both ways. Best way to avoid precedent-setting is to release all the J6 'trespassers' with an apology (and probably a big payout)... .and say "This should never have happened."

Because payback is a bitch. And can be used by both sides. Not that we should descend to that in America. We are better than that. But if that is the tactic being used against Americans. By communists, foreign powers and, well, insurrectionists with big financial backers and dreams of socialist paradises.

And it's time it works both ways.

Cheers,

Sirhr
