RRS TFCT 14L w Anvil 30 too heavy for backpack backcountry hunting?

Rugged remote Idaho spring bear hunt (flying into the Frank Church), we'll be trying to avoid any unnecessary weight. Trying to decide whether to take a bipod or a tripod, leaning towards the latter. My hunting buddy says re: RRS "no way man! Those things are too damn heavy!" He's looking at the AZIAK Ridgeline. I'm thinking that thing is too flimsy, too short, and to made in China-ey, but at 1.5# it's a full 2# lighter than the RRS 14L

Has anybody carried a 14L straight up a hill for several miles and several thousands of feet and regretted it or not?

What's the best compromise of weight, stability, and height for this application?

Look what Maggot just found.

I had been wanting a lever action rifle because...lever actions are cool. Lusted after the new S&W 1854 in 44 Mag. but the 44 isnt that great of long range cartridge.

And I'd been wanting aa .22 because...affordable (unless you get really serious), but I hate the cheaper new Savage's and Ruger's, mostly short barrels and the mags are expensive, cheezy, and dont last well...in my experience.

So I was a bit stumped, and then I stumbled across the:

Marlin 39 A, lever action .22 caliber. 24" barrel and great holy moly no mag, reliably tube fed. Made in 1941 in what I'd call overall good condition. Small spot of rust on the receiver but other than that good to very good. I got a deal because everybody was afraid of the rust. May just be an abrasion or somebody tried to sand it. Dosent concern me, for me this isnt a collector, its a shooter. The funny looking line in front of the receiver is really a finely fitted machine work, just shows up bad in the photo, maybe the flash. Range day tomorrow.

If you know anything about these, wisdom welcomed.

Results April 2025 Topstraps Rimfire Challenge

April shoot is in the books, was REALLY cold and blustery on Friday, started off cold and calm but as the day went on wind picked up. Saturday was a bit better but could still see your breath and Sunday got up to 60 and decent. Not a big turnout, not sure if cold conditions, a few other shoots going on or maybe some are just getting tired of the matches but those that came had a good time.

I added a few new targets for the bonus, mini little gongs going from 6" down to 1", I thought they looked like little frog heads so called it Frogger, you hit the first you jumped to next one, you missed you jumped back. You got 8 shots at 6 targets. If you got all 6 straight thru I gave you the last two points as a bonus. A few managed to do it straight thru.

Scores continue to go up a bit as more shooters are using better ammo, lots of Lapua SLR being used even though it's hard to snatch up. You sure can tell the difference watching thru the spotting scope and seeing the hits on the targets. Some still enjoy using upper middle range ammo and trying to beat the high end ammo scores. Chris and I shot peep sighted gun, I used an old Winchester 52D and He used a BSA Martini MK II, we both used SK Biathlon. He shot in mid day with bad lighting and I shot earlier with overcast skies so the targets stood out. Really fun using these old guns on 4moa targets from 25 yards out to 197 yards. He got 5 of the bonus and I only got 4. Cuda used $1.06/50 Aguilla and he actually didn't do bad but some places It prob had a 100fps spread it was off so far but he had fun, he showed them last year, using Lapua SLR and the same gun he won the match besting all the big guns. Makes ya wonder, it's all in the ammo.

Anyway, Randy Wise used his McGowen barreled Anschutz Pistol to eek out the win by reverse count. Seems that new barrel is gonna be a shooter. Kurt was on his way to besting Randy but at the end missed a Pizza piece and a 2" circle to let Randy earn the win. Was a nail biter watching both of them shoot. A couple other competitors also earned a place on the shoot shack ceilig by hitting the 197 yard rack 10" down to 1" in 10 shots with no misses. Good Job Dustin Kettlewell and Jeff Clark. Free entries for next month go to Randy Wise in A class, Dave Callipare in B class and Cuda Gatten in C class.

On to the Scores: All ties decided by reverse count. Max possible points 92 with all bonuses.

Firearms WTS: RADIAN MODEL 1 6ARC BUILD - UPDATE 11/20

I got the itch to build a 6 arc gasser, but now that I have it completed, I've lost interest in it. Shouldn't have built it to begin with. I like my 556 gas guns, if Im gonna play around with other cartridges, I just assume build a bolt gun I guess. Build has 0 rounds on it except the LAW folder, it was on a MK18 pistol before and saw about 200 rounds of 556.

Here's the build list and what I have into it with pictures of how I had planned to use it. Decided I dont need another cartridge I have to stock up on ammo for. The optics, mount, iron sights, and bipod are not included. Other than that, selling it as pictured with the LAW folder and the B5 stock. I was going to strip those 2 parts off for something else, but that is on the back burner now, so I'm including them in the sale.

Save On Riflescopes

We recognize that supply of product is going to start to get wanky. Most brands will be holding off on bringing in product until the tariff negotiations get finalized. Some brands are jumping the gun, so to speak, and are raising prices now. These situations will most likely create 2 things......A lack of available product, for an unknown amount of time, and higher prices. We want to do what we can to bring you the Riflescopes you want at great pricing.

As always, we suggest that you call us, 516-217-1000, so we can work personally with you on the optic you're interested in. We have a nice supply of scopes in stock and want to work with you to get you the scope you want at a price you'll love.

A few examples of fantastic opportunities are:

Steiner Predator & T6Xi Riflescopes

All Konus Riflescopes are on sale

We have the 3 different Athlon Cronus BTR GEN2 4.5-29x56 UHD Riflescopes on sale for $1,299.99

We have brought in some of the most popular Hawke Riflescopes and are offering them at exceptional pricing.....
Your choice, only $699.99, for either Hawke Frontier 30 SF 2.5-15x50 - Mil Pro or Hawke Frontier 30 SF 4-24x50 - Mil Pro
2 other great opportunities right now are:
Hawke Endurance 30 WA 1.5-6x44 - L4A Dot Illuminated for only $299.99
Hawke Endurance 30 WA 1-4x24 - L4A Dot Illuminated for only $349.99

We have brought in a large shipment of the very popular DNT Nightvision and Thermal Optics as well as The One - 7-35x56 Riflescope. DNT is running low on supply and they're not sure when their next delivery will arrive.

GPO is also holding off on bringing in more inventory for the time being. We have a nice supply of their Optics and have a big shipment of their GPO Centuri Riflescopes on the way in.

Sightron is in a unique situation for a few reasons. As you may, or may not know, Sightron is owned by Kenko. The reason this is interesting is that Kenko is the largest manufacturer of riflescopes in the Philippines as well as a main manufacturer in Japan. They are one of the only Pacific Rim riflescope companies that do not have any scopes in their offerings that are made in China. This fact keeps Sightron out of the issue of waiting for the China tariff issues to be resolved. Not only do they have great scopes but they are running a Spring Sale through the end of April.

Before all this tariff uncertainty began Zeiss put some of their V4 & V6 riflescopes on sale through April 30th.

We received many tracking #'s yesterday from Arken. We will be able to fill your backorders as well as have inventory available for new orders.

TriggerTech C Clip Size?? Anyone

Before you ask, I have already attempted to contact Trigger Tech twice to ask this question. I've not been able to find a schematic online that shows the answer either. My question refers to the rod that appears to hold the trigger shoe in the housing of a TT trigger. I took my rifle a part yesterday and noticed the small C clip that snaps onto the left side of rod with the notch in it is missing. This is the same rod that would hold the part to convert the trigger into a bottom bolt release as well. The C clip is what keeps the rod from falling out of the trigger. Hope that is explanation enough to know what I'm referring to. I'm needing to know the size of this clip so I can attempt to source one locally. 100% know a Trigger Tech CS rep can tell me, but two phone calls and emails later, I've still not received a response. Any information is appreciated. Thanks
