Firearms WTS : Semi Custom Rifle Shorty 6.5 CR w/ new tube

WTS: Had this rifle recently re-barreled by the great guys over at Phoenix Custom Rifles. My intention was to build a medium weight shorter barreled rifle in a folding lighter weight chassis that wasn't a pig to carry or hunt with, but would also be capable of putting some rounds thru before the barrel started walking. While waiting on the barrel to be spun up I ran across a killer deal locally on a similar rifle that kind of fills the same roll for me so I never got around to shooting this. The new barrel has ZERO rounds thru it. Would make someone a nice suppressed hunter/truck gun/ etc for not much more than the cost of just a quality barrel replacement. I'd just keep it but I"m trying to cut down on the number of rifles I have in the same calibers and would like to put funds toward a thermal. Donor was a Christensen Arms Mesa rifle. Two lug 700 Short Clone action with side bolt release, fluted bolt, m16 style extractor. I also installed a larger aftermarket bolt knob but will include the stock one as well. Rifle has the factory Trigger Tech Trigger, picatinny rail, and the MESA carbon stock w/ factory hinged floor plate and has been opened up slightly for the thicker barrel. Factory stock is bedded on the recoil lug only. The original barrel, which shot quite well, will be included and could be reinstalled at some point as the action was not altered in any way. The barrel shot great for what it is (Held MOA @ 100 w/ factory ammo) but wasn't heavy enough IMO for running a suppressor because they are a very light sporter contour and threaded 1/2-28. Factory barrel probably has less than 100 rds on it. Specs on the new barrel are as follows:

*BRUX Cut rifle barrel #5 Contour, 1:8 Twist, Finished @ 18"
*Chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor
*5/8x24 Class 3 muzzle threads for suppressor use
*Graphite Black Cerakote to match action

$1150 shipped for complete rifle from my FFL to Your FFL in the lower 48. USPS Money order preferred but could also probably work something else out. Bipods not included. PLEASE PM ME DIRECTLY IF INTERESTED. DO NOT POST HERE "I'LL TAKE IT", that pretty much guarantees an invite to be spammed. Please PM me directly and I will respond to that.

TRADE INTEREST: MAVEN RS 1.2 scope in MILS, Maybe Steiner 2-12, Quality set of 8x42 binoculars (razors, Maven, Swarovski, etc), 7.5 TW 6MM medium to heavy sporter blank, CZ 457 17 HMR barrel, new 7 PRC Brass, Manners LA Mini Chassis CIP Length, possibly other rifles but can't say I have anything particular in mind. I know I don't need anymore 308s or 6.5 CR, & 7 or 300 PRCs

WILL ONLY TRADE WITH MEMBERS WITH GOOD SH FEEDBACK

SOLD WTS: Elite Tactical XRS3 6-36 G5i (newest model)-$1100

I am selling my lightly used Elite Tactical XRS3 6-36 with new G5i illuminated reticle. Asking $1100 shipped UPS PPFF. I used it for 2 PRS matches while I waited for my ATACR to come in. Honesty, if I did not get such a good deal on the ATACR (used a 40% cert) I would keep this one. There are some minor scope rings but no scratches or any other blemishes. Glass is surprisingly good. I will throw in a dry fire solutions turret tape I have not used yet. Will come with original box and sunshade as well. See pics for details.

I also have a brand new Badger 34mm C1 Max mount I can though in for cheap if interested.

Head position

So I was watching videos today, of Olympic shooting and of long-range centerfire competitions, and I noticed that in the prone, the head position was markedly different between shooters in the two sports: The Olympians hold their heads vertical -- ears level, with the comb just pressed against the side of their face -- while the centerfire guys generally have their heads tilted, sometimes as much as 30 degrees or more, and are basically resting their head on the comb.

I've done way more pistol shooting than rifle shooting, and of course my head is level when I'm shooting a pistol. But I do tilt my head on my rifle a little in order to get my eye comfortably behind the scope. I just tried some pistol dry-fire with my head cocked to the side and it felt awful -- maybe I could get used to it, but I certainly can't see it making me a better shot.

So why do the long-range competitors not hold their heads level?

I've got some ideas, some of which may be stupid, which is why I'm posting in this subforum:
  • Maybe the sports are so different that it's inappropriate to compare techniques between them in the first place: Long-range shooters get bags and bipods, recoil management is a huge part of their game, etc. Maybe head position makes a big difference for one sport but falls into the noise for the other.
  • Working snipers need to stay on the scope for long periods of time, so maybe they get used to -- and then train others to employ -- positions that let them relax their neck muscles by actually resting on the stock.
  • The Olympic rifles are obviously more adjustable; maybe the long-range guys would also have their ears level if only their combs were laterally adjustable.
  • Maybe head position doesn't actually make any difference when shooting prone, and the Olympians' ears are only level because that's how they've always done it -- or because it does make a difference when they're standing, and they want to have consistent form.
Are any of those ideas close to the truth?

Why does the Accuracy International AXSR in 300 Norma Mag cost twice what the Barrett MRAD in 300 Norma Mag

I was about to order a Barrett MRAD in 300 Norna Mag. today when my FFL dealer who also owns one asked if I was familar with the news circulating around about current MRAD's having unintentional discharges. Some asked if it involves the purchase of Barret by NIOA Group.

Anyone have insights.

Remington 700 adl .223 Rem barrel twist

Dear All,

I just bought a Remington 700 ADL varmint in caliber .223 Remington.

From the engraved marks I understood it was built in 2016. The serial number starts with "RR".

Do you know the expected barrel twist? Is It 1:12 or 1:9?

I know other conversations concerning this topics have been already opened, but I could not conclude anything for my Remington.

Thank you in advance for your kind availability.

Yours faithfully.
