A bad day at the range with the Hensoldt Zeiss Spotter 60

So I love my Spotter 60...that is I did. The other day at the range, we had it mounted to a RRS tripod with a 30 lbs pack hanging from the tripod. Somehow the wind still blew it over and broke the case :(

Hensoldt wants me to send it to them (at my expense-Germany ITAR controlled product). If it can be fixed, I am looking at a minimum of $2150 to get it fixed. If I decide I don't want it fixed, I will still owe them $560 plus the cost of shipping it over. I must say I am regretting my purchase just a bit lol.

The Vortex warranty is looking better even if the glass is not on par lol.

Firearms FS: Custom Geissele 18" Cut SPR / SOLGW Broadsword Build.

Up for sale is a High End SPR Build I put together to review Geissele's new Cut Rifled Barrels.

I spared no expense on this custom build, every part has been carefully selected and tuned to perfection.

Every detail related to this build is listed in the below link.

https://www.snipershide.com/shootin...rt-4-load-development-28may25-update.7250369/

I would like to address post #61( load development.) You'll notice that many of my Sub Half MOA groups had random ass flyers, well I had a DUH!! moment and forgot to reinstall the neck bushing in my die....Oops

After it had dawned on me why I was having flyers I shot a quick 5x5 in post #70 to confirm.

Every detail and shot fired has been recorded in the thread, all the tedious and painstaking work is already done for it next owner.

I personally guarantee this Custom SPR to not only be one of the finest rifles you'll operate but to function 100% reliable, Suppressed and Unsuppressed and maintain Sub Half MOA with Black Hills 77gr OTM, MK262, and my Ramshot Tac Handloads of 23.8, 24.3 or 24.5

The rifle could easily pass as new, still in outstanding condition. Scope, Bipod and Muzzle device NOT included. If you're Suppressor is set up for Xeno I'll include the Muzzle Device.

For those who don't know, my wife has been battling Stage Four Brain Cancer for close to three years now and kicking it's ass!.

She is seriously the strongest woman I've ever known, serving our country for over 20 years and retiring as a Navy Senior Chief.

My wife has had 3 Glioblastoma removed and a fourth has returned that is inoperable, placing her on Hospice care.

Not sure what to expect at this point, so I'll be stepping back from conducting any new reviews or Custom builds. I have one last build to complete for @BurtG , his will be the last until further notice.

The ONLY reason Im explaining this to the Hide Community is because I know many of you would be wondering why in the hell I'm willing to let some of my most coveted high-end builds go.

It's not as money thing at all, just going on a shooting hiatus and hopefully somebody can enjoy these rifles as much as I did, I can always build more down the road.

If this one moves on I'll be listing a few more Custom builds from my stable that are just collecting dust or ones the I have several of.

Firearms Remington 700 SPS Tactical, C Prefix, 20” .308, B&C stock

I picked up this .308 locally on impulse.
Letting it go because I have a ton of .308’s, and I’m pretty much sticking with Origin actions now.

99% sure this is an SPS tactical. Barrel is threaded, measures 0.900” at the muzzle, and is 20” long.
Don’t have any history on it. Action runs pretty smooth, but can’t tell if it’s been trued or not. It appears the barrel has been off before, because the lettering on it is clocked to the bottom and can’t be read unless the BA is removed from the stock. It is a factory Remington barrel. Don’t have any target pictures, but it shoots decent.

Trigger appears to be factory, but I think it has been slicked up. Single stage breaks at an estimated 2-2.5 pounds.

Stock info here:
It does have an Anschutz rail.

Stock has been bedded.
Unsure what the coating is on the BA. Has some wear on it in usual spots.

Pictures pretty much tell the story.

Not sure what it’s actually worth, but let’s go with $800 OBO shipped. FFL must accept from an individual.
PM me first, I will not PM you. Anybody else messaging you about it is a scammer.

Spotters Thoughts on Athlon Ares G2 vs Vortex Viper HD?

I'm in the market for a new spotting scope to be used for target shooting out to 300 yds or so. ( That's the longest distance I have locally). I currently have a 20 year old Miopta 65MM angled spotting scope that is decent enough but very fidgety to adjust. I'm thinking it's time to add another to my quiver. Likely a full sized 20-60x85 in an angled eyepiece. My budget is $800 +/- and I think I've narrowed it down to these two models. ( I own multiples of both Athlon and Vortex scopes and have been happy with performance, quality and bang for the buck on both brands.) So has anyone compared these two mid priced scopes? Thoughts on glass? Deals to be had on either? I'm interested in all experience out there.

Firearms Origin Barreled Action 6Arc w/spare .308 bolt head. (SOLD)

I’m unable to shootto for the foreseeable future since my wife now requires full time care due to early onset Alzheimer’s.
Because of this, I’m paring down some guns, projects and parts from the safe and gun bench. I’ll list these separately.

1. Origin Short Action with 6Arc bolt and 25.5” Douglas 6Arc Barrel, and Triggertech Primary. Includes new .308 bolt head and Action Wrench. Action has less than 30 rounds. Barrel was purchased for this project from a Hide member and has less than 130 rounds. He was seeing under .5moa with it and I saw the same with my first load. Barrel is 1.2” at the action and 1” at the muzzle. I can include the load he was using for the best groups. Trigger has around 1000 rounds on it and is clean and crispy. There is a small ding on the bolt knob just for transparency.
I’m listing this as a set for a while before I think about breaking it up.
$1200 firm plus calculated shipping and as much insurance as you care to add. To your FFL
PayPal or Venmo is fine.

6mm ARC brass deformed

All,

I've just built 6mm ARC upper with 18" Shaw barrel and Sons of Liberty Gun Works SOLGW 6.5 Grendel/6mm ARC Bolt Carrier Group and an adjustable gas block. I adjusted gas down to get reliable ejection and empty mag lockup, ejection is going at around 4 o'clock. The rifle shoots sub-MOA 5 round groups on 100 yards with Hornady Black 105gn and just over 1MOA with Hornady Match 108gn. This is all good.
Now what concerns me is that I get ejector marks on most of the casings (see pics), there is lot of brass residue on the bolt face, and the throat on about half of the brass that has throat flat on one side. I understand that sharp edges on the bolt extractor and ejector could be causing marks on the brass and brass residue on the bolt. What could be causing flat throat on the brass?

Also, velocity is about 2520fps for Hornady Black 105gn and about 2480fps for Hornady Match 108gn, I have only about 80 rounds through this barrel so it may speed up little but. I was expecting little bit more velocity from 18" barrel.

Thank you for your help!
Dan

Defiance Action Pre-fit / Tenon Compatibility

Hi Guys, I would like to know, if my 6.5 SAUM chambered barrel, that was spun up and fitted to my Defiance Deviant Long Action originally, will fit on my Defiance Ruckus XM (old medium) Action?

In other words, are the tenons the same between those two, and if screwed on, would the headspace be the same or similar with the bolt close between the medium and the long action?

Is my understanding of the two actions correct that the length difference only really needs to be applicable when the bolt is cycled all the way back, to cycle longer cartridges, but as the chambers are in the barrels, technically when the bolt it closed they should / could be the same length from the shoulder of the chamber?

I am wasting a lot of space with the 6.5 SAUM on the Long Action, and it would be perfect for the Medium Action, which will then free up my Long Action to build a more suitable true long action cartridge rifle with it. This would help me not to have to maybe get 2 whole new barrels, or lose 1-2 inches of length on the 6.5 SAUM barrel to have it re-chambered with a new tenon cut in.

P.S. Yes I know Defiance does not send out tenon print or publish them, and I know they historically had a strong stance against it, but that we before their new guaranteed headspace actions, and with all the pre-fits on the market nowadays, I hoped this can be discussed again without backlash.

According to this page of the Kelbly Atlas, their tenon is the same between the long and the short action: Atlas
