AB Elite devices are not synchronizing

I have the following devices and would like some help figuring out the best connectivity topology to integrate them all and push the real-time target card to my Tactix 8 watch.

- Garmin Tactix 8 with Applied Ballistics (Elite license)
- Kestrel 5700X Elite (AB Elite license)
- Sig Kilo5X rangefinder (BDX-X, BDX-U) Says Ultralight for the device but no upgrade path I can see.
- Garmin Cero X1 chrono
- iPhone 16 with AB Quantum, Garmin Connect, Kestrel Link, and Garmin Shotview.

Latest firmware installed where needed.

So,
I’d like to be able to laze a target with the Kilo5X and use the Kestrel for my Environment variables (wind, temp, barometer etc) and use the chrono for real-time muzzle velocity data. I’d then like to either use Kestrel or AB Quantum on my phone as the solver and push the firing solution to my AB enabled Tactix 8 watch.

I’ve been able to pair and see the Kestrel, the Tactix 8 watch, and the Kilo5x in AB Quantum on my phone, but AB only allows one device at a time to be active/connected.

This has been the primary source of my frustration but on top of that the results on my watch do not appear to mirror what is in the AB Quantum on my phone, even though I do see the profile is being sync’s on my watch.

The elevation on my watch is off by a few .mils or more and the range never updates, as well as the direction. It appears to be working but not really working. Basically my watch is showing results that conflict with the firing solution in my phone, so the watch results can’t be trusted, thus worthless.

Am I missing something obvious in my AB configuration that allows for live updates?

Is there a better workflow for the device connectivity?

Should I be using another app to join all of these devices in a shared network? Or is there a daisy chain topology that would be better suited? Just really surprised AB only allows the single device at a time thing.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks in advance

V/r,

22-250 Barrel Chop. Length vs noise/muzzle flip?

So, I've got a 700VS in 22-250 that's been sitting in my safe for over a decade. It was my first centerfire that I got when I was 17 (2006). I never shot it as much as I anticipated due to not having many places to groundhog hunt. Has maybe 200 rounds through it. Anyways, I've decided to bring it back out and I want to turn it into a lightweight walking varmint rig for 400yds and in. I need to get it threaded for my suppressor and figured I may as well chop it in the process. From what I've read, the 250 is still pretty quick even as short as 18" (~3500fps / 50gr).

My question is, will it be significantly louder suppressed at 16-18" compared to 20-22"? Also, will there be a significant increase in muzzle flip? Trying to find the sweet spot, but haven't found much data on it aside from velocity test. It's a 1/14 twist, so I'm limited to the lighter bullets unfortunately. It hates anything above 50gr.

Rainier Ultramatch Mod2 .223

Really leaning towards buying a 20” ultramatch for a new precision AR15 build seeing as they are in stock and $400 seems lIke an ok price if they live up to higher end performance. I’m looking for 2 things:

1. Does anybody feel strongly about recommending something else for similar price?

2. Does anybody have a discount code for Rainier? I see their were a bunch of 10% off codes in the past but haven’t found an active one.

Thanks

First KRG Bravo

I was planning on ordering from Mcmillan but the 8 month wait was a no-go for me.

So, I ordered my first KRG Bravo lefty. I was suprised to discover that the thumb screw for the cheek riser is not flipped to the left side. It forces the user to go at least 1.25"to prevent the thumb screw from stabbing your face. It seems kinda silly for them not to move it.

I also had to add a relief cut to the picatinney rail in the front as the covered forend would not fit under it.

Lasty, I had to relief cut the inside of the trigger well so that the safety would not rub. All in all nothing hard and explains why they are so much less expensive. I have yet to shoot with it since I am awaiting a couple more pieces.

338 Norma Loads
10/20/2014 Last edited 10/21/2014 by midgetorama

I am shooting a 9.5 twist Bartlein that finishes at 26".

With a 300 grain SMK I am getting slight ejector marks with 85.0 grains of IMR 7828 SSC and a CCI250 with Norma brass. Velocity is only 2715 fps.

The best accuracy with this bullet, powder, primer combo is 82.5 grains at 2632 fps. Single digit ES.

I am seating the bullet with a 0.025" jump.

I was expecting better velocity. I may try Retumbo eventually.

I have a good buddy that is using us869 in his 300rum pushing 230s. Ive thought about it, but what he is running into is a lot of carbon buildup, carbon ring.

If a guy is looking for a powder, definitely give rl33 a shot. Ive ran some of it and it gives excellent velocities.

Here is some info on rl33.
97.7grns rl33
300grn berger otm.
215mag
2863fps 26" barrel
3.725" coal - single load.
Es 14.22
Sd 7.00
This gave me a 0.103" center to center group at 100yds.

I did a quick velocity check prior to loading for groups.
1. 95.0grn-2738fps
2. 96.0grn-2788
3. 97.0grn-2732 - velocity dip.
4. 98.0grn-2861
5. 99.0grn-2899 - hard bolt lift

I shot these 5 rounds at 300yds and the resulting group was 2".

It'll fit...

I know it seems like a lot, but the density of the RL33 is higher then say H1000 where you'd have a hell of a time with 90grns.

I've got some data for you on the US869.
90.0 - 101.3grns US869
300grn bullet

89.0 gr of H-1000 with 300gr Berger OTM

3.602 Cartridge Length ... I'm a couple thousandths off the lands.

Averaging close to 2800 fps from 27" bbl.

5-shot groups were 1.125 @ 200 yards.

I managed one 3-shot group at 200y for 0.625" NOT sure I could reproduce it.

I'd strongly recommend Berger boolits across the board. My 6.5 CM loves them too. Super high ballistic coefficient on both calibers.

My Retumbo tests for 338NM were averaging 2715 fps.

Close to 2900 fps from a 338 Norma out of a 26" barrel?

How is brass life?

I`m building a 338 Norma with a 30" Pacnor 1-9 twist barrel and hoping for 2850 fps with good brass life.

brass life seems to be good. I'm not running a lot of the rl33. my main load is h1000 which i have previously listed on this page. but with RL33 a guy can get up there in velocity. Just giving the guys some insight. My numbers will vary from others.

Just saw this. Thanks. Life got in the way and I haven't messed with this in ages. Hopefully this weekend.

The highest I went was 99 grains and if I remember correctly I was in the mid 2700s. This was with a Berger 300 out of a 26" barrel. I'll post more after this weekend hopefully.> I've got some data for you on the US869.
90.0 - 101.3grns US869
300grn bullet
@100.0grns = 2710fps

Now this is not my data so start low and work up. Same as usual.

Bartlein 30" 9:5 twist suppressed
89.0gr H1000 fed 215 Berger 300 otm coal 3.675"
2825fps sd 9
Barrel only has 72 rounds on it. Might see some increase in speed with some more rounds down the tube. We'll see.

Settled on 89gr of H1000 pushing a 300gr Berger. Shot it on a ridiculously hot day...occasional ejector swipe, primers look good, no sticky bolt. At 1071 yards it hits steel with authority.

15k off the lands
AVG 2809FPS, SD of 4.3, ES of 9

Also will note that for my barrel the POI is the same for both 88gr and 89gr of H1000.

Not yet but it's definitely on the to do list...the 255 flatliners definitely have my attention for the Norma.

Actor Michael Madsen Dead at 67

Rest in peace, tough guy. Condolences to his family and friends.

Quentin Tarantino's favorite character actor Michael Madsen is dead from cardiac arrest at the age of 67. In heaven or hell, he'll be partying with his buddy Tom Sizemore.
