Ti - QD taper mount w/Ti brake

So, just wanted to show the new Titanium QD set up I am trying out. I got 3 sets. SD Tactical is where I got em.

Pretty cool and machined really nice. The brake is a lot like a Ti cherry bomb, and the taper mount fits really well and is also very nicely machined. You can get whatever colors in either.

New guy from CA

I’m Josh. 58. Life long shooter. Retired, traveling in a motor home, shooting a lot.

Learned of NRL Hunter last spring and had to try it. Equipment selection was rushed. Research was minimal. Didn’t know what I didn’t know. Made it happen anyway. Been learning ever since and look forward to trying again soon.

Gun store had a Remington 700 .308 on sale. Picked it up a couple days before hitting the road on a 4 month trip to wherever. Shot it once. Visited a friend in Bishop. Couldn’t hit squat. Couldn’t easily find parts to convert to external magazine. Ordered a pos magpul hunter on Amazon, then hit the road toward Price, stopping at cableas fora trigger tech, a couple mags and some ammo. No 168 gn federal, so went with 175.

Spent two days in price working on my dope to 1000. First time shooting past 200. No chrono. Used ballistic data from the ammo box and got surprisingly close, but struggled past 600 yards. Recoil management was a foreign concept at that point and of course couldn’t see my misses.

Match day. Zero confidence in the rifle. First stage. Couldn’t find the targets. Bad deal. I was in over my head. Was still able to hit most of the targets I found, which was fun. RM helped me find and hit the 800 yard target. The rifle seemed to group well at that distance and elevation was right, so that’s progress.

Thought the community was super friendly and helpful. Aaron Martin was on the squad before me and offered great tips, and and snacks. Didn’t realize until hearing him on the MDS podcast weeks later that he’s kind of a big deal. Cool guy.

Have shot quite a bit since then. The rifle doesn’t group. It’s fine because the plan was to upgrade one piece at a time. Oryx is arriving tomorrow. Pretty much set on a 6.5 cm Criterion. That and an adequate backpack should get me there.

See ya at the range

Who uses BLC2 successfully

Hello all,

As the title states, who's using this stuff with success? I have a pound that I never opened and don't know what to do with it. I shoot the following:

6.5 grendel
.223
.308
6.5 creedmoor

I know it works on all the mentioned but the creedmoor. I've heard and read it's really dirty though, and most don't like it.

Is anyone shooting it and liking it? If so, what are you shooting it in? I shoot suppressed by the way.

Thanks,

Serg

SOLD Sig KILO10K-ABS HD 10X42MM

Hi,

I have a pair of lightly used Kilo10k (Gen 1) binoculars for sale. They have no optical blemishes, and are upgraded to the latest firmware. I have all of the original material, and in fact the case and wind meter are completely unused (long story, but I have two sets of these).

The only blemish on the binoculars is a slight indentation where I had the RRS strap mount attached, which I have photographed. Otherwise they are completely in mint condition. I'm including an unused battery, as well. The wind meter hasn't even had the battery strip removed, and has never been used as noted above.

I'm asking $1100 shipped and insured to anywhere in the continental USA. I'm attaching many photos, including some of the packaging, so you know they will be well protected.

The through-the-binocular picture is just to show the reticle is fully functional, it was challenging even taking the photo with my camera, so apologies for the poor quality. The lenses are in perfect condition.

M1917 vs M1903

I've always wondered why the '03 seems to have been so much more popular for use as a match rifle than the 1917(during their heyday: 1910's - 1950's or thereabouts when the Garands and M14's completely took over High Power - Service Rifle, and Model 70's/40X's/etc completely took over High Power - Match Rifle, 3x600, prone, long range prone, etc)?

Is the '03 simply a more inherently accurate rifle(IMO a valid question, because the '03 receiver was WIDELY used in the Mann Device for ammo accuracy testing and whatnot for like 100+ years)? Or was it a case of the '03 simply having sights more conducive to competition/precision in general/etc? Or...??

There were FAR more 1917's produced vs '03s during WW1(along with commercial variants eg: Remington Model 30 & Winchester Model 51 Imperial). And they consequently played a far bigger role in the US war effort than the '03 did, in the 1st world war...esp. if you count the P14.

I ain't aware of any commercial '03 variants(aside from the M1922 and the DCM Sporter if ya wanna count them?)?

TL;dr/summary: why no 1917 National Match Rifles? Why so few custom 1917 target rifles?
(Yes I'm aware of Comfort's winning the '35 Wimbledon Cup w/ a custom .300 H&H 1917 {{and @sirhrmechanic 's amazingly beautiful clone/recreation of said rifle, or was that you, @buffalowinter ?}}.

Regardless - my point/question still stands; the '03 dominated the Nat'l Matches up until the Garand NM and Don McCoy's match conditioned Garands were born.. and the 1917 was perceptively very rarely used in comparison. Why is that?

Thanks in advance gentlemen.
God bless & best regards!

Reloading for shorter barrels?

Never really messed with shorter barrels before but starting to. (16" 6.5cm)

Initially not impressed with accuracy using ammo I loaded for my 26" 6.5CM.

I know it will be was down on Velocity (getting about 2550 instead of the 2800+ I was getting).

I got wondering about how much velocity you really need to stabilize 123gr and 140 gr.
I know I won't be able to get the velocities I achieved before without being way over pressure.

Curious how diff people's loads are for shorter barrels vs longer and effect on accuracy?

Loads for Sig 716 DMR

I have a Gen1 716 DMR & was shooting loads developed for my bolt. The load I was shooting was a 178 Hornady BTHP over 43.0 gr. of Varget. I noticed that there are slight ejector marks on primer - not severe, but definitely there & odd they are not present when shot out of my bolt gun. The primer was flat but no severe overpressure signs. Also, noticed a slight dent & two mark from ejection on the case mouth where the case hit the barrel extension lugs. Not bad but definitely dented.

This load shoots great in my bolt & DMR. I am getting groups less than 1 moa & a lot of that is me (I don't shoot a piston AR 308 as well as a bolt & was using a 1X-6X scope which makes shooting tight groups challenging as well). I will reduce the load to 42.5 gr. & not even bother with load development. Hopefully this will shoot OK. If not will just keep tweaking the load until I get something I like.

Objective for this rifle is a to reliably engage PRS type targets out to 600 yards. My range has targets that range from 2 minutes down to 0.5 at 600 yards.

Been shooting my bolt gun at this range, but time to have some fun w/ the DMR!

Hornady Lot to lot. 200fps difference?

Anyone know what BA after the Hornady UPC means? Assuming it’s GAP
Had an interesting day shooting today.
I’ve been breaking in my 6GT with factory H109 ammo.
In the past was only getting about 2780fps from them.
Was hoping the barrel would speed up quite a bit, but the rounds are stupid accurate.

Fast forward to today. Grabbed a couple boxes from my stash and went shooting.
Garmin immediately read 2960 for 20rnds
Looked at the box and saw GA after the UPC#
Compared old box to current box. Primers in the fast loads are gold/copper and barely have primer marks on them.

Here’s some pics for reference.
Any help to solve the mystery would help. Thanks Hide.

The Gay Tiger is tempting me from shooting straight with 6BR.

I have an MPA PMR rifle in 6BR that is almost ready. At the last minute, I asked if it is possible to change to 6GT. Lisa at MPA says most likely. I plan on using the rifle to shoot some PRS, a bit of ELR, and to apply general principles of firearm fun-time to the human/gun partnership. I do reload. Should I stick with 6BR? Or should I explore my more flamboyant side by experimenting with this new-fangled 6GT hotness?

And/or are these Gay Tiger jokes getting old and everyone should go back to picking on the 6.5CM?

Anyway, my primary reason for the last minute reconsideration of cartridge orientation is that the 6GT may offer better reliability in terms of feeding. On top of that, it may offer a bit more versatility in that I can load it mildly to perform similar to 6BR but light it up hotter for extended distance.

However my reconsideration of the reconsideration is based on some reports that the reliability claims of 6GT are not what they were originally cracked up to be while the 6BR is enjoying newfound reliability with the latest magazine developments, to the extent that reliability is no longer a relevant issue.

In addition, as a relatively inexperienced reloader, am I giving up some magical ease of reloading the 6BR versus what may turn out to be a relatively finicky 6GT.

And as a member of the poors, am I going to miss out on the efficiency of the 6BR, foregoing meals in order to feed a more powder-hungry 6GT.

Or am I just overthinking all this, being better off flipping a coin or just going with my original work order so as not to inconvenience Lisa, Woody, and the rest of the good folks at MPA with last minute hems and haws.

Would appreciate any and all advice from those who have more experience, knowledge, and wisdom than I.

Now don't hit me ...but I was also thinking of changing my order from the Matrix Pro II chassis to the Vanquish. Advice? Reprimands?

Badger-style Harris bipod mod?

I'm curious if any DIY'ers in here have pulled apart their Harris legs in order to rotate and/or re-tap the leg-release buttons to face inboard rather than forward. I like my Harris setups but it is annoying when the feet deploy while using any sort of barricade with the legs down. From what I understand, Badger has them made exclusively from Harris with this mod rather than modifying existing models.

I'm just wondering if anyone has actually pulled apart the legs and done this themselves.
