First True light Gunsmithing Bench

Ive always wanted to dable in some light Gunsmithing. Nothing to crazy just dropping barreled actions into different stocks or Chassis like MDT makes. Wanted to do this for a long time but was too nervous to take the plunge. I would also like to be able to change barrels out as well. Not to turn my own barrels but prefits that i could go from 308 to 6.5 etc... So, I'm having a bench put together from some leftover wood. I'm having it over built for strength my question is what vices or tools do I need to get started headed down this road. I've seen some Real Avit gun vices that look nice but I think that those would only help in dropping barreled actions into MDT stocks. So I know I would need a barrel vice and extra tools. Sorry that was alot but I've got many questions and just need some good guidance. I don't need the best tools just tools that will last and serve me well. Again mostly stock changes and barrel changes are what I'm looking to do. I have a tipton gun vice I use for cleaning but if there is a better one out there for that please let be know. I have the best gun vice but the Tipton ultimate is pretty damn tempting. Thanks for any and all help!!

Accessories Terminus Zeus QC 308 prefit and ammo

I’ve got a preferred barrels prefit for a terminus Zeus QC action. 22” 1:9 twist 5R. About 800-900 rounds down it. Nothing wrong with it I just don’t ever shoot it. $450

Also have quite a bit of 308 ammo to go with it. Hornady black, federal GMM, fiocchi match with smk, etc. I’d assume around 350-500 rounds maybe? I can get a total if interested in all of it in a package deal.

Precision shooting questions

So I've shot jaycee/4-h bb gun as a kid and hunted now for 40 years. 4-5 years ago i had my first custom hunting gun built which led to load development at 500 yd and then stretching it's legs to 1k just to say I did it. In the last 3 years ive attended an annual fun day at a ranch shooting to 1200 yds with some pretty good local hunters/600 yd competitors.
I've got swarovski z5s with customs 2 revolution Moa turrets on my hunting rigs and use an old gunwerks br2 for ranging and comeups. Last year I bought an x5 5-25 for an old custom bench 22-250 I've had since the 90s but have not done any reloading for it. Just shooting hornady 55 vmax and it shoots marbles at 100yd and have taken it out to 1k but beyond 800 it's falling off compared to my 6cm and 7mm blaser hunters.

Recently I bought a used kestrel 5700 elite link and garmin xero and have access to a shot marker and 1k range at neighbors place.

Today I got my butt whooped shooting in the wind (25-35 mph and targets 400-1200yards spaning 45 degrees direction of fire with quartering tailwinds). Z5s don't really dial much wind or have a reticle to hold much offset. My x5 does but slow twist 22-250 not the greatest bc.

Everyone there seems to only use the kestrel very simply and minimally and differently.

Any advice on what I need to learn about long range precision shooting outside of hunting? Where should I start? I feel like I'm jumping in somewhere in the middle but I missed some basic stuff or there is dozens of places to start but I'm not sure what really should be first, if that makes sense?

What reticle/scope should I get if I were to swap out a scope on say my 6cm for long range shoot days?

What's the best way to learn to utilize the kestrel more fully?

If I were to get a new barrel spun up for my old 22-250 in 6 dasher or something more modern for 600/1k type shoots and just leave my hunters as they are? On days 10mph or less they both more than capable of .5 moa to 1k and I'm very confident hunting big game to 6-800 yards in good conditions.

Whatever I do i want to be a better hunter first. At least at this point, "competition" is second and just for fun... but who knows

Thanks

Shady or Not Shady?

If you bought a rifle off the forum, a specific model that has very specific parts, and you didn’t ask if it was a stock rifle, and their ad doesn’t mention if it is stock or not, and the rifle shows up with all the good parts taken off, Would you consider that a shady business deal? For example, if you bought a Seekins Precision PH2 NRL which comes stock with a TriggerTech Diamond trigger, and it shows up and it’s not a Diamond trigger, would you have a problem with it?

Advice needed regarding the value of a Remington 700 5R .308 barreled action.

New here. I’ve read the rules regarding posting an item for sale in the forum. I am not trying to sell it here. I would, if I had the credentials, but I don’t. I’d like to get an idea for what it’s worth so I can put it on gun broker. I bought this off my neighbor ( fire sale) before he moved. I was with him when he purchased the rifle a year prior at our local gun store. I know it was only shot about 100 rounds. Stainless steel 24” barrel chambered in .308, 1:11 twist rate with 5R rifling. When he bought it, he had the muzzle threaded to 5/8-24, bolt knob (the football) removed and threaded a tactical style handle on. It has Nightforce bases and and elite Hunter Timney trigger. I bought it off of him because he needed the cash, I sold the H.S precision stock and the Nightforce scope on eBay, but obviously I can’t sell the barreled action. Am I even able to ship this? Is it worth more if I keep the scope bases and the trigger with it? It I hear a lot of good things about custom actions these days, but not a whole lot about Remington 700 actions except all the bad stuff.

Criterion or Shilen barrel for 7mm PRC

Looking to swap barrels/calipers (7mm rem mag to 7mm prc) and am trying to decide between the 2 barrels. It will be used on a bench/long range rig. I have 2 other Criterion barrels and they shoot great. I've never shot a Shilen so I have no real experience with them. I was just wondering if one is "better" than the other. Also, for the Shilen, does the select match and match "matter" or what the difference is. Besides price.

And 3rd question... if i have a small barrel nut on my 7mm rem mag now, do i need to stick with that or do I need a large barrel nut. Or does that only matter for the barrel and how it's made?
