SOLD (price drop!)16 in Noveske Recon SS barrel w/gas block/headspaced bolt, 50 rnds on it $275

50 rounds down the pipe, moving in a different direction with this build. Barrel performance was impressive. At 100 yards I got 1.25 inch 5-shot groups with IMI 77g and 1.5 inch 5-shot groups with AAC 77g OTM. Shot with a bipod and bag. My shooting is average.

You get 16 inch Noveske Recon stainless steel barrel with headspaced bolt, gas block, gas tube. Gas block pinned/reamed to 1/8th inch to accommodate coil pin for easier assembly/disassembly. The factory included dowel pin is retardedly tight/hard to drive in. If a 1/8th inch coil pin is good enough for Geissele its good enough for me.

There are some scuffs on the barrel where I removed the gas block/its an extremely tight fit and the hole drilled for pinning naturally makes an edge that will scuff the barrel during install/removal of the gas block. This will not effect the performance whatsoever. The headspacing on this bolt/barrel is very tight. It barely chambers my "go" gauge. It will have a long life and lots of consistency.

Barrel is $500 before shipping from Midway. I feel like $275 is plenty fair for a virtually new barrel/bolt with some scuffs on it. Buyer pays shipping from Chattanooga, TN

Thanks for lookin!

Browning X-Bolt Pro Tungsten Barrel Receiver Connection

Hi all. I have been fighting this X-Bolt Pro Tungsten and am getting groups on par with my lever gun with peep sights. I have checked all torques, switched scopes, shot with the Hawg and the radial brake and the gun just isn't behaving properly. I have checked receiver bolts for spec (tightened front first) taken the scope rings off and reinstalled. Often the first couple of shots are OK, but subsequent shots are all over the place. The POI shifts between range sessions (at range sessions I am also shooting a Tikka and a Lupo under identical rest/bag conditions and am 1 moa or better). Browning has mentioned that I could mail it in, but before I do I could switch rings to medium/shoot with no brake/try different ammo brands (using 143 gr precision hunter - hate to buy more ammo when I have literally sent 100's of dollars down range on this gun).

I was inspecting the gun and noticed that where the barrel meets the receiver isn't perfectly aligned. You will see a stock photo that shows perfect alignment where the barrel meets the receiver, and a picture of my gun (where the MP stamp is visible)... My barrel seems to be out of alignment with the receiver by between 1/64" and 1/16".

Would this type of misalignment potentially cause inconsistent groups? TIA, if so, I may as well mail it in and quit trying to fix it.... just kind of bummed I have been fighting this thing and don't trust it enough to hunt with it.

Rifle Scopes Mark 5 Windage dial upgrade

As some of yall already know, the mark 5 Leupold scopes are extremely popular and have been dominating in rifle matches all over the country. The only improvement request I’ve heard is the windage dial is a pain. I decided to make a replacement dial for the scope to help this issue.
The New Competition Wind Dial is also larger and much easier to read.
Wind dials are 85 dollars and available at the link below.

Optics SOLD Price Drop: Like New Vortex PST Gen II 3-15x44 MOA EBR-7C $500+shipping

Like the last few I've sold on here, same story; bought this when the corona took over, realized that my vision isn't what it used to be and now I need more mag. This scope has seen one range trip, then sat in the arms room the last three or so years. For the money this is a great scope. Comes with the original box, all the paperwork/instructions/sunshade, custom deep MKM caps (to prevent the reticle focus ring from turning) and an Anarchy Outdoors throw lever.

No trades. 500 + shipping.

Beginner Could Use Some Advice

I have a nice 6.5 PRC hunting rifle zeroed at 100 yds with a quality long range mil scope. I have a nice range finder. I would like to begin practicing shooting at various longer distances. Other than the initial zeroing, I haven't learned yet how to adjust the turrets for the varying distances my range finder will provide. I assume the modern way of getting this information is using a Kestrel and a ballistics program. I was thinking about buying the Kestrel 5700 Hornady, but I have questions and would love experienced advice.

1. I believe the Kestrel Hornady will replace the need for the Hornady app on my phone, though perhaps you can use both? Is there a reason to use both?
2. I believe the Kestrel Elite has the Applied Ballistics program built in. Does that eliminate the need or desire for an Applied Ballistics phone app?
3. If I bought the Kestrel Elite instead of the Hornady version, would the Elite still connect and transfer data to the Hornady phone app? Would that be a way to have access to both the Applied Ballistics approach on the Kestrel and the Hornady approach on your phone at the same time? Kind of like getting two for one?
4. Is there a clear winner between AB and Hornady, or are they both really good?
5. I also plan to start reloading .223, 300BLK and perhaps 6.5 PRC. When I start shooting my own rifle reloads, would a chronograph be pretty much essential? Should I buy one now when just shooting factory ammo?

Thanks. Any advice is welcome.

Factory 5.56 Hornady 73 ELD M too hot?

About 5 years ago I bought a bunch of Hornady 5.56 73 grain ELD M ammo. It shot under an MOA in the Stag Varminter with the 5.56 chambered 24” 1:8 barrel.
IMG_5728.jpeg

I didn’t see any of the usual pressure signs so I bought a shitload more.

I took it out recently and tested it again with a different rifle with Krieger 1:7 24” barrel, 5.56 chamber.
Screenshot 2024-07-15 at 11.21.59.jpeg

It grouped about the same as before. No flattened or cratered primers.

Is this ammo too hot? Am I prematurely wearing out components?

Rifle Competition Events Production

Please don’t take this as a bashing of MPA, the fine rifles from GAP are just as expensive Both the MPA and the GPA are Really Nice Rifles. I own two and consider them to be the finest rilles I have ever owned including a true custom hunting rifle and an entire bevy of custom XP-100’s. But

Production

Lets face Gentleman, (and Ladies) production is Total JOKE. 3K for the rifle, 2.5K for the scope, at least another thousand for accessories. After tax and shipping and everything else, just about $7000.00. It’s so bad, MPA does not even really promote their custom rifles, since, the “production” rifles offer everything that the custom rifles offer except for a fancy cerekote. (Which for a few extra bucks, you can have). No question, it’s a nice rifle. Available in Matrix, Vanquish or ESR chassis. its a very, very nice rifle.

Solution….Forget Production. Go, One Design. Most popular true production rifle is the Ruger Precision Rifle. Not their custom shop model, just the plain old as you get it from the factory RPR. Choose a caliber. I would bet today’s most popular is the 6.5 Creedmoor. Offer an option of the .308, and that’s it. You can choose one of three models of scopes, all of which must cost less than $1500.00, add a Harris or Magpul bipod. That’s that. Nothing more, nothing changed, And nothing can be added at a later date. (Either by rules or by owner., however, the standard weight and length barrels can be replaced by Ruger as needed).

This

IMG_0838.jpeg

Not this

IMG_1343.jpeg

And especially not as expensive as this. (I really like all of my MPA’s, so, please don’t feel I am picking on them. )
