NV, Thermal or combo

I have an AGM Neith on my 300blk currently. For the money, I love it. I'm in need of an optic for my .308 and was considering going with a thermal, but I'm poor so my budget would be <$2k. I was looking at the AGM Rattler V2 25-384 then I got to thinking about the possibility of just getting another Neith and using the other $1200 towards a thermal monocular for spotting.

I'm relatively new to this. Which option makes more sense for pig hunting?

Gunsmithing Measurements prior to threading / chambering

As requested............

There are several key measurements that need to be taken prior to fitting a rifle barrel to any receiver. Of course, if were talking about a trued Remington, Winchester, Savage etc. these merasurements need to be taken after all receiver work has been completed. Prior to any machine work being performed the barrel blank should be indicated in to .0002" or better. This barrel was indicated in to .0001" TRI.

First, as I see it, the key measurements or information that is needed are as follows;

1. Headspace (include recoil lug with this measurememnt)
2. Tennon diameter
3. Tennon Length
4. Threads per inch (TPI)
5. Bolt face depth from bolt nose rim
6. Bolt lug face's from bolt nose rim (front of lugs)

The headspace on this receiver is actually 1.272". The tennon diameter is 1.0625" x 16 TPI (my signature receiver) The tennon length is determined by the relastionship between the rear of the breech just ahead of the bolt nose recess (outer ring) and the and bolt lug faces. I allow .005" clearence between breech rear and bolt lug faces. When measured, the bolt face and bolt lug faces are the same measurement from the bolt nose rim on my signature receivers. This isnt always the case with other receivers and why this is another measurement you need prior to fitting a barrel.

Getting headspace (1.272")

Getting bolt nose to bolt face and lug faces (.160")
250josm.jpg

OK, at this point I have all I need in order to fit the barrel. I just need to load the barrel in the lathe, face it off and mark my tennon for the first cuts. I set a dial caliper to my headspace measurement of 1.272" at this time and load the barrel. I use the depth measurement portion of the caliper to get enough barrel sticking out but not too much. Sometimes, I scribe a line on the tennon as you ses here. look close.

Here's a better way to mark the tennon length

Now, set tool center and releife. With machine running touch off on the workpeice and zero the dial, turn up Godsmack and away we go.

This might make for an interesting discussion...

Looks like I used a similar thread title previously with regards to who had keys to your house...

Well this one isn't too far from that topic either but thought it might be an interesting chat nevertheless.

The question for the thread is- how much is the going rate for an acre of land where you live. You don't need to share (1) where you live, (2) how much land you own, (3) what you paid when you acquired it. Those might all make for a good conversation but just reckon that while there's a lot of factors that unite the posters here, real estate is wildly fickle.

To start the conversation off- I'll first acknowledge that with the new house I still don't own a full acre of property. I was somewhat strategic in the property that I did purchase in that it borders a mountain in the backyard (see my post about the enjoyment I've had listening to owls for example: https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/im-a-big-fan-of-owls-personally.7231649/ or coyotes: https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/more-excitement-from-my-backyard.7241269/)

But it's a rural development and somewhat new so looking at the lot sizes left for sale here on the mountain I reckon I can answer the question....

An acre of land here would approximately be around $70K. That's an incredible change from 2009 when I was offered either 10 acres of land in GA for $14K or 14 acres of land for $10K (it's one of them but I think the 1st one is right).

How are things in your neck of the woods?

Protecting and serving the shit out of the community.

Self filming multiple crimes while drunk . Come on KY surly you can do better than this .

Warning: the video is real Jerry Springer shit - loud badge monkey and his fat loud mouth wife .

Also funny that county prosecutor said there was no crime in the video- other than drunk driving , assault, trespassing , threats and unlawfully running someone’s name through criminal background checks. WTF.

Night Vision New Pulsar XP60/XG60/XL60 announced

Looks like pulsar announced their new thermals, all with 60mm objectives and 2.5x base mag. Display is upgrade to a round 2560x2560 resolution as well. I feel like the XL60 is somewhat interesting, but lagging in what other manufacturers are offering. Maybe they are waiting until SHOT show to announce a 1280 in a scope.

Athlon Helos With Stiff Illumination Dial

Got myself an Athlon Helos 2-12x42. The illumination dial was so tight out of the box, I thought it was stuck permanently. I can manage to turn it very slowly with both hands if I really try.

Has anyone else had this problem? I'm going to see if I can keep turning it until I loosen up, but it's so stiff, it won't be long before I get blisters.

SOLD Gunville M40 stock

I have a Gunville M40 stock for sale. I scored another M40 stock and no longer need this one. I have sanded on it some as they are pretty rough from Gunville. Stock will require minor inletting for the barrel channel and action. Correct Butt plate has been added and stock has been sanded to match. Several coats of BLO have been applied. It's really close. Looking for $200 shipped. Payment via PP F&F Thanks.

Suppressors Any industry reps willing to discuss helping a state get access to suppressors?

Looking to speak to an industry rep that would be interested in seeing another state become a market for their products.

I have joined a "pro se" court case in Massachusetts pushing back on some recent expansion of gun "laws".

One of our goals is to open Massachusetts to the use of suppressors.

My friend leading the case is going to seek help from Sig Sauer as expert witness to explain to the court suppressors, their function, their benefit, and how they are misunderstood.

We obviously seem like huge underdogs but we are taking advantage of a recent MA SJC ruling that determined the 70 year old law banning switchblades was unconstitutional as switch blades are arms under the second amendment.

Ours will be the first case to use this wedge.

Two other cases, using real lawyers, were dropped by the plaintiffs after having taken huge amounts of money from donors and expending the effort of a 100,000 signature initiative.

I don't think Sig Sauer will be willing to help us. I hope I am wrong in thinking that but their contracts, to include pistols to the MA State Police, has me thinking they will be on the side of the defendants - the Commonwealth - or at minimum - neutral.

Our current governor ran Smith and Wesson out of the state when she was AG, I have no doubt she would trash Sig Sauers contracts and go to Hi Point if Sig acted up.

We are give send go funded and just regular peeps.

Thoughts.

SOLD [WTS] March FX 34mm 1-10x Shorty DR-TR1F Shuriken Lock and Badger mount

I am selling this for a friend. She is the one that sent it in to me to review.

Review - Login to view embedded media
Photos - Below

Model number - D10SV24FDIMLX

Price - Asking for $2450 shipped. Very light salt and comes with the Badger mount, box, documents. Does not include the red dot.

Trades - + cash NF NX8 2.5-20x50 mil-xt, color doesn't matter

To quote her about her thoughts with this scope;

"I want to say I really REALLY like my March FX 34mm 1-10x Shorty--I fucking love it, even. I remember buying this thing to replace my ATACR, and I never looked back...but I'm selling it. I'm getting a 6.5 CM soon and 10x isn't cutting it. I have no use for it now.
I will say that March is one of those "if you know, you know" brands, and a lot of people aren't familiar with them. Here are two very detailed comparison videos to let you form an opinion, each with different stances on this particular optic:"

Please let me know if you have any questions. If I need to submit my own timestamp, please let me know.
