6mm Fat Rat project

Well, here is my next project. The 22 Grendel didn’t shoot up to my expectations. It’s ok, I went out on a limb and ventured into experimental territory. I gave it a whirl, didn’t like the results, so we are trying a new gig. 6 FR from Lee Wells. 24” 8 twist Bartlein. 936 from the gas block on. I got the whole kit, dies etc. The only thing I don’t like, is I requested a threaded muzzle. I’m sure it’s just an oversight on his part. The barrel is pretty heavy, and the FR is not a big cartridge, so I don’t think I’m really worried about it not having a brake on it. My life is crazy right now, and I’ve got to pull the other rifle down for the new build, so it may be a little while, but I expect to give you guys the full story when I get her running. Have fun out there!

Accessories Barrels and stocks for sale or trade. Cheap.

Looking to sell some barrels and stocks from my days at the Remington custom shop and Dakota Arms.

Barrels are all contoured blanks other than the AR barrel.

Stocks are mostly Remington 700, there are a couple model seven stocks on there too.

Open to offers or trades.

AIAT bag rider project

I have been working on a bag rider that is made to fit the AIAT rifle and AIAT chassis. It attaches to the lower butt pad screw and fits very snugly Into a recess of the factory stock.

The prototype is only 3d printed as of now. I may look at having one made from aluminum in the future. Even being printed it is very sturdy. It does not flex at all.

The skins do have to be trimmer quite a bit to attach them. Constructive criticism welcome!

RemArms Sloppy Warranty Repair

Rifle: Remington Arms 700 Police LTR 1:10" .308 Win Bolt Action Rifle 20" Purchased January 2024

Issue: What has been happening is that the trigger assembly pins are very loose in the receiver. I mean, very loose. You could push them out with a toothpick, and they move out of place under fire, and that allows the bolt stop to drop, and the bolt release to become misaligned. At that point the bolt cannot be removed for barrel cleaning, and the action has to be removed from the stock to release the bolt.

My warranty request: I wrote an email asking that rather than an expedient like substituting larger pin sizes, that the receiver itself be brought back to Remington blueprint specification, or the receiver replaced.

RemArms asked me to send the rifle to their depot, an Ahlman's in Morristown MN, and it sat there until Sept when I received postcard notification from Ahlman's "Due to extent of repairs needed on gun, it was necessary to return gun to factory." Finally I called RemArms on 10/31 and demanded an update. They said the rifle was at the factory and I would hear back soon. As it turns out, the rifles was sent back to me on 11/06 from Ahlman's WTF?!

As you see, from the pictures, they staked the pins! My charge against this warranty solution is that now I have an out-of-spec kludged receiver on a new rifle that one will never be able to repair or replace the trigger without having to replace the staking.
Oh! And they didn't return my bolt in the shipping box!!

Question: Do you readers agree with me this makeshift repair is unacceptable as a warranty work? If anyone has suggestions for some sharp verbiage to use on RemArms I'm interested.

Scribe points to newly drilled holes and the stakes.

Handgun training drills

Hello,

I train with a Walther PDP (Gen 1, FS, 4" barrel, 15 lbs steel guide rod, Holosun 508T mounted). I consider myself a moderately decent shot but due to my eyesight, I struggle with tight groups. I do not want this to limit me and would like to train harder to become a better shot.

Please suggest some drills which help shooters improve their speed, efficiency, posture, and accuracy.

Thank you,
SS

Tikka CTR vs Bergara/AICS max OAL 6.5 CM

Considering swapping my Tikka CTR for a Bergara. Just for grins...no real reason. But I brought my buddy's Bergara home to look it over and my Tikka CTR mag just barely holds my reloads (OAL 2.925"), but they aren't even close to fitting in the Bergara magazine. 140 ELD-M bullets in prime brass with H4350 about 20 thousandths off the lands.

I assume the Tikka just has a really long freebore, but does anyone find the mag length limiting on the Bergara? I haven't been in the equipment game in a while - are there other mags that will fit in the Bergara to allow longer OAL?

40X Delta Build?

Thinking about a quick Delta 40X/T10 build. Basically a put together. Rifle, Scope, Redfield base. I could go T16. I have a few of each. If anyone knows for sure what was used, it would be good information. The rifle has the full clipslotting and I think 40X trigger. The adjustment is through the trigger shoe itself, not the screw in front. I don’t want to alter the rifle, so I wont have it parkerized. I just want an interesting way to preserve this classic target rifle.

I got the idea from this photo in the M14 SDM/DMR thread:

And this rifle from the same thread:

After seeing these, I wanted a 40X 7.62 repeater. Mine is close to USMCSGT0331’s prototype.

Unfortunately, these don’t have the barrel date codes. I’m curious when the underlining in the logo stopped. I have seen it on some 7 digit rifles, so after 1968.

Anyway, this is one of the side effects of trying to get a few M40 builds pieced together.

Howa Trigger Spring Mod Disappointment

I have a Howa mini action in 6 ARC. The HACT trigger is a very good 2 stage trigger IMO, but I felt it needed to be lighter. I backed out the tension screw and it didn’t do much to lighten trigger.

I did the mod as seen on You Tube where you cut coils off the tension spring to reduce pull weight. Well now I think the trigger kinda sucks. The first stage is very short now with a couple perceptible “bumps” in the take up vs smooth like from the factory. The 2nd stage is firm and then it breaks clean with no travel. That’s a good thing, except it still feels slightly stiff.

Anyone do the mod cutting coils off the spring? Is it normal virtually lose the first stage?

SOLD Bix n Andy Tacsport ProX trigger

Bix n Andy Tacsport ProX trigger with Gator shoe and an extra low sear. The low sear works better in most actions I've tried it in. This trigger has very little use and the sear is brand new. In great shape. Now $275 shipped and insured.
