Thanks. I was just curious how yours compared to my 155 load. I was one of the early adopters of 8208 because I couldn't find Varget. Now you can't find either one :(

He put a max charge of the fastest burning powder recommended for that bullet weight into a thick heavy military case. That particular charge was developed in the thinnest case on the market. If you put that charge in a LC case, youll drive pressures through the roof, especially because xbr is fast burning for that application.

What he did is retarded and dangerous. And people like you who dont understand how case volume affects pressure are just eating it up. So go do some research on the subject before posting anymore ignorance.

There have been NO ill effects in my rifle.

I have a pretty long jump even with my coal of 2.850 I still have .100 jump with the RDF also I can insert the bullet into the case filled with 42.7 grains of 8208 to a coal of 2.75" . So from my stand point I'm neither retarded or dangerous!

Should I have stated this on a public forum? Probably not but to say its not possible to get a 2650 as the OP was wanting is not true either.

If I seat the bullet deeper as stated that gives me a .10 more volume then add another .10 of jump to the lands and I'm not pushing the envelope!
In fact I was having a hard time with the rifle not cycling with lighter starting loads.

Actually, I’m NOT eating up, nor did I say I was anywhere. I also didn’t provide any statements purported to be fact, so I’m not sure how I’m “posting ignorance.”

What I DID say was that retarded comments like yours, without any data attached, do nothing to add to the conversation for those of us who are learning the ins and outs of reloading, and are thus “trolling.” I don’t know who the hell you are, or what your experience level is, so stupid comments like those you provided (“you’re lying then”) may as well be omitted. Want to contribute positively to the conversation? Then maybe formulate a useful comment like the one above, which explains WHY and HOW you think he’s lying, sans the insults nobody here needs… That’s all I’m asking. The rdf is 1.35” long to the SMK being 1.25”, so its .100” longer. You seating the RDF to 2.850” is still seating it deeper than the SMK at 2.800”. You are doing this in a LC case having 2 grains less case volume than the Winchester case. If your powder charge makes 61,000PSI in a Winchester case, its making well in excess of 70000 in a LC case. And this is with XBR of all powders, probably the most unforgiving combination for the 308. I have LC LR brass. I know how it handles pressure.

For what its worth, this is what GRT puts out for the load being debated. Puts him at 64,000psi, while spicy and technically over charged. Its not gunna blow up the gun and with strong primers should only show flattened primers as a pressure sigh. I know im comfortable running my 308 up to 65,000psi before my butt starts to pucker(proof load for 308 is 75,275psi). So I'd say this load is plausible, albeit deffinatly qualifying under the +p Category. Lets try and keep it civil here talk with the data.

Not right . From a 2.850 I'm still jumping
.10 to the lands with the rdf. Doesn't matter the length, what does matter is the profile of the particular bullet.
The baring surface is shorter.
 
In my testing with 8208 in my 22" GAP 10 gas gun, I went up up 42.0 of 8208 in a Federal case with a Nosler 175 CC and was blowing primers. I went to 41.0 8208 and stopped blowing primers. Velocity AVG. was 2612 FPS with the 41.0. load.

In 2 of my bolt guns, I tested up to to 42.0 8208 in the Federal case W/ the Nosler 175, but that was pushing it. In thinner brass, I can go to 42.0 grains with an AVG of 2669 FPS, with no pressure issues. In the heavy, Federal cases, I use 41.0 grs. W/ an AVG of 2642 FPS with no pressure issues. This is with a 24" Hart 1-12" in a Remington 700 L/H, originally a VSF.

I learned not to go above 42.0 grs. with 8208 even in the thinner, Winchester & Hornady brass in my bolt guns. In my GAP 10, I don't go above 41.0 grs.

I got very good S/D E/S numbers with 8208 & accuracy with the Nosler 175 CC and the Hornady 178 OTM.

Like I posted earlier, If I had a 20" bolt gun and needed speed @ reasonable pressures, I'd be using Alliant 2000 MR. My testing showed with a 175 Nosler CC, 46.5 grs. in a Federal case and 47.5 grs. in a Winchester or Hornady case. The speeds are impressive. My second choice would be CFE 223, it's really close to Alliant 2000 MR.

I tested CFE 223 in my Hart bolt gun with 46.2 Grs. in a Hornady case with a Nosler 175 CC and got an AVG of 2749 FPS.

My only issue is with the R700 Short Action im limited to 2.840 if i want it to feed in the magazine.
There's a lot to be considered when working up a load with any powder.
I only went to 2.850 because all I ever heard was jump the bullet as close to the lands as possible!
So thats where I started.

And I worked up the load starting from a very low charge. I kept going up.

I said in the beginning of this thread that I wanted to do more with the seating depth to see if I could tighten up the groups. I'm already at mag length so I'll be jumping the bullet farther till I get what I want.

If you use 8208 I would use your mag length and start low and work up cautiously .
I believe every rifle, brass, powder, bullet and primer have there unique characteristics and all should be considered very carefully.
 
From what iv gathered here thus far i need to Pickup some RL15, 8208, 2000MR and H4895. If i can track any down. Im gunna work up loads with what powders i got right now and report back with the chrono data here when i got the spare time. Been working on mk mk262 'clone' aswell.
 
I've had great results with accurate 2520 shooting a 175smk. I do use lapua brass though. Happy to share the load data
If you haven’t already done so, try 24.8-25g of AA2520 with 77 smks in a lake city case, R7-1/2 primer: basically a clone of mk262 mod 1. Shoots .75-1.0 moa in my mod 1 and 1.5 or so in my carbines.

I will do that. I have 75gr bthp Hornady though for 223 and I've been running 25.2gr of TAC for that one and had very good results, but I've only run it in my bolt gun. On the list (which has grown considerably of late since swapping some guns /barrels/actions around), is to work up a load for my CLE precision AR. I have lapua brass but I have been strongly considering getting some LC brass for that gun and keeping the lapua for bolt gun only.

Id love for you to share your 2520 load data for the 175's. I'v been using 25.2 grains of 2520 for my mk262 clone.

What are we defining as "high" pressure signs? Flattening primers or you punching em and stretching the cases?
Sorry, just seeing this. Not my picture but heavy ejector mark similar to the case on top. No blown primers. Should’ve started lower, just used a round that’s fine in my bolt 308 in a new AR.

I always kind of wonder how big of a deal flat primers are? Seems like some actions produce that even when the pressure isn't what you'd think it would be. I'm not a risk taker with ammo loading though.

Howdy all, Im looking to push a 175gr SMK to 2650fps out of a 20" Remington 700 short action so my ACSS Apollo BDC is accurate past 800yds. Bit of an ask out of an 20" I know but i believe its doable. My question is has anyone produced loads that replicate the performance I'm looking for? According to GRT Lever Evolution and BL-C(2) are my prime candidates. I don't entirely trust GRT yet so im looking for some real world input?
Loads im looking at on GRT for a 2.005 case length, 2.83 overall length, 55.4H2O case capacity.
LeverEvolution at 45.8 grains puts it at 2650 at 57,000psi
BL-C(2) at 46.8 grains puts it at 2644 at 61,000psi
Now Hodgdon lists their max charge for BL-C(2) at 46.0 grains for a 175 grain projectile. As you can tell the GRT Load is a little spicier than that(should go without saying to start lower and work up). As for LeverEvolution my only issue with it is temperature sensitivity. Some other options i've considered are Varget, H4895 and IMR4064 (pressure curves look a little sketchy for the 4064 according to GRT at 70k psi for 2650 out of a 20) but iv heard thats whats used for the M118LR round so who knows. Again Would love to see if anyone has pushed a 175 grain out ofa 20" 308 at 2650 or better and if so how did you do it? Thanks!

Even in the lands had no overpressure signs on the primers. Best powder for .308 5.56 8mm Mauser 30.30 I’ve ever used. Very low sd and not very temp sensitive. I’m about to try lovex 73.4 to clone this same round . I guess its shooters

I was jumping .30 to the lands in the FAL
 
Out of my 20" Remington LTR shooting 175 SMK I got 2574 with 42.2 IMR 4064, 2507 with 44.5 Varget, and 2569 with 42.7. Best group was 1-1/2" @ 300 with the 4064 load.
Thanks for these velocity numbers. I cant tell you how long ive tried to find a real 1st hand account of this....I dont have a chronograph and cant afford one that would be worth a darn, so im holding off a while. 42.2-42.5 and a little bit of seating depth play sounds like a great place to end up with the 175's. I will work up but just having some real velocity numbers is great. My barrel has a 1-10 twist , most of are these days it seems
