Hey Crosshair,

The SWFA SS 16X42 came in today.
Overall finish is impressive, nice pebble black.
Rear focus smooth, but tight.
X/Y clicks firm, tight and audible. X/Y turrets finger friendly
MilQuad? Reticle: sharp, and contrasty on a bright field.
What's a 'MilQuad'?, /'No' tech manual.
Lens Hood in place.
Allen wrench, okay?
No caveats on zeroing.
'No' Technical Manual.
Plain White Box, impressive; far too, too many scopes come in really nice and snazzy boxes and no go for the scope. I'll take this.
But!, where's the damned technical manual?!
Butler Creek, flaps okay? Ordered them.
Even got the really nice B/C promo sheets that came with them.
But, where's the damned technical manual?!
Honestly guys [from SWFA] is this one of those "...yer' big enough to figger' it out on yer' own scopes..."
This may well be a good scope; went on line to lots of other forums and the vast consensus is that this is a very good scope system; but, the lack of a technical manual seems to me to be a really bad start here, especially as I ordered another [SS10X42] to complete the 40X.
Hey, even 'Barska' [with a really snazzy box four color box] has a technical manual you have to be multilingually multicultural to read.
What's up with that?

The box my new Mark4 came in sure is Purdy! Even came with a manual:)
Seriously, it should have came with one.... give them a call.

Dial UP to make your impact go up. Dial down to make your impact go down. Adjust focus until your target and reticle are in focus. Squeeze trigger until you hear bang. Once you get your zero, loosen the set screws on the turret, spin it to zero and tighten the set screws.
If you need to range or holdover you can print this pic off to explain the reticle.

Don't overthink it. I find I throw most manuals away, as most guys do and don't really need them.

You read scope manuals? I can't even remember if my Bushnell DMR came with a manual or not....

+1 on being self explanatory. Side note, did you try contacting them before starting a thread complaining about it? I'd be willing to bet they'll be happy to send you one.

It's been known that SWFA does not ship the SS line with a manual, only a description of the Mil-Quad reticle at best. Yes, I do think they should put something together for new shooters at least describing the locking focus ring, battery installation of illuminated models, zeroing and resetting dials, and lens care. This sport is intimidating enough as it is to enter into, and dammit, knowing is half the battle! :D

Thats cool you got your new scope, it would be nice to get more paperwork with them though. Most of the information you'll ever need to know can be found on this site as well as opticstalk.com. I really like the mil-quad reticle, the subtension info will come up with a quick google search if nothing else. Get her mounted up and let us know how she works!

On edit, I'll post a pic of the subtensions below, this is from the 5-20, but they are the same:

And, just so you know, I'm not affiliated with SWFA in any way, I merely recommended this scope to you because it is a best value for what you were looking for, manual or not.

Thank you Crosshair; I understood that from you immediately. No worry on that count. Am I complaining? to the 'other' well if one wants to take it that way, you're damned right I am. Or do we only get manual when we pop with the big bucks? USO, N/F etc., The fact that this is a "...well yer' a big boy go figger' it for yerself kind of scope..." smacks of being less than professional in their approach, and the reply to that as somehow 'whining' or 'complaining' is crapulous. I'm a USN CPO, an Underway 1200lb Steam rated Engineering Officer of the Watch, and a double Bronze rifleman '91 USN National team. I am "a Professional". And, I never ever turned someone loose on anything and would not allow any piece of equipment to come into my cognizance or any of my spaces until there was an SOP, an EOSS, or PMS MRC and MIP with it. As far as I'm concerned my money, no matter the amount of principal, entitles me to that.
I would greatly appreciate any help from you on the MilQuad. or resourcing to the proper instructional website.
Yes I did call SWFA and got a rather limpid lack of interest answer. If I had been in that noom I would have bitten that man's nose clean off his face, and I did that once in '67 on Guam.
all the best

Let me put it this way. What about the scope can you not figure out? Crosshair already posted the reticle subtensions. There isn't a whole lot else that needs literature that I can think of. Scopes aren't complex to operate....
