They "drill".

Thanks , That's certainly straight shooting. Gun, Shooter, and Bullets at their finest to get those results. I don't see JLK on the shelves but their always full of 6.5 Bergs in my neck of the woods. Seems like very similar bullets and performance from both brands.

My testing shows .600 for the 130gr JLK's. They are very accurate and kill exactly like the 130gr Berger Hunting VLD's.

Agree. I have ran .590 BC with the 130's and .639 w the 140's on my rifles. The do perform beautifully on game, been using them since Jimmy himself was building them.

Thanks! Yes and yes to the question.

When I shot that plate, I had a friend along to spot. He was watching through my spotter and called the first shot center of plate. The second shot he called right edge of plate at 3 o'clock, and the third he called top edge at 12 o'clock. We both kind of shook our heads when we drove down to have a closer look.....grin!

I hope GAP has you on the payroll Pat, you've got me hooked with results like you've been showing! :)

Thanks for the updates and for making a helluva nice product yourself, love my new Montana Sling.

Those numbers are close but I run slightly higher after the pointing process. I have some 3 round groups at 150 yards that were the best groups I've ever shot. Have not had a chance to shoot any game with them yet but I'm sure they will do the trick.

The 140gr JLk's were about .4 higher at 700 then the 140gr Berger Hybrids.

3 rounds at 150 yards. Prone. Two groups on the 130's because I had to come down a touch.

Seems most of the info, groups etc is rigs with the old reamer. What I want to hear and see is some groups, with folks with the "new" shorter F/B reamer. I think there has been one or two postings and they seem to have had issues but never returned and posted on their progress. I know George mentioned that they had built about 100 of them and no complaints but... I haven't seen any post about them, maybe I missed them?? I would figure they would be eager to post info and results.

I believe I read somewhere in this thread that some fellas preferred the Remington brass as opposed to the Norma brass.. Why is that? Also, has anyone tried the 136 Scenars?? If so, how did they perform?

Thanks,

Bob

I think I remember reading somewhere that one member ran into pressure early with "standard" loads that others had used. I also seem to remember George himself attributing this to a couple things and one of them was reduced case capacity of the Norma case vs the Rem.

Like others have said, the Rem brass is working great for a lot of folks...accurate as hell and great case life. Someone posted a picture of their ammo box and it listed like 10-12 reloads on that set of brass. Can't get better than that. It's also cheaper.

The new shorter reamer is not causing problems. The only problem would arise if you have ammo loaded for the old reamer specs and you jam it into the new reamers specs. You would need to run it back thru the die and compress just a touch to get off the lands.

I would say a majority of the barrels cut so far were with the original reamer. Might not be to many with the new one, yet.

I've got a shit load of 6.5 Norma SAUM prepped brass from CC. I wonder if I should also give the Remington brass a try.

Thanks for continuing to update this thread.

Pap,

I honestly think you SHOULD go for the Remington brass... Being the friend that I am, I'll allow you to send me that shitty Norma brass and I will dispose of it for you in a safe, professional and courteous manner. ;)

Best regards,

Bob

I can see how your spotter made those calls.
Great shooting.
I have only shot one 5 shot group that good in my life at 725 yds.

you can't be that surprised..... :) Knowing who the trigger man is !

No kidding, right?

That's a funny story though. And amazing results regardless.

Looking forward to seeing them shoot up close and personal (but worried I might decide I "need" one).

: )

How's the brass issue coming?? Still pretty hard to find?? I had Arizona ammo quote me over 300$ A BOX!!!! Most expensive ammo I ever heard of!! But if you can't find brass it seams fair......

Copper Creek cartridge co has 6.5 SAUM 4s Remy and Norma brass. They also carry full loads with 130/140 Bergs

Yea but 300$+ a box that's more than I can swallow. That's more than 15$ a pop..... You gotta be kidding... I don't care if it shot .25 moa at 1K in any wind.... Just too much skin. It makes the whole project kind of a joke??? Who can deal with that $$$ for ammo?? Yes it's bad ass, but unless something changes it dead as it stands... You gotta get the major ammo makers on board or just forget it... Only a few will play then it will be over.......

Thanks KYS but I was not saying that there is anything wrong with the new reamer, I just read that a couple of folks have noted problems that have used the new reamer, it is still unclear what their issues were or are since they have not posted back. I guess we will just wait and see what develops, I am still pressing forward and anxiously await it's completion. I am still going with the 7 SAUM Norma brass right now and see how that goes with a 26" stick. Then see what George comes up with later this year on brass and since this is part of a switch barrel rig I don't mind the wait. Might get 50 Remmy just to test.

By they way great trigger control to both you and Pat, nice shooting!!!

Bubb, it's a box of 50.

That's still more than .50 BMG ammo! Just saying enjoy while you can. Unless the big boys come on board.

And it drops down to about $2.50 a round to reload the brass which by all accounts should be well over 10 with remington brass.

This round is for the reloader or rich man right now, which one are you? If youre neither this round isnt for you. Besides wtf good is 50bmg for anyway? Weiner compensation? This round is pure badass, a big brother the 6.5CM which is awesome in its own right. While its more brass prep it looks like less load development, probably a wash in time spent by the time its said and done. I bet George will get something going this year on the brass.

Any possibility of doing this round in a GAP 10? I know DPMS used to do a 300 SAUM AR.

Also any possibility of running it in a AIAE?

Well Said!

Yea, but they quoted me 300+ a box???? You got that laying around???

5 bucks a bullet for absolute goodness . Money well spent. 8-12 or more reloadings being experienced. All rifles seem to be shooting pure bliss with the same load development. Low recoil. 1800fps @925ish yards with 58000psi. etc etc etc.......Whats not to like.
Getting your first set of preformed brass may take some lube, but it gets easier after that. Weatherby and Lazerroni ammo can he just as much without the awesomeness

6.5 SAUM 4s. Absolute goodness. :).......for a reloader........for now.

You guys should see if you can get enough orders for a big group buy for brass. I'm sure there's someone on this forum with enough clout to broker the deal.

Hi I was hoping you guys could help me, I am in the process of building a 6.5 saum here in new Zealand with the no turn reamer. If I read this correctly I just need 7 saum redding type s dies with appropriate bushings and 6.5 vld seated? Can somebody tell me please what bushings I require to convert both 7mm and 300 saum brass with this reamer?

I can order large quantity but that is not the issue. The issue is: did Remington just do a run of the brass or not? If they haven't then you will have to search for what is out there.

I had a 14k piece order show up back in early November. That might have been their yearly run of it. Let George work on the brass at Shot Show, he will make something happen.

Has anyone built a 6.5 4s using a stiller action? I assume they should work, but just wanted to check.

Are the jlk bullets suitable for hunting game with? or are they mostly a target bullet? Anyone have an update on the release of berger 130 hybrids?

You can hunt with the JLK's. I have taken animals with the 130's. They dropped where they were shot.

tho98027, last I checked with Berger on the 130 hybrids I was told they are still on the back burner.

Got my 6.5 Saum all put together last night. Brass chambers but is pretty tight. Probably cause I started with 300 saum and used the standard redding type s bushing dies that doesn't quite get all the neck sized. Seems to work and I'm sure after the first firing I can get it all dialed in. I'm down to 1lb of H1000 and I would like to save it after this brass is fire formed, so I'm looking for a fire forming load. I have lots of H4350 and various other 1lb jugs of Hodgdon powders. I was wondering if you guys have any fire forming load suggestions? I have a ton of 140 amax. I was thinking I'd push the bullets into the lands by .005" to blow the case out. I don't have quickload or any other resources to work up a load for a wildcat like this so figured this would be a good place to start.

Thanks

Read this thread in the reloading forum http://www.snipershide.com/shooting/snipers-hide-reloading/195161-care-feeding-gap-6-5-saum.html Do not buy a 6.5 VLD seating stem. Buy a 7 VLD seating stem for 7 SAUM dies. It is all explained along with part numbers in the thread I referenced.

Retumbo , Use the same amounts as H1000

Thanks for that, will a standard type s die work? It is all I can find at the moment. Can't find the match ones.

A Type S Full Length Bushing Die part #77280 is the same as supplied in the match set. The Match seating die will be the issue. A standard 7 RSUAM seat die may or may not work as well. VLD seating assemblys are available for standard seat dies (completly different than the seating stems for the match dies). Another member on this forum is using a 300 RSUAM Type S Match Full Length Die Set with a 300 VLD seating stem successfully so that may be an option for you. It sounds like you have a reamer available. If you can find a 260 Rem Comp seat die you can have whoever is building your rifle ream the sleeve with the 6.5 SAUM reamer and use a 6.5 VLD seat stem in it.
