Official First Look at the Accuracy International, AX308MC

Really hoping to see a SA mag bolt for this, a 300wsm. I want some more horsepower but not all that extra weight.

The OLD 90's era AT had the 2 rows of 3 for the lug configuration.......both of mine combined probably had upwards of 80k rounds between the two of them....and the lugs as good as the day they were made.

Poison, thanks for the reply. However I was talking about the bolt on the quicklock galling over time not the locking lugs. That is one thing that AI seems to have nailed is their heat treat on the lugs they seem to last forever! My reasoning for thinking about the galling is that other systems that use this style of barrel retention like the Sauer & DTA to name a few spread the load over 3 or 4 bolts not just 1. It didn't look like Frank used very much torque in the video, but that just may have been for the video. However if the torque is low enough and or proper lube is used then it is not an issue. It was just the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the video. I know the PSR has that same system but I just have not really looked at them until now.

Sorry for running everything together in my post this morning and making it confusing. I had just got up and was trying to hurry to get to the gym.

Be afraid of the man with one rifle..........and 3 barrels!

The old saying has changed

Just placed a down payment on a black 24" AX308MC with Mile High Shooting. Can't wait until I get to shoot it. Now just a final decision on an optic.

We now have current pricing on the new 2014 Rifles from AI. Please go to Accuracy International - AI Rifle Systems - 2014 Accuracy International Rifles - Mile High Shooting Accessories

Note there was a release showing the base price for the AT at $3550.00. That is an incorrect price. The base price for the AT’s is $3823.00 for a plain barrel system. Folding stocks are available for an additional $422.00

We will continue to offer Snipers Hide Members an additional 5% off of AI’s list price. Please call for details on all of AI’s new rifle systems!

Are the new AX308MC availiable with longer rail as an order option? It appears from the pictures the rail is probably the 13" model and I would like one with a 16". I just wouldn't want to pay $6900 then have to turn around and spend $400 more for the longer rail.

I was very impressed with these rifles at SHOT.

Something I would like to know is, if a barrel is removed will it have its same zero when it is remounted to the receiver?

According to, I believe it was Tom Irwin , on the 8541 tactical coverage, it will retain zero.

Anyone remember the old school AW demo videos Scott Seigmund made years ago? His video showed the AW shooting an initial group, then a complete barrel swap and shot some more. All the rounds (10 i think ) went into the same grouping. Even though this was the old system, Im thinking the new thread/clamp system of the AXMC applies close if not the same overall torque that was applied with the old school method. I think it was 100 ft/lbs ( dont remember exact specification).

I bet it does hold zero or at least at 100 yards you wont notice much shift if any. At 800 and out might see a little, but IDK. Ill know if a few months.

Lowlight, could you comment on how the accuracy of the new AI rifles compares to a custom built rig of similar style built by GAP/(some other quality builder) with a Templar or Surgeon action? Are the AI actions just as good, better?

Thats it. I tried to do the same but could not find it anymore, but now that I rewatched it I realize I was wrong. He does not shoot the rifle again after the rebarrel. I was mistaken with the scope mount part in video #1. Maybe I was confused with the video Bill at Tacpro made. My bad, but still a cool video. Thanks for posting.

These rifles are very accurate. Every bit as accurate as any custom rifle.

This looks like the ultimate rifle.

Any word if AI has modified the firing pin aperture to reduce primer piercing? I am experiencing this issue with my AIAW in .260 Remington. From other postings that I've seen on the Hide and Accurate Shooter, this is a common problem particularly with 6.5mm cartridges.

If they come out with a left hand version with a reduced firing pin aperture I'd be all over it.

Are you going to post about pierced primers on every AI thread?

Considering that I and others are experiencing the issue even with factory ammunition, how is it inappropriate to ask this question about their newest model? Should I have to purchase one to find out?

I believe my posts have been courteous and factual in nature. I have even pointed out the many positive qualities of AI rifles. People have been writing and posting about pierced primers in AI rifles long before I did.

My AI AW 1.5 has been a 260 for at least 5 years and never pierced a single primer.

If you are unwilling fix it, by either rotating the firing the pin of or getting it bushed, it then becomes your fault and your problem.

if you post it one more time, I am removing your account cause I am tiring of you spamming the place over it. you've been told what to do. If you don't want to do it, or are incapable of doing it, sell your AI and move on. The constant whining about it is tiring.

There are just as many people with AIs in other calibers that are not piercing primers.

Left handed ax?

Good morning everyone. Just over 90 mins to the start of Shot Show and I am really looking forward to it
The new AX is priced around the same as the AX it replaces

Does anyone know the reason for the new AX rifles having a 1-12 vs the 1-10 of the old AX rifles? I know 1-10 is only needed for subsonic work and 1-12 will be just fine for most .308 bullets. I am just wondering what the reason, if any, was for swiching.

Yea the reasoning is the source for the barrels. All AX rifles are fitted with Bartlein barrels cut by Dave Tooley in the US. The new AXMC are being shipped complete with barrels from the UK. Nothing changed, just being shipped with barrels instead of not. UK barrels have always been 1-12 for the most part.

I assumed that the whole barrel tenon threads would be a split-loc design, it's only a portion of the middle, this makes way more sense then how I though they did it.

Thought it was pretty neat that they even have a ball detent stystem to keep the allen key retained in the butt stock. Just goes to show the attention to detail that AI puts into their rifles.

Also the fit and finish of the rifle is outstanding, much better than some of the AI's that I have seen in the last few years. Even all the skins line up perfect and flush everywhere. I can't find a flaw in the rifle.

More to come later...

Gorgeous! Same rifle I'm waiting for. Pictures look great. I just need some more patience and this Thread is not helping! I post some shots, once mine arrives. Good luck and let us know how she shoots.

Can you measure the bolt body diameter? I am trying to figure out if I should order a new bore guide. The pictures are awesome, lucky bastard!

Thanks, I kind of figured as much, just wanted to double check so that I have everything here to hit the ground running once the new AI's start shipping to those of us in the US.

They are. Mile High just received a shipment this week. Per-orders out first, as stated by them Wednesday.

Got the AX308MC out for a few shots today. Took five shots to get a good zero. The next five shots from the rifle (shots 6-10) went through the same hole!!! Couldn't be happier with this rifle.

The five shot group measured:
0.460"
-0.308"
=0.152"

^^^excellent shooting! I think AI hit it out of the park with the MC rifles. Congrats on your purchase.

I can't wait until, I can get my hands on these. I have a few on order for inventory at my shop.

I am interested to see if pulling and replacing the barrel will result in a discernible zero shift. I can pull the barrel out of my DTA SRS and place it back in without any zero shift. If the AT and AXMC rifles can do this, I think they will have a some great rifles for the multi caliber crowd.

Ok guys the thread on the AI AT is pretty active, let's keep the AXMC thread alive and ready for some pics. I'm waiting on mine from milehigh. Can't wait. If anyone got some pics let see them.
Been on the list since 01/22/14.

This was just factory ammo? wow

I'm getting anxious too! Been on MH's list for a AXMC 260 since 1/24.

Hi Everybody This is my First Thread in Sniper's Hide forum. I just bought a 2014 AI AXMC .300 win Mag Rifle. I need some help with deciding on Bullet choice. I am gonna shoot steel target 500 yard or below need to find cheap (but don't want to destroy my expensive gun) .300 win mag ammunition for all day shooting. And also I need something good over 500 yard up to a Mile(This ammunition has to be the best or higher BC etc....price doesn't matter) on paper or steel target. please let me know the brand, grains for both distances. (by the way I am not interested on reloading). Looking for something right out the Box for best accuracy. Thanks for your time. cheers! Also special thanks to Frank who was helping me to set up my rifle at Mile High Shooting LLC.

This was just factory ammo? wow

It was handloads, funny enough thou I'm always super ridiculous about my brass prep, neck tension, etc. These I just threw together quick for my m40 clone and thought I would try them in the AXMC just to get out and shoot it so I wasn't expecting them to shoot like this.

The load was:
175gr SMK
Federal 1x fired brass
44.0gr Varget
Federal 210M Primer
2.810" COAL

Just full length sized the brass and trimmed to length, no brass voodoo whatsoever. I'm curious to see how they shoot at 1000.
