so i build this today. im pretty proud of it. i understand that a low hit might destroy the hinges but well see what happens. the plate will take a 338 lapua at 100 yards so i think it will be ok as far as that goes! what do ya think? a friend of mine is working on drawing up plans for it if anyone would want them.

also feel free to give my page a like haha!

Really awesome! I think that looks good.

If you put a piece of AR500 in front like a little shield, it will all last a lifetime

Thanks guys! When I get the plans I will put them up here might be a week or so the guy drawing it up is going to Cali for the weekend and starts a new job when he gets back haha

Or a couple of sandbags side by side.

Just take the bags and a small shovel and fill them on site so you don't have to haul the extra weight.

Sandbags is a good idea but I am going to put some ar 500 in front of the target because the motor hangs slightly below the target face and I need to pick up the whole thing a little bit otherwise the arm that picks up the motor hits the ground.

Haha that video is funny! Sorry for the vertical video haha! Also how did you get the video to post right on the thread? I couldn't get it do do that

While you're at it, why not weld an axle in the bottom and a handle on the back (or socket for a removable one). Put some wheels on it that can be held in place with a washer and hitch pin clip. That way you won't have to carry it. Wheel it into position, remove the wheels (and handle if you desire) and shoot away. If you use a quad to haul your target out to the distance you want, make the handle a "trailer tongue".

Where did you get the steel for it? Must be a cool ass person to give away steel like that. Hahaha. So when are we gonna shoot it?

Working on it! Me and my buddy have both been out of town last couple weekends for work. When I get them done ill post them ere and pm them to the people thg asked! Sorry it's taking so long!

Looks like most of the components can be found at surpluscenter.com. Just thought ibwould share that site. great job btw. Looks great.

Haha for sure!! And hopefully when we go to shoot on the farm again!

Ya it's a rear wiper motor off a 98 dodge caravan haha gotta use one that doesn't spin all the way around.

That's pretty cool. What's the weight of the steel target you are using? I have a couple of half size IPSC targets. Just curious if they were similar in weight

I couldn't tell ya exactly how heavy it is. I'm guessing around 10 lbs. but I'm pretty bad at guessing weight haha

As bad as I call wind, I would need a couple hundred feet of cable between the target and the battery :)

First, tag for plans. Second, I've had 3 whiskeys and that video made me cry I was laughing so hard!

Sent from my SCH-I605

Just wanted to update this. I am reassigning some if the resetting system to make everything work better and last longer. Also sounds like the guy that was gonna draw up computer plans isn't going to do it anymore so I'm going to hand sketch some stuff and take lots of pics haha

alright here they are! a big thanks to JGriffin for drawing up the plans for me! if you have any questions let me know! the motor is a rear windshield wiper motor out of a 98 dodge caravan if you are looking for the motor!

Hillbilly,
Your buddy did a NICE job on those CAD drawings!
I don't know how quick I'll get it together, but I just scored a wiper motor on Ebay for $5.
Thanks for a great design.

Sweet target!!!! problem with your plans though.....cut it three times and it's still to short!

Great job man! Was thinking of making one of these myself. I'm sure these will come in handy!

Thanks for sharing,

Thanks! Also one more thing. The wiring. One wire is ground. I think it was the brown one. Then one wire will make the. It or run and the other will power the motor to run it into park mode. The park mode needs to always have power. The switch the plate hits needs to put power to the run wire on the motor. I hope this helps!

Nice work. If the bottom of the target extended a couple inches lower would it be able to protect the rest of the mechanism better and do away with the need of the front protector plate?

That is pretty cool. I have a customer that makes lift kits and scraps thousands of 3 and 4 inch circles that are 1/4" think. The steel is mild but I made a couple resetting targets for 22 rifle out of them and a small gearmotor.

My motor does not have the camming function that a wiper motor has but I designed my mechanism to deal with that, and added a small microcontroller to delay when the motor starts and a couple other functions.
