Cadex Defence, flaunt it if you've got it!

Few questions for the group:

Can someone explain the Roller bedding. Seems like it’s just cylindrical rods glued into slots for matting surface for the action.

How much torque do you guys use for the action screws? I’ve always used 60in/lbs but recently people have been beating on their rifles to simulate hard useage and showing a POI shift when rifles aren’t bedded properly. This question, sparked the first question.

Why in the hell does Kraken barrels cost $1,200-1,300.00???

-Both my current Cadex folding stock (Lite) factory long action rifles do not have roller bedding. Along with the 308 guardian rifle I just sold. Not sure what ones do?

65 inch pounds is what I was told from Cadex. Have to look at my manual. For switch barrel rifles I perfer the Accuracy International AXMC.

My Long Action Lite Comp chassis has roller bedding in it.

I’m running a LA BigHorn Arms action which didn’t specify the torque spec. Edit: just called and they said 55in-lbs

I prefer the Kraken switch barrel design. Not saying I’m buying one but I would if their barrels didn’t cost as much as a new action. At that price, just have a multi rifles lol.

10-4. I only have factory Cadex rifles so no experience with the rollers on just a chassis itself.
Yes they are expensive!

My Lite Strike has roller beading in it. TQed to 60 in-lbs IIRC Has been holding true and tight for two years and through about 1480, 338 rounds sent.

Hey all, just wanted to see what you guys are using for S/A mags in the Cadex chassis. Thanks!

Accurate and MDT for me as well. Tight lock up, but it’s all very new. I have sanded a Magpul to work as well, and it still works in my rpr too.

Anyone know which action the Shadow has in it or who manufactures the action for the Shadow? I’m assuming it’s a larger action than the Shepherd because of what it’s shooting.

Just trying to inform myself before purchasing

It's a Cadex CDX-40 action

If anyone has a Shadow 40 rifle they want to sell or a Shadow 40 action, PM me details.

I removed all of my rail screws and blue loctited them, then reinstalled back at 20 in/lbs. Haven’t touched the action screws as I have a factory rifle, so I left those be.

Well it's balanced really well and I was hoping to shoot it but, I am working on a trade for an AI, so I may not have a chance to shoot this one. I will build another sometime in the future. The bolt knob is from MPA and I like it alot, made the bolt lift seem a little lighter since it add a little bit of length.

are you getting the AXMC? I really considered the AI before going with the Cadex chassis, Vector action, Bartlein barrel and Huber concepts... I might try to trade in a couple of my custom rifles for the AXSR once that’s been out for a while...

An acquaintance of mine of mine has an AT in excellent shape, so we are probably going to trade. I will more than likely look at trying to acquire an axiom for a 224 Valkyrie, since the AI is only capable of doing 308 based calibers. I am very impressed with the Cadex chassis and would not hesitate to purchase for my next build.

Ok, short review on the kraken....

Barrel changes: Not nearly as bad as I initially thought. Now that I'm proficient with the tools, I can swap calibers in right around 1 minute. That's about the same time as it takes with the axmc.

POI repeatably after barrel removal: The kraken has the axmc beat here. I shot a 5 shot group with each, removed the barrel and shot another 5 shot group three times with each. The kraken didn't move at all. My AXMC changed approx. .2mils the first switch, .3mils the second and was close to back to zero the last one.

Accuracy: Both barrels I tested were .308 shooting factory federal gmm. Both shot just under 1/2" at 100 yards.

My only complaint about the kraken.... The bolt is a touch sticky. My AXMC was like butter straight out of the box. I'm hoping the kraken will break in and smooth out some with more use. Barrels have to be special ordered to your serial number as well. It's not like AI where you can just call up a dealer and buy another barrel off the shelf. Other than that, I really like the rifle and will be keeping it a while!

Edit: I had a couple guys ask about the trigger and feeding.

The trigger is very nice! Adjustable from two stage to single stage as well. It came set up as a two stage at 2#. I adjusted the second stage to 1.5# and called it good.

The rifle feeds flawless.

Regards,

Todd

Dumb question, probably should have asked before installing my Field tactical, last night I was installing the sling attachment and went through the instructions and realized I was to use Loctite, I didn’t use Loctite on one single bolt however, I torqued everything to exact spec . Are there certain bolts that must have Loctite?

Just more of a good measure. I did thread locker on the bolts that hold the chassis together, but not rail/accessory stuff.

Kraken .308 / .300 win mag combo. Even though I really wasn't excited about the tools required to perform barrel swaps, I went ahead and tried one. I'll report back with a review and comparison to the AXMC.

MACTECH, that looks so good. Eye candy. I have been thinking either an AI or Cadex, and am tilted towards a CADEX CDX-40 Shadow in 375CT, but not sure if I am missing out on anything by not going with the upcoming AI ASR instead. I see a lot more AI AXMC for sale than CADEX rifles, and the CADEX rifles seem harder to get.

Any views/opinions?

Thank you Frank. I have the CDX-40 as well in 375 cheytac. They are great rifles but only come in .375 or .408. If you're serious about getting into ELR but still thinking you want a switch barrel, I'm going to highly recommend the AXMC. You'll be able to shoot short action .308 Win. case head cartridges up to .338 Lapua case head cartridges. Then when you're ready for ELR, get a good Smith to turn you up a 33xc or 37xc barrel for the same rifle.

Have a great weekend!

Todd

If and WHEN CADEX makes a smaller diameter forearm that lowers the Pic rail by 1/2" I might be interested.
Barrett gets it with their MRAD.
But CADEX STILL has not understood how badly their large forearm diameter screws up a decent cheek weld for prone position, adjustable comb notwithstanding.
