Tikka T3 Thread

I've been considering a 20 MOA ring/mount as an alternative to replacing the factory CTR rail with a canted rail.

Problem I'm seeing is that many of the 20 MOA mounts are very high.

Burris Signature XTR rings are an option. Any issues with the polymer inserts shrinking or becoming brittle in cold?

Another option is an ERA TAC 20 MOA one-piece mount. For a 30mm tube, one can get the standard or ultralight models for .94 and .9 inches ring height respectively.

Any other canted ring/mount options out there that stay "low?"

If you are worried about removing the factory rail, don’t be. The internet makes it seem like it’s impossible and you’ll break something. I almost didn’t remove mine because of the interweb and almost settled for an expensive mount but it’s actually really easy.

If you are just wanting a mount,
The arc mount seemed pretty good when I was looking!

Yeah the rail on my Tac A1 came off very easily but previous reports had me expecting stripped screws and a rail just short of being welded on. There was a thin layer of epoxy, thread locker, or maybe bedding compound but it stuck to the rail, not the receiver.

I have an Area 419 20moa rail on the way that will take its place since its out of the Tac A1 chassis.

The rail is long but it's awfully nice having the ability to put my bipod way out there.
Yeah that would be handy, especially when hanging the rifle over obstacles. I just run the Area419 arcas, I have their Gen 1 and 2, Gen 2 is good to go, Gen 1 stays on the backup gun

ADM ad-recon-sl 20moa mount is the lowest mount I've seen.

Thanks boss.

Yeah, kinda.
I have ordered the Hi-Tec carbon stock so it will be a few weeks before it's laid up and on the way.

I'll sell off the ESS but it's so comfortable to shoot so I'll miss it but I will certainly not be in need of the recoil management aspect with a suppressed 6.5 Creedmoor!
It's the one in the middle of the photo with the vertical grip
I have a wee project underway as it will need some bottom metal inletting and a load developed so I'll be sending it away whilst I'm out of the country until the end of the year.
The suppressor is super quiet and I love the caliber.

What stock company is this?

I just had a chance to take my T3x TAC A1 260 out to the desert today and stretch its legs a bit. This is only the second time I’ve gotten to shoot it. The first time out, after a break-in procedure I was able to shoot back to back 1/4 MOA groups at 100 - the gun shoots far better than the shooter currently.

Today, we had steel at 788, 1144, 1205 and 1322 yards. Using Strelock Pro I dialed in the range and conditions and was in steel immediately. I then dialed it up for the second range, and again hit immediately. I was short on the third target and dialed an extra two clicks and hit, then adjusted for the longest target and hit two in a row.

That is the furthest I’ve ever tried to date. The projectile seemed to take forever to hit the mark, and it was cool to be able to re-acquire the site in the scope in time to watch the impact.

I had ladder rounds to work through, but by this time the wind was starting to pick up so I’ll have to save that for another day.

What an awesome p,atform for a stocker in the price range.

Look up threads on issues on scope mounts/rings that are split on top. The only one to consider would be the ARC rings and mounts. @Lowlight has seen lots of issues with them. After reading it, I sold my ADM and bought the 20MOA ARC mount for my AR.

Ah... I hope mine hold up okay... I have it on the 308 and 100 rounds down, haven't had any issues retaining zero. Also detached and reattached it fine, and maintained zero.

I have the ad-recon for the AR-15 and that's fine as well... I should look up what issues people are having...

Me too... I have the ADM Recon on my Tikka now, and moved it over from my AR 10, and haven’t had any issues with my Vortex Viper HS.

A lot has been said about the T3 accuracy... Im not there yet but getting to what I think is the end of my barrel life (6.5cm). When I replace the barrel (or have a smith do so) I want to buy the same level or better accuracy. Mine is easily a 1/2” gun as many are, and I don’t want to take a step backward in accuracy. It’s only a paper puncher but I like the bug holes it makes

Thoughts on what barrel to buy? Who in the northeast to do the work

Heaven forbid these places actually advertise that they'll make a Tikka barrel. Not a single word about it on their website, unless I missed it (which is entirely possible).

And it seems Proof is also spinning shouldered prefits too, but not publicly available yet. (Unless I read that wrong...)

Not the word Tikka, but "Any other shouldered barrel that customer has to send in action - Button Barrel - $429-$469 Kreiger Barrel - $629-$669"

John's got a good reputation and is lightning fast.

Viking, I could really use a hand with a question.

The center rifle pictured with the KRG Bravo and 223 mag... what is that magazine? I have an accurate 223 mag in my T3X stainless 223 and while in the Bravo, the mag will *not* stay fully seated upwards... I have to actually apply upwards pressure on the mag or it is too low to feed. Just swapped a week or so ago to the Bravo, but I have got to find a fix. Thanks man.

Hi.

For sure.
That is MDT 223rem polymer AICS magazine.
Work very well on KRG chassis and feed ammo to the chamber with out any problem.
That magazine has MKmachining extension kit on.

Same experience for me. MDT polymer 223 AICS mags. Only thing I did was polish with 320 grit wet sandpaper the portion of the mag that made contact with the mag well in the chassis so that they drop out. These mags are a great value.

What is that cheek pad on the cheek riser? Is it strapped around it via velcro? I can't wait for the new krg bravo with the CTR inlet.

It’s a mini cheek pad by Wiebad. It attaches via Velcro. Only disadvantage I can see is that you cannot fully lower the cheek piece unless you remove it. It just happens to be perfect for me fully bottomed out + cheek pad.

What’s different about the CTR inlet? Thinner barrel channel?

Nice rig .
Who´s barrel you got in your Tikka?

Thank you! The previous owner told me that it was a Kreiger. It’s a 1:8 twist 223, 24” long. A local gentlemen sold me the entire barreled action and trigger set unfired for $825, I believe.

With some purchased 69gr TMK loads, it regularly shot around 1.6” at 300 yards for me. I’ve taken it out to 700 and it’s a great little shooter. Can’t wait to get it threaded for my Sandman s. It’ll be a ball with a can.

PVA re barreled my tikka t3 22-250, 22" med palma, 1 in 8 twist. Did a ladder test and settled on 34.6 grains, 3410fps, 55gr nosler ballistic tip. Tried new win brass, used win brass and new R&P brass. Got the same fps, and same group sizes. Very happy with it, it will make a good coyote rifleP5270008.JPGP5270009.JPG 100yds

I think I found a good load for my 16” Tikka CTR. Cut the factory barrel down
4 rounds

42.3 rl16 - I might try 42.1 because I thought I saw a faint ejector mark on two of the rounds

I don't have to buy AICS mags and continue using the CTR DBM ones. It's not really that big of a deal, but I guess it does save me $60 per mag.

They are talking about doing a Bravo that will take the factory Tikka CTR magazines instead of AICS mags.
It's been discussed ad nauseam in here for over a year and still no sign of it.....

Are you sure that the action is seated over the recoil lug? It looks a bit wonky.

I just dropped it in the other day and it seated up fine, but I’ll take a second look. Maybe I goofed? Thanks.

Edit: It was indeed not seated 100%. Mags fit much better now. While quite embarrassed, I am grateful for the heads up. Probably would not have noticed it until I was behind it next weekend.

Fyi for you TSR-1 guys. The McRees G10 chassis meant for the CTR will lock up and feed with a single stack accurate mag. Thanks @jram for letting me borrow one!
