308 AR10 Build Info/Picture Thread

Not sure how I'm doing.

This is a JP PCS-12 born a 308 but now a 6,5 Creeeedmooore.
Conversion was HELL during COVID, and when you make silly mistakes and re-order takes half a year.
But now it shoots, thanks to a South African and a Swede.

Spuhr mount, Acro 2ndary, S&B 3-27, Ase Utra suppression.

Did some recent Cerakote to make the mount and Acro blend in.

Pretty. Any idea what stock that is? I built my own JP setup with .308 and wish I went 6.5... Is their turn-around really bad right now on barrel kits?

Thanks! The stock is made by Magpul (UBR), I just removed the lid and added the Picatinny for a possible monopod or bad rider.

I don't know about JP's current level. I bought the barrel 2nd hand from a friend who upgraded to a Proof Research.

The Cerakoter did a pretty nice job on it, in my opinion.

So My buddy handed me a bunch of parts and said have fun building your first AR10. Most of it is no name, The barrel measures 24 inches end to end and only says 308 win 1-10 Made in USA. The stock is MagPul. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I guess I could build a shooter and then modify later with better replacement parts. He told me these are LR 308 parts. I have my bolt gun for long range but something for 100 to 500 yds would be fun. He also gave me a bunch of random 308 ammo to go with it so I have an incentive to build a shooter. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Gonna need A LOT more than just that. And you only have the easy parts. 🤠

Yeah but its gonna be so much fun. My concern is not buying my next items that wont work with the barrel and guard. I think hes right and these parts are LR but with no name I am hesitant to spring for the more expensive items.

Aero M5 or M5e1 for your upper and lowers. Those are great to build on in my experiences. Not crazy expensive, but not cheap. Comfortably in the middle... and especially with the large frame AR's, there is no "mil-spec" and it can be a real logistical headache if you go with Manufacturer A for the upper, and B for the lower.

Just picked off a nickel boron Maten receiver assembly from GB last night. Almost certain to be another 6.5 CM, +1 or 2 gas-depending on barrel length. Not sure if the Bartlein carbon AR barrels will be available when I’m ready, or may just wait. Tempted to look at gain twist or possibly Proof carbon. Geissele NM, SLR hand guard, JP SCS, Superlative GB, have some spare Magpul parts lying around. Going with what I know works. Let the games begin.

LR10 6.5 18 in. ballistic barrel, Aero upper, SLR gas block, LMT trigger, LuthAR stock, Leopold 4x12 firedot reticle that I put together and my Weatherby 6.5 DU rifle of the year that I won with a 3x9 Leopold that I got sighted in this past weekend.

Between a little bit of rathole money and a 14 day quarantine, I decided to see what I could throw together for cheap. I have an abundance of 308 ammo and components, and nothing I enjoyed shooting them through. When I saw that CDNN had some random DPMS/Remington/Bushmaster parts floating around, a plan began to formulate.

As it is, I have ordered the following;

DPMS Midnight Bronze Kit with High Rise receiver, lower, CMMG 15" rail and Bushmaster BCG
Bear Creek 20" rifle length 10 twist stainless barrel
Larue MBT2S Straight Bow trigger
Larue RAT Stock and Grip

With all the miscellaneous parts needed to finish it, and a Bushnell Nitro 2.5-10x44 FFP to top it off, I will be into the rifle for less than $1100. Its not a top notch build, and I expect to have some teething issues, but it was intended to be a project. I am not super pumped about a couple of the parts, but they were available and cheap. If it will kill steel and a few pigs, I will be happy.

Finished it just in time to realize I don't like Semi-Auto precision shooting. Worked up a good load with 41.3 gr H4350 and Lapua brass that shoots 1/2 MOA on new brass. Worked up another promising with 42.3gr N555 on Hornady brass that probably needs a bit of leaning out. I am about to put it up for sale - I can't justify having this when I like shooting my 308 bolt more.

Aero M5 Upper and Lower
Criterion 6.5 20" Rifle Length Gas
Superlative Arms Adj Gas Block
Harris Bipod (Old Photo)
PRS Stock
JP High Pressure Bolt (came headspaced to barrel)
Aero Bolt Carrier
Triggertech Diamond
Athlon Cronus BTR
sure looks like green anodized. is it? or is it cerakote? it sure is purdy.

BAD 762 billet receiver set and 15" rail, all done in Titanium Cerakote; Proof Research 16" CFW barrel with intermediate length gas; SLR adjustable gas block; V Seven titanium Furion brake, push pins, receiver end plate, tube nut, grip screw, buffer stop, safety, mag release, fire control pins, etc.; V Seven S7 tool steel bolt catch; Trigger Tech Adaptable adjustable trigger set to 2.75 LB; Vltor A5 lower receiver extension with correct weight .308 spring and recoil buffer; JP LMOS bolt carrier group; SPR pistol grip; Magpul CTR stock and
25-Rd magazine; Kahles K18i in Spuhr SP-3026 mount. Base rifle comes in at 6 LB 14 OZ. Doesn't kick at all. Shoots great.

Here is my contribution! Tried to make a poor man’s M110, but morphed to something better. Started life as a Larue UU Kit. Only thing still left Larue is the upper, hand guard, and bolt carrier.

Dead Air Keymo Muzzle brake
20in BA 6.5C fluted barrel
Harris Bipod
Troy/MBUS pro sights
Ergo suregrip
HK E1 stock
PA SLx 3-18x50 in a Leupold mount

This is my Armalite AR10TAC20. It's nearly stock. I just added a Wilson 2-stage trigger. Initially, I threw a Leopold 3-9 scope on it, then later wanted to try to wring a best 5-shot group out of it, so I put a Vortex Gen 2 Razor on it for a while till I got a lucky group or two. Now it has a Vortex Viper 5-25 Gen 2.

Hey all. I'm working on my first AR build and am searching for the right barrel. My goal is to get this thing shooting 1/2 MOA with handloads and factory match ammo and keep the barrel around $500. At that price point there are just so many options, plus is it really worth it to stretch things to $900 to get a Bartlein from Craddock or a custom from Lilja?

I'm working with an Aero M5 Upper/Lower/Parts Kit, JP SCS, JP LMOS BCG. I've probably started this all wrong and not setup a total budget, but things don't seem so expensive when you're only buying one or two things at a time.....

So much AR10 porn in this thread. I love 'em! Here's mine, I guess it's more of a poor's AR10, but I'm super happy with it. I assembled it with all Aero Precision parts, adjustable gas block, A2 stock, Magpul bipod, and super cheap scope. Maybe one day my form1 will finally be approved and I'll switch out the muzzle device for something more QD for a can.

Mil-spec LR308 charging handles with replacement Badger Ordnance Tactical Latches installed. About $15 each and an easy swap. The LR45 has a similar generic latch that I picked up at a gun show.

.308 DD5 has run well for the first 500rnds. Seems to be moa or better if I can hold still.
I will likely move the scope onto a 20” MWS when that shows.

nothing special but damn does it work. 18”Aero build with FailZero BCG, JP SCS, PA Raptor 1-6, Larue MBT, Magpul furniture and a Socom brake. Did a 50yd zero and I’m calling it good for what it is until I have time to shoot it past the LabRadar and get to a longer range than the 100 I have near me.

Fab Defense stock (currently a Magpul PRS)
CMC trigger (currently Elftmann two stage)
Fail Zero BCG
Superlative Arms adj. .936” gas block
McGowan 26” 1/9 twist bull barrel
PSA rail (currently Centurion Arms)
Altas bipod (no EBay knockoff)
Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25x56 34mm scope
Vortex cantilever mount
Alex Pro 22-250 magazine
Reloaded ammo (55 grain Nosler Varmageddon, 60 grain Sierra HP, 69 grain SMK, 75 grain Hornady ELD all with Varget)

Aero M5 receivers

Larue MBT 2 stage at 3.5lbs
KAC retired Mk11Mod0 rail
Faxon 20" Big Gunner 6.5CM barrel 1:8twist
D-Back Tactical 6-24x50 MRAD

I have probably 6 boxes of ammo through it. Seems to really like 140gn SMKs. I cant get it to shoot worth a shit with the 140gn S&B FMJ even at 100yds. Im sure I have something to do with it. Anyone else have any luck with these Faxon barrels?

@HornDog87

I appreciate it. I have no idea. I found a picture of a rifle that I liked on Tier 1 Defenses page out of New Jersey, and they replicated it. They may know. It was completed mid 2015 and I think still on their Instagram page. Good luck.
