Re: Wil this elev fix work as well as I think? Your calculations look right to me. I was calculating based on your original post which suggested the total holdover on the reticle at 42x was 10 MOA, which means my numbers are a little off.
Re: Wil this elev fix work as well as I think? Or you could just turn the mag down until your reticle subtends the required amount. According to my slide rule that will happen at around 26x. At 12x you should have 35 MOA of holdover on the reticle.
Re: What's the deal with CCW? It doesn't make sense. I have and use both. I think CCW elevation is more intuitive because of the bolt analogy, but I think CW windage is more intuitive because if you were looking at the knob straight on, you would rotate the 12 O'clock position to the right...
Re: how tight? - base & rings If you're going to go through the trouble of buying a torque wrench for this project, you should also pick up a tap to clean out the factory threads. Variances in thread and collar friction will result in different preloads being applied to the screws...
Re: Possibly damaged my scope? I've partially disassembled 3 or 4 scopes before, and have never had any issues resulting from "the gas leaking out". I've had a couple of those same scopes in some wildly varying humidity, temperature, and altitudes, and none have fogged up internally. The...
Re: incorrect? sighting or bad scope mount?or me I know the answer to your question, but first you must solve this riddle: "A woman is as old as the man will be when the woman is twice as old as the man was when the woman's age was half the sum of their present age"
Re: Model 70 opinions I have a pre-64 and a post-64. I kind of prefer the post 64 myself. If I do another build, I'll probably base it on a cheap post 64 action. The breech cuts are simpler on the post 64, with no need for an extractor cut or coned breech. The extractor is just a simple...
Re: Bolt Face Re-size? I think it's easiest to just get a new bolt. A 700 bolt will work fine though. If you can, get one without the anti-bind cut in the right lug, though that would be mostly for the sake of appearance. If you're going to be using the standard 721 trigger group, you'll...
Re: rear lug LRB m1a recieivers? It doesn't give it more strength, but it does give it more bedding area. I don't know if they fit in the Sage stocks or not, at least without modification. I'm pretty sure they'll fit in the JAE stocks.
Re: Where does a fixed 6x fit in? I think you've already got it figured out with subsonic and .22 use. If I got one that's exactly what I'd be using it for. A friend has one of the 6x SS scopes and it has something like 160 MOA of elevation (I didn't verify reticle movement through that...
Re: eye relief question/problem Shooting position comes to mind. Granted, 13" is kind of short on the LOP, but depending on how you're getting behind the rifle, your head position can vary by a few inches. What kind of shooting are you doing? Bench, prone with sling, prone with bipod...
