    22 accuracy expectations ?

Sand bags front and rear! Barricade or prop would be more like my offhand experience this weekend... I was sighting in my new rifle and scope at 50ft and placed 5 rounds in one ragged hole...I was beaming with pride as I hadn't shot smallbore in over a year and was shooting a better standing...

    22 accuracy expectations ?

I would say 1-1.5 is spot on. I tested a variety of ammunition (from cci std to R50 and Eley 10X) shooting 3 x 5 shot groups at 100 yards. My Anschutz 2013 ranged from .56 to around 1.5inch with around a 1.0 average. My 10/22T was around 1.70 as I recall. The three reps of five shot groups of...

March Scope reticle for 4P and Silhouette?

I just purchased my first March scope (2.5-25x42 Compact Tactical) for a new Anschutz 1712 AV. I agonized over reticle choices and went with the MTR-5 over the MTR-4 as only the floating center dot is illuminated. I am absolutely in love with the scope and want to buy more! (close range focus...

    Rifle Scopes Swarovski Z6 scopes...Durability??

I am very happy with my Swarovski Z6I 2.5-15x44 with ballistic turret. I chose it to shave 10oz off of a .338LM for elk hunting vs my NF 3.5-15. Complaints? (other than price!) The plastic illumination switch and caps seem VERY cheap but they do work flawlessly. I worry that it isn't as robust...

Manners Composite Stocks Estimated Lead Times

My Black Friday MCS-T in GAP camo arrived a couple weeks ago. It restored my faith in ordering Manners stocks as it arrived much faster than my last one. It looks great but the double dead fill only added ~1/4 pound. (I was hoping for more weight for my 458 Lott build!)

    ar15 barrel quality experience

RRA usually uses cryo treated Wilsons although they have been running another brand(s) as well. That would be my choice if I'm facing time or money constraints. I suspect they would take it back if it didn't perform. I have/have had many and they have all been incredibly accurate when...

New 338 Lapua Brass Problem... Out of spec?

Thank you Mark23 & b6graham. Brass that is -.002 through -.004 would work in either of the rifles. (TRG42, Defiance Deviant/Bartlein) Unfortunately, my new lot of brass is -.003 through -.008. It works in the TRG42 but only 1/2 of it works in the Custom rifle. Fortunately, this still gives me...

    PortaJohn

Switch Grass (and a variety or other widely touted options) didn't take off for many reasons. (and is the comparison against the corn grain the stover or both?) Corn stover is a arguably a much more realistic if not not cost effective option. The Dept of Energy was pouring money into any...

New 338 Lapua Brass Problem... Out of spec?

I fired identical rounds that had .0045 set back in both rifles. I wasn't able to measure a clear difference in the case head to shoulder junction after firing. The fired brass in the "old" rifle was 2.711 OAL and -.0010 vs 2.726 and +.0025 in the new one. (The new one showed slight primer...

New 338 Lapua Brass Problem... Out of spec?

The headspace has been checked and double checked and allegedly passed the go/no go gauge. I will see if I can figure out how to measure the chamber length. Not sure how long it is and I realize it isn't totally relevant but a 225 Barnes TTSX hits the rifling at 3.642 OAL in the new rifle and...

New 338 Lapua Brass Problem... Out of spec?

The "case gauge" I'm using is the RCBS device that consists of 2 open end cylinders. You drop the case into one and screw down another and read the scale around the outside. The "0" setting should (presumably) be SAAMI. The unfired "old" Lapua brass was usually .002-.003 under and after firing...

New 338 Lapua Brass Problem... Out of spec?

How far under would you expect to still be able to function reliably? How far under would you expect the new brass to be? (.003-.008 under seemed excessive to me)

New 338 Lapua Brass Problem... Out of spec?

Until recently, I hadn't purchased 338 Lapua brass for 10+ years. They varied in weight between lots by several grains but were otherwise very uniform with shoulders set back around .0025. I added another 338 to my collection and purchased 2 boxes of new brass in the hope that they would have...

    Flying with a Bolt Gun

I've had great luck using a hard golf bag case. (SKB I think) It's lockable, has wheels, will hold 3 rifles in soft cases and doesn't draw unwanted attention. I pack clothing around them for added protection and to free up space in my carry on.

Rifle Scopes Opinions on Zeiss 1.8-14x50 Victory V8?

I have a new elk hunting rifle being built and I'm trying to decide what to do for optics. I've been using a NF 2.5-10x32 and I have been very satisfied with it. (To date, I have never had to take a shot over 300ish yards) The new area I plan to hunt will tend to have much longer shots...

    Sidearms & Scatterguns RIA VR80

I had an opportunity to play with one that wasn't working properly. (allegedly wouldn't fire 2 consecutive rounds) They are known for needing some break in time and some seem to have slightly undersized gas ports. I removed a metal bur from one of the gas ports and fired 2 1/2 boxes of shells...

What's your preferred method of bore sighting your scope?

That's a very good point! I've always owned and or had access to rural ground as is the case with all of my shooting friends. Having to contend with range rules that prohibit flexibility would indeed increase the value of a boresighter. I'm sure any of the systems can get the job done. Run...

What's your preferred method of bore sighting your scope?

I never understood the need to purchase a bore sighting device. I probably "waste" 2 rounds without it. Would I be money ahead over time with a boresighter? Maybe. But...If the couple extra rounds that I fire each time I buy a rifle or switch a scope is a financial burden then I have far...
