The Ins and Outs of Eley 22LR Ammo

I have been reading the rimfire forums over here and the rimfire forums over at Benchrest Central. I thought that it might be helpful if I attempted to write down everything I have learned about Eley ammo for the Hiders who are interested in rimfire...

SMACK the SMILEY Summer 2014 - ENTRY OPEN!

Thanks Jason and the sponsors. Wow! I am happy I sent two rimfire targets in. I scored the posted one lower, but decided to send it in anyway. I am obviously proud of winning the RF, but I am more proud of busting 250 on the CF. I don't know how people consistently shoot so well on the CF. I...

SMACK the SMILEY Summer 2014 - ENTRY OPEN!

They are all the same, but you might want to get with Jason. The point of having them marked differently is so that someone who does both doesn't get a sufficient score in say, 2 targets with rimfire, and then they get 6 targets for centerfire.

SMACK the SMILEY Summer 2014 - ENTRY OPEN!

This is my best rimfire + centerfire to date. My CF has been in the 250 range two times in a row. I had replaced a worked over Remington 700 trigger with a Huber 2-stage trigger and I think it has really made the difference. Before that, I had been struggling to get to 200. This time, I hit 250...

    Most reliable 22 LR pistol

For some reason, my Ruger mk II's do malfunction... as has every pistol I have owned. The main problem is with Eley Match, it is not the pip, but the diameter of the nose that causes it to jam in the feed ramp. With CCI Match Pistol, both Rugers are performers. I also have a mag or 2 that has...

Rifle Scopes Scope mount for AR-15.

OP says QD not needed, gets whole bunch of QD responses. If you don't need QD, a set of rings will work great. There are fewer failure points and they will weigh less than buying some sort of mount. You will need to torque to spec from time to time, but that will always be the case. I like...

Sidearms & Scatterguns Knife steels. Which do you like in a folder, fixed?

I have become a steel snob, preferring Japanese super steels to most anything else. VG2 is great, SG2/SGPS is better. ZDP-189 is best. I would love to get something in Cowry X, but I have a hard time finding and affording that steel. It is offered by very few manufacturers. I used to prefer some...

Building an AR, does choice of receivers matter much?

I think the lapping tool is good for uppers that are way off. Will it be as good as a properly set up lathe? No. But there are some uppers out there that have some pretty big high spots on the face to the point that they run out of adjustment on their iron sights trying to sight it in. For those...

Suppressors Petition to remove suppressors from NFA

Honestly, I don't care about the $200 tax stamp. I do care about the 6 - 14 month waiting period.

The Archer and the Arrow - A Discussion

It is very sad that the Remington 40X and Winchester 52D are out of production. We are in an age where rimfire ammo has never been better, but the quality of production rifles has fallen off. I wonder what a 40X would cost if it were being manufactured today... $750? The CZ 452's are nice, but...

No CCI 22 ammo being made, for the near future at least

I would call first. I got there on a Saturday, and when I saw all that ammo, I asked if I had just gotten there at the right time. The store clerk(s) said no, they had this on the shelves for a while now. The hoarder in me wanted to buy it all up, but I have enough for my needs for now. I like...

The Archer and the Arrow - A Discussion

At 4 MOA is there a consistent point of impact? At 100 yards, you could barely fit 2 groups on an 8.5"X11" page.

No CCI 22 ammo being made, for the near future at least

I just bought 4 bricks of CCI Match Pistol off of gunbroker @ less than $10 a box. It used to be around $7, but given the availability of ammo right now, I am happy with it. I was in Victoria, TX the other day at Academy. They had bricks and bricks and bricks of CCI including Green Tag and some...

The Archer and the Arrow - A Discussion

I think it depends on the sport. In USPSA, it is almost all shooter. In benchrest, it is 50% and maybe more the gun and the ammo. Varying shooting sports lean more or less on the shooter. Off-hand shooting, for instance, is all technique. Take that same gun and put it on the bench and you will...

The Archer and the Arrow - A Discussion

I win all of our local 22 matches. I have literally never lost one. I shoot the nicest gear and ammo of anyone at my local matches. Do I win because I shoot the nicest gear or do I buy the nicest gear because I am obsessive about winning? I have always wanted to swap rigs with the next best...

"Smallbore F-Class'" coming soon per NRA!!!

Honestly, I don't like the 100 yard target. I feel like not having an X-ring makes me shoot too "loose." It also gives me less of a point of reference as to where my shots are landing as when there is that extra ring. The wind doesn't give me too much of a problem unless its switchy. That was...
