    Rem SPS varmint stock

I have a B&C medalist A3 on my SPS, however, it weighs in around 42 ounces so its pretty heavy to lug around. I can't find any other drop in stocks that fit the heavy barrel that are much lighter other than the A1 at 37 ounces. Anyone know of a light weight drop that would fit? Short action...

    new .308 brass headspace

I just bought new .308 brass from Winchester for the first time since my spent casing collection ran out. I measured headspace and found many casings at 1.622. This seems excessively under headspaced to me given minimum case headspace is 1.627. My fire formed cases indicate my Rem 700 has a...

    .308 round had a problem

I have probably only shot about 300 rounds out of bolt guns so this issue is a new one to me. After shooting about 30 rounds the other day in my Rem 700 I pulled the trigger and had a round go off weirdly which resulted in a small amount of powder blow back in my face. Looking at the rifle...

Gunsmithing Smoothing a 770 bolt action

My buddy didn't listen to me and so ended up with a 770 scope combo from cabellas yesterday. For $320 I suppose I can't blame him given a limited budget. Anyway the bolt sucks balls. It is hard to slide open and chatters as it is being slid closed. Is there a way to smooth this out. I was...

    .223 primers coming out

Finally getting around to processing some LC once fired and took about 40 rounds to the range yesterday. I'm shooting an AR and the loads are 55 fmj-bt with 25 gr varget (if I recall correctly. I know it's at the bottom end of the load data) and using CCI small rifle primers. While shooting I...

    Rifle Scopes Budget Spotting Scope

The Hide has plenty to say about spotting scopes, but tend to focus on the high end. All I need is to see my shot placement at 200 yards as I rarely have opportunity to shoot longer than that. Any thoughts on a good spotting scope in the $200 range?

    Redding Type S match help

Just starting to reload .308's and got the Redding Type S Match FL kit. Most everything is going well except for one stuck case (RCBS stuck case remover is awesome BTW). One problem though, the neck is not getting the full lenght resized. The bushing is only getting down to about 80% of the...

Load help for .308 Barnes TripleX

I want to load some .308 Barnes Triple-Shock 168 gr. with H4895. The best load data I have found is from Hodgdon and is based off the Sierra 168 gr. HPBT stating start at 41 gr and max 43.5 gr. Anybody have experience with this load, should I go with the Hodgdon data?

    .223 AR freebore

How much freebore do you all recommend on a .223 AR, I'm setup with .020 right now, should I call it good or should I loosen it up a bit? The casing is sitting right at the edge of the cannelure so I can barely see the little ridges (55gr FMJ-BT).

    .223 with H4895

Another newb question that my forum search did not answer... I got some H4895, Winchester small rifle primers, Hornady 55gr FMJ BT, and a metric ass load of LC brass ready to go...finally. So, how should I proceed. So far the best figure I can find was from Hogden saying to start with 25gr on...

what free Hornady bullet to pick

Finally received my Hornady Lock n Load and am about to turn in my form for 1000 free bullets. I only shoot 9mm, .223, and .308 and I have 1k .223 on deck that leaves me with the 9 and .308. Choices they offer are the .308 150 GR SP and GR FMJBT. The end goal is to start pushing my hunting...

    Slam fire and primers

Tired of paying .45 a round for my AR so I have been setting up to reload and been doing my homework. That said, the whole slam fire issue on autoloaders has me a little worried. I contacted Young manufacturing (who made my AR's bolt) and they said with .223 AR's I shouldn't worry as long as...

Rifle Scopes Badger scope ring with Sightron scope question

Pardon my newbness, spent many years behind pistols, shotguns, and AR's; however, never dealt with bolt actions or long range shooting until now and am rapidly finding out there is much for me to learn in the ways of the long gun. So for my first post on the Sniper's Hide... I recently picked...
