Would a sheared barrel index pin bugger up the hole in the barrel extension?

In case anyone was wondering, I'm shipping it back as soon as all this snow clears up. They emailed me saying they would put in a new pin & check it out under warranty. Sent from my WP8 using Tapatalk

Would a sheared barrel index pin bugger up the hole in the barrel extension?

Well I didn't want to put the brand as to not hurt their reputation or whatever until they respond to my email, but it is a well known brand. It wasn't cheap though, a little more than $300 shipped. 18" SPR SS, 223 wylde chamber, 1:8 twist. I had ordered the barrel last summer though and...

Would a sheared barrel index pin bugger up the hole in the barrel extension?

Well the proper torque is 30 ft-lbs to 80ft-lbs including the GI armorer's wrench, so the actual torque specs are a little higher because the extra length of the GI wrench. I used my torque wrench @ 90* to the crowfoot wrench so the actual torque applied to the nut is still a max of 80 ft-lbs...

Would a sheared barrel index pin bugger up the hole in the barrel extension?

Yea I mean I really hope after I put a pin in it, that there won't be any slop in the extension hole for the pin. I'm crossing my fingers that it only wiggled back and forth because it got deformed and the hole didn't get deformed. But if there is any play I'll probably have to order a new upper...

Would a sheared barrel index pin bugger up the hole in the barrel extension?

Long story short on my ar15, somehow after torquing my barrel nut to 80ft-lbs (at 90* to the crowfoot wrench) to get the screw holes lined up the index pin on my barrel began to shear/distort enough that the barrel rotated in the upper receiver and prevented the bolt from closing (bolt lugs hit...

    Comments on Spikes Tactical SBRs?

I've personally never shot a full spikes build, but I have owned a couple parts such as their receivers, bcg, and other minor things. I still want one of their jolly rogers lowers with the "Parlay/Arrgh/Plunder" safety markings! But between me and my buddies that have a few spikes parts as well...

Cabine buffer & Spacer vs Rifle buffer...

Haha thank you ORD, thats what I was looking for. I can't help but think though if the weights were equal, than the tungsten powder would feel more "smooth" than the weights in those ridiculously priced $14 rifle buffers! Although that does lead me to another question, would the reason a heavier...

Cabine buffer & Spacer vs Rifle buffer...

So I've been planning on switching to a PRS stock, and thus need a rifle buffer/tube. I already have a Spikes ST-T2 buffer that I really like, and found out RRA makes a spacer to use a carbine buffer/spring in a rifle buffer tube so my question is would it be better to use a ST-T2 & that spacer...

Clamp on vs Set screw gas blocks...

Nah it's round, well at least from this picture it appears to be. Only the top has the notch. After looking at the measurements the VLTOR is .600 from the center bore to the bottom and the guard is .675 so that'd be .075 of clearance...

Clamp on vs Set screw gas blocks...

Yea I had read a while back about the stress points and such with set screw gb's but I didn't know if that actually degraded accuracy enough to actually measure, so I just stuck with a clamp on. I was looking at the GB-2CS from Vltor, does anyone have the height measurements for one of their...

Clamp on vs Set screw gas blocks...

So I planned on using a 15" PXT FFSSR handguard but it doesn't appear my YHM clamp on gas block is going to fit underneath it using my awesome picture measurement skills. So, my real question is there really a measurable accuracy difference between a clamp on and a set screw style gas block? My...

Rifle Scopes Primary Arms scopes ?

I don't have any complaints, I'm a big fan of PA. I've bought a blem AA red dot, the 3-9x40 & 4-16x44 scope and loved all of them for the price point. The customer service from Marshall is also fantastic, if you did have any problems he'd definitely fix it. Sent from my RM-820_nam_att_100...

    NM/RRA Free Float Barrel Sleeve?

Awesome, thanks for the help! I think I'll probably attempt it after Christmas and I figured if I don't like the end result I can always sell the FF tube anyways and go the more traditional route. This particular rifle will mostly be shot off a bench so it shouldn't get very heavy use anyways.

    NM/RRA Free Float Barrel Sleeve?

Anyone have any experience with the various FF barrel sleeves out there for AR15s? I really like the look of my FDE MOE handguard but I recently switched out my cheap skinny FN barrel for the 18" SPR Match Rainier Arms barrel and would like to get the most out of it that I can with a FF hand...

Gunsmithing Cleaning a old barrel with SS Rod, Vinger, and electricity...

Ah thank you cal50, that was definitely a lot more helpful. I may just rig something up to run at about ~1/4V instead of using the fashlight, I would hate to etch the inside of the barrel. I have another mosin I'll probably try it on first since the bore in this mosin is already pretty nice, if...

Gunsmithing Cleaning a old barrel with SS Rod, Vinger, and electricity...

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with cleaning an old C&R barrel using this method? Making the Surplus: Homade Electronic Bore Cleaner Basically stick a SS rod through the bore, use rubber washers to create a water tight seal while not letting the rod ground out with the bore, fill...

Gunsmithing Is Silver Solder good enough for a Mosin bolt handle?

Yea I was researching it a little further and was getting quite confused with the term "1100* Silver Solder" yet somewhere else I read the difference between solder & brazing is at 840* (brazing being the higher of the two). I think I'll just try my hand at brazing it, since it seems I shouldn't...

Gunsmithing Is Silver Solder good enough for a Mosin bolt handle?

I've never silver soldered anything before, and since boltman has like a 3 month wait I was wondering would it be possible to silver solder the bolt handle from Rock Solid Industries onto a mosin nagant bolt body? I was thinking maybe I'd drill & tap a spot on the bolt body and drill the bolt...

Gunsmithing How hard is it to modify a rimmed bolt to accept a rimless cartridge?

Well I really haven't narrowed down any calibers or if I'd rather just stick with 54R. It did seem like a fun little project to have a 6.5 Grendel though, I found that the grendel has a 0.4449" rim and 0.378" in the "groove". I'm thinking this is a bit smaller than the 54R, would the bolt head...

Gunsmithing How hard is it to modify a rimmed bolt to accept a rimless cartridge?

Just wondering if anyone has ever done it or theoretically how hard would it be to modify a bolt (91/30 for this example) for a rimmed cartridge to use a rimless cartridge? Would the bolt be the least of your worries, or the hardest part?
