I went through NRA Insurance and $18,000 worth of coverage is about $180 per year. Cheaper than adding to my Homeowner's Policy.

I shoot Berger 185 VLDs out of 22" & 24" barrels with 1:10 twist over 43.9 gr. IMR 4064. Very pleased with performance to 1000 yards. COAL 2.86.

I have two DTA SRS A1s and they are great and very accurate. Fit people with shorter arms and takes a while getting used to working the bolt so close to your face. Good luck!

I never clean the copper out of my barrels until accuracy fades-usually after 400-500 rounds, which few people will shoot over the lifetime of their hunting rifles. My son and I easily shoot over 1000 rounds a month over our four rifles.

Kahles 6-24X should work perfectly with both barrels. I think you'll love it!

I love my TBAC 338LM BA suppressor, which is very light for it's size and gives little POI shift.

I have 2 DTA SRS A1s in 260, 308 and 338LM, as well as the new AIAXMC 260 & 308 and AI AT folder in 260 & 308. Both are phenomenal quality and have great triggers. I like the SRS length the best, but do feel the AI quality, mag capacity and 2 stage trigger is better. At their present price...

However you slice it, 338LM is expensive to shoot and recoil and concussion from muzzle break makes for uncomfortable day without a suppressor! Too many other good SA calibers will accomplish about the same distant much more economically and enjoyably.

Sounds interesting, but my hand loads do fine out to 1300 yards and I'm sure my personal loads will be a lot cheaper!

I have 2 DTAs, which are great and compact, but recently bought the new AI AXMC 308 with 260 conversion and the new AI AT 308 with 260 conversion. Actually, like the AI AT the best for $2500 less, leaving more money for quality scope and ammo for practice. If you plan to do a lot of hunting...

The more versatile​ of the 2 scopes would be the Steiner. Nough said!

Perfect advice for what you're wanting to do. For 308 you'll need minimum 175 gr. SMK, or if you reload, 185 gr. Berger offerings. I use the Berger 185gr. VDLs for 1000 yards or more.

Agree with others. 400 degrees might weaken the cases and lead to issues. The sun usually quickly does the job for me in AZ, but a hair dryer or 20 minutes in the oven at 125 degrees works well at night!

Can't go wrong with the Tikka T3 and I frequently see them for sale here on the Hide for decent prices. Good starter rig to ease you into LR shooting! Don't put yourself down. We all had to start somewhere, when we got the LR shooting bug. :cool:
