I've got a Bartlein 6.5mm barrel (stamped .256, .264) and dies on order already and was planning on ordering a reamer, headspace gauge and pilots today but am not sure which pilots to order. I was considering ordering the set from PTG which consists of: .257, .2568, .2566, .2564, .2562 and .256 and just calling it a day. Does this sound like it should work??

Re: 6.5mm Super L/R S Pilots

If I'm not mistaken, PTG would go .2558 on the bushing. It's best to call them though. .2560 would be the land to land distance and .2640 the groove to groove distance. Obviously you want the smaller dimension and then add the running clearance for the bushing.

Order the tooling with 1-nominal bushing and two up, two down. It would appear as follows;

.2556", .2558", .2560" .2562" & .2564"

The .2560" would be the nominal

Re: 6.5mm Super L/R S Pilots

If it were me:

I've bought every pilot PTG makes from 17 to 338 in .0002" increments. It was a hefty investment. If gun plummin is what you like to do, buy the whole lot of 6.5 pilots and be done with. Having and not needing is far better than not having it on a Sat afternoon or a long weekend and being stuck.

Then buy another caliber as it presents itself.
