AR Comp and Pro 2000 MR Range Report

Figured I'd show the baseline Varget workup next to it. There were a few flyers in there, but generally noted and spotted. The graph lines are at exactly 1/2 inch, and all groups were measured with calipers to outside edge with a .307 subtraction to obtain center to center group size. Chrono did mess up a few times, but I verified its accuracy on some FGMM.

Rifle was a Savage 10 FCP-K with just a lightened triggger and Karsten cheekpiece, otherwise 24 inch barrel, 1/10 twist, bone stock!

Nicely done sir. Looking at your 2000MR groups, POI is about the same. The 45.7 load looks like the scatter group. If going by the OCW method, generally 1-2% above the scatter group is a node, usually a good OCW. 1% more of the 45.7 is 46.16gn. That's pretty dang close to your 46.2. I'd say you found it. And as you get hotter, the POI stays the same.

Indeed thanks! I'm thinking the AR comp can move hotter for sure, the velocity just wasn't matching book, while the 2000 definitely was exceeding. Got different glass coming in though, so I guess we will see how much shooter error was there.

The 2000MR is my go-to load as of right now. I've got it fine tuned to (ended up coincidentally) 46.2 grains seated .010 off lands. The savage is really liking it, and with the velocity sitting just under 2750, with an ES (now that I'm deburring and uniforming flash holes) under 20. Here is a pic of my final load group in prep for the Rockcastle shoot next weekend. 5 rounds, I shot 4 foulers immediately before hand. She's holding .4 moa to 225 (as far as I can easily shoot around here) with VERY little vertical spread. And yes, the squares are 1/2 inch.

I think you were onto another node with the 47.7 grain load. Maybe try a couple tenths lower? I haven't done a temp sensitivity test yet. So maybe this load would work well, just not in the middle of summer?

Now that I look at it, that may very well be the case. I may try a few loads up in the 47.4-6 range and see what that brings. The 47.7 only gave me a sticky bolt on one or two of the rounds, so a bit below that may indeed show a bit of promise. I'll be chrono'ing my loads this winter as well for a comparison.

A minor tip with 2000mr. It's burn profile is a bit weird. I noticed mild ejector marks starting with my lowest loads, and I was freaked that I was already overpressured, but was not. Pay attention to bolt handle and primers, but a shellholder really helped me keep an accurate eye on pressure signs. Just basically saying that those ejector marks seem to be inherent to the powder, and aren't indicative of pressure. Use other methods.

I'm not rally sure what you mean by look out for ejector marks. Do you have a pic so I know what you mean and what to look for?

I'm loading up my last 50 rounds tonight for the Rockcastle shoot, so I'll see if I can't find a case to take a picture of. Basically you'll see an round embossing on the case head around the rim of the primer that wasn't there before. It is where the ejector would normally grab the base of the empty shell, but it will look like someone took a round steel punch and lightly tapped it into the base of your shell.

I've got another thread on the 2000 MR and 190 SMK's. I shot what I perceived as a warmish load in 100* F the other day. The brass and primers look as if I were shooting minimum loads. No primer flattening or cratering, no ejector marks, no difficult blot lift...nothing.
