I bought a used Savage 10 in 308. Looks like it has been used very little. Is there any thing I should do before firing it to maintain accuracy and longevity?

thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.

Re: Barrel prep?

I'd treat it was like new and break it in. Since it's likely been shot a little you can probably skip a real detailed break in. I'd fire one 1 shot group and clean, one 2 shot group and clean, 3 shot etc. Be sure to clean with a bronze brush which has a brass center to avoid scratching the barrel. I always break in and clean barrels with the benchrest shooter's favorite, Shooter's Choice.

Re: Barrel prep?

Um don't break it in. Just clean it good to get any old crap out of it and then go shoot it. Break in is unnecessary, even more so for something that has rounds through it already.

Re: Barrel prep?
