Can a R700 LA readily accept a .308?

My buddy said he might trade in his R700 30.06 for a .308 instead but I told him he could just have it re-barreled to save some cash.

It's (obviously) a Long-action, however would there be any other mods to the BDL mag system to go from longer '06 rounds down to .308 or it it ok to just let them float around a bit in the longer box mag?

I shoot a M24 clone rifle and it is long action shooting 308 rounds. No mods necessary HOWEVER, you need to make sure the 308's are pushed all the way back so when the bolt is back it will catch the rim of the cartridge when you push it forward. Failure to do that and when you push the bolt forward it will over ride the cartridges in the mag and you will have a empty chamber.
