Help with ballistic AE

I use ballistic AE for all my rifles and most of the time it’s withen at least 1-2 moa at the most except with my .260 it is always extremely off like 5-10moa off.

I have used the calculator for first round hits at 1k using 223 and first round hits out to 850 shooting 6.5grendel/308/7-08ai etc.

This weekend I was shooting out to 1k using both my 223 and 260 and had good calls using the 223. But the call it gave for my 260 was around 33moa when true drop was 27.25 moa@1k 2 back to back hits on 1 gallon milk jugs.

So what’s up with that? I’ve chronographed my load@10ft for a velocity of 2660.

The specs of the load/rifle:
Dpms Lr 260 24” 1:8.5
Load: 140gr hornady BTHP
41.5gr h4350
243win brass
CCI lrp

When I true my velocity using ballistic AE it gives me a MV of almost 3000fps which I know is wrong. Can anyone make since of this?

ditch that shitty app and get ballistic arc.

i don't know who developed that app or who the guy is that promotes it but he's a giant ass clown. long story.

ballistic arc is 10x better

(aside from that - double check EVERYTHING - garbage in - garbage out)

Ballistic AE is the most accurate app I've used for dope actually. Strelok Pro no matter what i do is always a tenth more (and off)

I’ve doubled triple checked the dope is good for everything except 260 what the hell man it’s been like that for ever with this rifle/load.

altitude and pressure are quite a bit different and may make an impact. I'd check those and rerun

Those are the numbers it pulls up when I push the locate button.

Correct me if I’m wrong but if it was the altitude and pressure wouldn’t the dope for all my rifles be off?

basically your software is saying you zeroed the gun at 591' then you went to sealevel. And you're asking it how much to hold when firing at sea level. I highly doubt you're at 0' altitude unless youre on a boat or at the beach... Input the correct altitude and pressure where you are actually shooting after you zero the gun at 100 yards so that the zero altitude and the current altitude match.

When I updated it changed by 1 minute at 1k my real world dope was only 27.25.

Only other things is I'd say your zero is high. Go shoot it at 100 and see where it's at. Also what scope are you using? There could be some tracking error that gets amplified the more you dial.

Is the gun grouping good? If not there may be other issues, loose scope rings etc. These calculators are usually pretty good.

Last time I shot the gun at 100 yards i shot 4 5 round groups all were under 1moa with the largest right at 1moa and the smallest around .79” and good on elevation and wind. I shot a group at 650 yesterday that was around 5-6”.

I never thought of about the scope haveing issues. I have a vortex viper PA 6.5-20x50.

It seems to track well at 100 yards but now I’m going to test it and measure exactly how it’s tracking that could easily be the issue all along. This is the only gun that is extremely off and has never been true.

Yea I'd dial 30 moa and see if it actually impacts the 30.5" high or whatever it should be in inches. Let me know what you find.

Well I got around to testing my scopes tracking and that seems to be the issue. I doped 30moa and bullet impact was 33.25”. I’ll be contacting vortex for warranty work. Thanks for the help.
