Hi everyone just a little knowledge need here I understand about station Pressure being the Pressure of ones location So with that we take a reading and enter the data on our PDAs etc and I was told that is all you need to do,,,,and NOT Adding the ALT.

But I did that and I got a different MOA come up so I then added 13.8*deg f to the balance and it changed again AS expected BUT then I added 40ft of ALT and it changed again, So if we use the station Pressure being our ZERO should we add the ALT or not Because many shooters have told me that you dont add that because our station pressure Zero???

So by Adding the alt are we adding 2 zeros to the mix, I have the BARO and the ALT unsynced that way the ALT does not change the Baro reading in order for it always to read Station Pressure and the REF ALT is Set to 0 and I have the REF BARO set to 29:92.

Standard setting 29.92hg 59*f and 0 alt = 34.47moa /10.0 Mrad /360.98" 138 clicks
First I Changed the Pressure to 29.87 and Read the Come ups= 34.42moa then I changed the Temp from 59*f to 72.8 and then Read the come ups=32.61moa, So then I changed the alt from 0 to 40ft = 30.73moa.

So does this mean if you change the ALT thats a MISS??

Thanks guys,

John

Have you referenced NK's help reference guide or the manual on this subject. See Alt_Baro_3 for a good overview of the subject. You'll need to provide a reference barometric pressure or altitude as described in the manual to provide a known reference point for tracking as discussed in the manual. The instrument tracks station pressure and needs one or the other reference to calculate the balance.

Yes I have done that but on their sites they say to get the Absolute/Station Pressure you have to set the Ref Alt to Zero, Station Pressure is totally different to Barometric Pressure because Barometric Pressure is Adjusted for Altitude which is only used by the Weather Liars so the whole country understands, Absolute/Station Pressure it the True Unadjusted Pressure for any given place regardless of the Altitude.

I have spoken to people on LRH and they say you dont put in the ALT when you are Using the Absolute Pressure.

That's true. If you're just going to use absolute pressure for shooting calculations, use 0 for the altitude so no other corrections are made. Just be aware that if you want to use these features for other things a reference is needed.

The reason you should use the Absolute Pressure is if you use that at the Range to Zero and make up your tables you can do the same out in the field and not have to worry about the Altitude or if you are half way up a mountain you dont have to workout your elevation IE when your going hunting and you phone up the local weather station for the Borometer reading by the time you get to your hunting patch things could of easily changed so you end up with the wrong Pressure reading for your Location so you dont have to worry about looking up the Altitude on Topo maps or trying to get an Average from a GPS. So you can just grab your gear and go.

Thanks for confirming that I thought I was going nuts for a minate, Using Absolute Pressure is proberly the best way for our gentlemen that are posted overseas seeing as they have other things on their minds so it makes alot of sence really,

My watch for some reason always gives Absolute Pressure and if I zero the Alt the sea level setting changes but seeing as I only use them both for shooting I dont have to worry about setting them up for other things,
