Rifle Scopes I'm so tired of Butler Creek

You guys that break the BC covers are lucky... I can't never keep them bastards long enough to break them. I've lost at least 8 to 10 of them thru the years trapsing thru the sticks. I don't buy them anymore because their junk and I loose them. I've gone to tie wraps and bikini covers instead.

$100 for covers that won't break with a warranty on my $2600 scope? I couldnt throw my money at you fast enough!

Not at this quality level. For example, the springs I'm using are large, strong, 270 degree springs made from stainless. They alone cost $5 each. I could use cheaper springs that aren't as strong, only flip 180, or will rust to save a few bucks. And that's just the little spring, you're still missing the entire rest of the cover. Don't get me wrong, if eventually there are orders in the thousands in each size the price could come down some, but for now they cost what they cost. If it was easy to make something of this quality at such a low price I think many others would already be doing it.

$100 for a reliable scope cap for my $2k Nightforce 56mm? Where can I send the EMT? I will drop cash right now if you bring them to market.

Thanks, those are way too big but I'll see if that manufacturer offers something in a size that will work. The price seems to vary a lot depending upon how commonly used it is. But I am looking.

Hopefully I'll have the PST's ready to go in about a month. My plan is to let people know here when they're ready for a particular scope, so just stay tuned.

The threaded eyepiece doesn't stop you, but it would give the rest of us another option.

Agreed, Alumina rules the roost. I should camp out in the warehouse sometime and try Aluminas on some other scopes and see what has compatible thread pitch. Shouldn't take more than a few months.

I've been trying to solve the riddle of the perfect scope cover for years. I was done with the design phase and looking to see what the best production (milling caps out of aluminum or polymer injection molding) method would be, then I saw tenebrax has a product very similar to mine and I quit, but i've only seen those caps on a few products and i'm unable to get in touch with anyone at tenebrax

Jon- looks like you'd have a good sized line with just the several of us who have posted in this thread. Like I said, any alternatives would be worth a shot at this point.

There's nothing really that special about these--they simply do the job and they're really, really, tough. A word of warning if I do put these on the market--they won't be cheap. I have no desire to compete price-wise with companies that poop parts out of molds in China by the tens of thousands. These probably cost me a good 10-20X as much to make as it does the BC's so they will be priced accordingly--probably around $50 each. However they are so well built and tough I think I'd be able to safely put a lifetime replacement warranty on them.

Anybody interested?

I buy quality as many here do, every optic needs covers, who wants to purchase a new SnB and then throw on some shitty buttler creeps? I have had almost every pair of BCs I have owned die on me.

I just spent $3700 on a new S&B scope and second time out to the range with the scope, both front and rear caps broke off. I was pissed to the say the least. I am annoyed that S&B continues to use Butler Creek caps on their scopes. It's second tier brand on a top tier scope. In my opinion it tarnishes their reputation to put a sub par scope cap with their scopes.

Now I'm in the market for new scope caps. I'll have to take a closer look at the aluminas.

Buy a set of Tenebraex for the S&B, these are the caps these scopes should​ come with.

Jon, add another customer to the list! The price tag might be hard to swallow, but if the damn things actually work and you can guarantee them, I can live with $50 a pop. I typically only break the BC oculars. If I make the mistake of throwing the sling over my shoulder while the ocular is open..... It's trashed. Your 270 degree design alone will solve my problem with BC. The durability of the material will be a great secondary prevention. Most likely I'll never need your guarantee, but if you offer it I will certainly be less hesitant to part with the cash. The guarantee would be the difference between me replacing BC's as they break and replacing all my BC's before they break.

Only works for the front but,
It's always on.
Never has to be opened.
Not too expensive.
Comes in most any size.
Needs no extra clearance.

Hey Jon A,

I have 2 of your mounts and think they are the bees knees...I'm certain these covers will adhere to your self-imposed quality standards.
I am of the opinion that $50 for piece of mind on a high dollar scope is money well spent.

You thinking about including the Bushnell Elite 3.5-21x50 ERS in that rollout? Need any measurements?

I have a Viper PST 6 to 24 X 50mm (actually two of them) and don't really like either flip up covers or the type held on by a small bungee cord. What I like is screw in covers, but the Viper PST only has threads in the front (objective) and not in the rear (eyepiece), so I bought 52mm camera screw in covers made out of METAL for the fronts for about 4 bucks off of Ebay (The threads are the same as for most 52mm camera lens covers). If you have a local camera store that isn't too expensive, you might want to chek there for some covers. For the rear end, I just took apart the covers supplied with the scope by Vortex and sort of "rewired" the bungees so that I use ONE of the two bungees to hold the rear cover on and only hook it around the turret(s) to hold that one on. I wish I could use a screw in on the rear, but there are no threats there......
