Contemplating both. Gonna sell a rifle and buy two to put on other carbines. I can't shoot with red-dots past 200 m as my ability to see small objects with uncorrected vision isn't quite what it used to be 20 years back (and the dots are 4 MOA).

Be advised, I go to school at U. of N. Colorado, and can walk to the Burris manufacturing facility. I'm 10 min by car to their HQ. I'm not crazy about glass made in the P.I., but I looked through some today and was surprised at the clarity. Looks like a great scope, if a little heavy for a carbine.

I'm still tempted by Leupold. Prices are about the same. Warranty same. BDC = same. Weight on Leupold is 5 oz lighter!

What are your thoughts?

Thought hard about the Weaver scope.

It's so bright it hurts your eyes. One astonishing piece of glass on a relatively inexpensive (i.e. not $1800) scope.

May give that a whirl. They got a bullet drop comp dealie on there? Ain't there some kind of a "tac" version that I can quickly adjust knobs at my club's steel dogs match?

+ 2 on the SS. I just put the 3x9x42 on my carbine and all I can say is wow! IMHO the best bang for your buck. At the end of the day, it all comes down to your eyes and what they like for you.

I had a fullfield II with the bdc reticle and I have a leupold mark ar, not really happy with either. Super Sniper and the bushnell 10X are the cheaper ones I have been happy with.

If it's going on a carbine maybe a 1-4? Millet DMS, Leatherwood CMR, Nikon 223, couple others out there for not a lot of money.

This is a little troubling.

Perhaps you could highlight why you're unhappy - is it the glass? I think the Mark AR is VXII quality. The thing that's attractive is the BDC - just dial your distance and you're done.

The Nikon M-223 is VERY attractive as I am sure it will have Nikon's usually stellar glass.

Read one shitty review on Amazon about an experienced shooter who had one with hysteresis issues - as he'd turn the zoom, they POA would shift badly and the rifle never shot better than 8 MOA!

He returned it.

I am scared of buying a scope in this range. I have a Falcon Menace 4x14x44 FFP that is TITS. Clear as a bell and repeatable and accurate. I could do another smaller Falcon (it weighs about a 1986 Olds Cutlass on top of my already heavy Rem 700 PSP) but I am hearing weird shite about the quality.

There is a thread active right now about "tapping" your scope (no, not THAT tapping

) The Fullfield II will give you plenty of opportuity to get good at that. Dialing one of those was a nightmare.

Have you looked at one? Nikon HAD legendary glass IMHO. The models I've looked through in the last couple years were from average to bad.

In this price range, I'd be looking hard at a Vortex Viper. Great mechanicals vs. competition. You may still be able to find one in stock with their Dead Hold BDC.

Mark AR, Burris just aren't that great. Okay for a "coyote" scope but beyond that look elsewhere. I guess if you had to pick one I would say the Mark AR or one of the Nikon M223 scopes. If you're willing to spend a bit more the cheap leupold w/spr reticle isn't bad, I know of one guy who uses it on a PTR91 and loves it.

edit: I guess I shouldn't say cheap, it's 650. If you get into that price range you might as well get a used ACOG or an IOR 1-4 off samplelist, I think they had 3 of them last I looked.

I have a 3-9 MarkAR and am satisfied with it for the price paid. It is quite bright and tracks just fine. I use it for hunting on a AR and have no complaints.

You see, THIS is the kind of advice I like. Frank, honest, and I suspect accurate.

BTW I started that goofy thread about me and my odd "adjust windage, tap on the turret three times, say a rosary and throw some salt over your left shoulder while knocking on wood" behavior at the range.

Ahhh, life with cheapo scopes.

Re: Leupy Mark AR 3x9x40 or Burris Fullfield II Tac?

I used to have a Mark AR on my AR15. It was probably one of the best buys that I have ever made. The turrets track perfect, the glass bright and clear, and the clicks are audible and tactile. I actually like the turrets over my NF even though they are smaller. They just "feel" better to me because the clicks give more feedback. But that's a personal preference. I only sold it because I sold my AR.

One gripe that I do have is that it does not have parallax adjustment. Might want to consider that.
