Picked up a Hornady Auto Progressive press from a Hide member. Naturally spherical powders flow the best and most accurately. However, I though I would ask members to share their experiences, success stories, using Hornady powder measures with a variet of powders such as:

Re7, 10, 15, 17
Varget
H322
H4198
H4895
Benchmark

I shoot .204, .223, 6.8 SPC, and .308 and have been hand measuring each charge. I really looking forward to use my progressive for high volume production of quality loads. I know it's likely I'll have to sacrifice a little performance, because of the wider variances and safety, but that okay.

Any and all input appreciated.

Thanks,

John

IMR 8208xbr flows and meters like a ball powder, temp stable, several other positive features .308 ( 155-175GR).223 ( 75-80GR). maybe 6.8 I have not shot

Re: LNL Progressive - best flowing powders?

Using a nice smooth stroke on the press handle has netted me some pretty consistent charges on my LnL AP. I have only used RL22 and I4064 for the stick powders on it.

4064 is a little better than RL22, but they're both pretty big kernels and take some time and care getting setup and assimilated with when switching from a ball powder.

Flake stuff like Unique is finicky to dial it in because the charges are so light that 0.2gr of fluctuation makes a diffference sometimes, so I backed off a couple of my loads for safety sake.

With ball powders it runs like a dream, which you've probably already found out.

How you operate the handle when charging a case does make a difference with powder charges. So when you load don't forget to make a consistent pull each time.

I've had good success with W748 lately and loaded ~100 rounds the other day using 26.5 gr W748 under a LC 55gr FMJBT in Centurion M193 cases with CCI400 primers. Came out with an SD of 20 and an avg FPS of 3035 from a 20" BCM AR15 upper.

I have yet to bother with any heavier loads using stick powders. I will try some soon and report back.

Re: LNL Progressive - best flowing powders?

Not a lot of specifics so far. Hope this helps...

I have used Rl15 and Varget in my LNL measure. My target load with RL15 is 43.2 grain (for N/S FGMM brass 175SMK 2.810 BR2 primer). 90% of the time it will throw between 43.1 and 43.2 with the occasional 43.3 grain charge. This load will typically yield .6" groups out of my stock 5R.

Varget is similar +-.1 grains.
