The last big herd was killed in Canada near the red river by a tribe. There was never a US government or a military policy to eradicate the buffalo. That may be the most oft repeated lie in Aemrican history. It's all based on one guy saying that he heard general Sherman say it in Texas in around 1880. The problem was that Sherman was never in Texas within a decade of that claim being made. He was lying. Nobody else ever claimed to have heard such a speech either. All of those guys had stenographers that wrote everything they said, and it never happened. There was never a government policy or a military directive to do anything to the buffo. Even the guys who were doing the killing never had any idea they were killing them off. They all believed there were millions more out there wandering around. See, white guilt has been around for a long time, and people enjoy this self-flagalation so much that they'd rather keep repeating the lie than researching the truth.

The most boring, uninteresting people on earth often live to old age, while people who are really pushing the envelope often don't. I always thought about the proportion of idiots in any swath of any demographic and it's pretty obvious that there are significantly more old idiots than old people with any damn sense, just like every age group.
