Re: OCTOBER 2011 SH SHORT RANGE RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

First time I've shot one of the rimfire competitions. I think I did alright for a first timer. I learned a lot. I need to get a rear bag, and once my barrel gets warmed up, Its pretty much dead on. I also need to print off two copies of the targets so I can have one to look for a reference to the course of fire.

I might have done a little better if I had dialed my 25yrd dope on the top 3 bulls, lesson learned for next time.

Re: OCTOBER 2011 SH SHORT RANGE RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

Here's my entry for the tactical match. I'm using the scaled up target (please see thread Printable targets) and shooting at 50 meters.

My Annie seems to throw the CBS up and to the left, and CBS+1 down and to the left. Last month I was anticipating that and adjusting my POA accordingly. Now I didn't adjust, since I want to gather some data on CBS POI. Holding off some indefinite amount is kind of counter-productive to that.

So after first to stages I was down 35 points.

After stage 2 I observed that my POI was a bit above centerline, so I adjusted my POA a hair for the rest of the stages. I actually wanted to do that earlier, but since stage 2 is quite easy I didn't. I guess I have to do a few dot drills and re-zero.

During stage 4 the wind almost got me, but since I had blown the target with CBS and CBS+1 ("double or nothing" attitude...), and felt confident after stage 3, I took also the 30pt shot while the wind was easing up.

When I filled the mag for stage 5 I knew I was toast. The wind was blowing downrange and switching directions (as far as I can tell). Somehow I managed to find the moments when it was not switching, and was very satisfied hitting the bad guy while holding for wind. The vertical spread may be my anxiety getting the shots off, I remember my position kind of stretching forward during the stage.

Re: OCTOBER 2011 SH SHORT RANGE RIMFIRE COMPETITIONS

Its been some time since I posted a score here, June possibly.
It's not like I'm not at the range. Rather don't have time while at the range.
July, had two appleseed weekends plus relaitives visiting.
August, Relatives still, Women on target,
Sept, three appleseed weekends.
October two weekends of Public sight in day for hunting season. Honeydo's getting overwhelming.
Now that hunting season is on, I can do some shooting! Laughing at all my freinds up in the hills chasing elk. On opening day I sat around the reloading room making ammo. Grilled a new York steak for lunch. I kinda like beef!

Had a perfect target going until I missed the small dot on stage 4. I took my anger out on the first hostage in the final stage, hopefully they can reconstruct that missing ear.

Stage 3: 50/50
Stage 4: 0/65
Stage 5: 50/60

Total score: 175/250

Notes: 1/8th inch above the small dot killed stage 4 (for the second month in a row, Hit it my second attempt just screwing around). Second time using the new CMP 40-x and this month seemed to have some vertical stringing (prob me and not adjusting the paralax perfect.) Same score exactly as last month, but I am fervently seeking that clean. Maybe next month.

That little 30 pt dot is a sun of a gun to hit.

Regards,
DT
