Re: Savage Finally Done!!

Nice looking build...only thing I'd add is one of Kevin Rayhills (Stockade Stocks) bolt handles...$35.00 and an easy swap on a Savage.

What rings are you planning on using?

Re: Savage Finally Done!!

I have a set of steel low MK4's that I will throw on the NF. With those rings it leaves just enough space for the 50mm bell and a butler creek cap.

I might get a different bolt handle sometime, but for now this one is working great. I couldn't be more happy with it. Lets just hope it shoots as good as it looks!!!

I actually only got to shoot it for about an hour that day before we had to leave the range due to a tornado warning. I guess I picked a pretty crappy time to head out that day. I'll see if I can find any of the targets laying around and post them.

But from the groups I did get out, she looks very promising. They weren't bug holes by any means but still pretty good for 25-40 mph gusts and heavy rain. I think the best groups it pulled was about .6in ctc from 100m. But most were right at .75-.8ctc. Definitely a sub moa gun. Which is good enough for its intended purposes. Pretty descent for what it is though I think. It's in the mail right now to Hooper again to see if he can make her shoot any better.

I get to try this baby out again when I get back home!!

If it was shooting good and functioning smoothly... I would have considered leaving it alone.

Re: Savage Finally Done!!

It functioned well as far as chambering rounds but it was kind of difficult to get used to loading the magazine when it was tilted like that. Also it was very difficult to get a full mag to insert without the bolt back. Plus I needed to have it pillar and skim bedded. I think this will be capable of shooting 1/2 in groups all day once it is back.

Re: Savage Finally Done!!

Not a lot you can do about the bottom metal sticking out since the stock has a curve upward for the factory metal inletting and the clearance in the front is dead on per CDI specs as it is.

I will see about milling the pillars a tad higher to raise the action some when I install them.

The bottom metal is a high quality item. CDI Precision is good stuff.

Re: Savage Finally Done!!

I figured there wouldn't be too much you could do about it. But hey it works great and that is what counts. I know this gun isn't going to win any beauty pageants!! But it sure will shoot!!
