Rifle Scopes scope recommendations for spr

I'm looking for a scope recommendation for an 18" AR15 SPR I built. It will mostly be used for shooting steel at 100-300 yards and occasionally at 600 yards. I have a 16" Recce with an Aimpoint for run and gun, so I thought maybe a 2-10 type scope would be best, but I'd listen to arguments for 1-6/8 or 3-15 if anyone has them. I basically don't want the scope to be too big and heavy, as I sometimes will fire it offhand rather than prone/bench.

I'd like to get an FFP in MIL if possible, other than that I don't have a lot of requirements. Budget would probably be up to $2000, but I'd really like to keep it under $1500 if possible, or even $1000 if such a scope suited my needs, as I have other projects I'd like to put money in.

We have more of the Nightforce C538 NXS - 2.5-10x24mm on the way to us which is a great SPR Option...

I was going to cut and paste the link to the optic above. If I was building an SPR that would be my first choice! It's a little over 1500 but worth every penny, I had the old one before they discontinued them back around 2010.

Do you like the 24 objective better than the 32 or 42?

I never had either of the others but loved the 24. Unless you need more light gathering for early morning or late evening hunting I would still pick the 24.... not that I found it lacking in those scenarios but I'm sure the larger Obj would aid in it. Also, the 24 looks bad @$$.

Heard a lot of great things about the NXS but it was out of my price range so I've got the viper pst 2.5-10x32 and it's been great for my spr. I hunt with it and have taken it to 800 on the range. Very repeatable and clear. The illumination isn't daylight useful but excellent for low light.

The Nightforce 2.5-10's are the way to go. I've owned them all, I like the 2.5-10x42 best. The x24 didn't work well in low light.

The NF 2.5-10x42 is a fine optic as all NF products are, but I felt this option is the weakest link of all the NF scopes from the NXS 3-15 all the way through the ATACRs. Although nice, I wasn't impressed and didn't feel it warranted the 1750 price. I was more impressed with the vortex pst 2-10 that can be had for less than 700 and feel the value is there for this optic. I'm a big NF fan, but my opinion is otherwise when talking their 2.5-10 lineup

I've got the vortex PST 2.5-10x44 which is SFP, but they make a 2.5-10x32 in FFP with a side focus that I imagine would be pretty slick. Just make sure to get a magnification ring throw lever, PSTs are tight... The gen 1 models are going fast, so I would go for one soon if you choose it

NXS 2.5 - 10 x32 with zero stop.

Nice compact scope. I'm throwing around the idea of moving up the magnification a bit...eyes could use some help.

Vortex new gen 2 2.5-10x32

The vortex par gen 2 is a 2-10, the gen 1 is 2.5-10. Both have adjustable parallax, but the gen 1 illumination is a separate knob on the objective. IMO a 1-8 also makes sense for a SPR build, though they are expensive and usually heavy.

Bushnell LRHS 3-12, maybe a fixed 10X US Optics or SWFA HD, IOR 1-10 (Pricey though), NF SHV 3-10, Burris XTR2 1.5-8, etc.... Lots of good options out there now a days. My SPR's usually have something in the 2-10, 3-12 power range. Occasionally I'll throw on a higher magnification scope when I'm trying to shoot tight groups or stretching them out to distance.

I've owned every flavor of the NF 2.5-10 series and the x24 is my favorite. Its compactness and lightweight is unmatched. I can't stand the illumination control on the x42, nor do I think adjustable parallax is necessary in that power range. If you're inside of 100, just back off the magnification. Not every target needs max.

All that being said, I REALLY didn't like FFP scopes in that power range. The lowest I'd even consider would be a 3-15, and that would need something like a standard mil-dot.

I use the Bushnell LRHS 3-12x44 on my SPR. Works great and the reticle is very usable at 3x.

The Nightforce 2.5-10x24 is a fantastic SPR option! MAP is $1,892.00 call for hide pricing! https://www.cstactical.com/nightforce-nxs-2-5-10x24-zerostop-mil-r-riflescope.aspx

Patiently waiting for the LRTSi to be released after using the 3-12 LRHS on a friend's SPR. It's the sweet spot for shooting 77gr 5.56 accurately IMO....

They are out there but there just are not many of them.

I snagged one for my T3.

Razor Gen ll 1-6x is great. Looking out to 500-600 yards is clear. It is all very easy for hold-overs and the 1x/red is prefect for close quarter. SFP is reallt the downside but in reality with the large eye box you will really only be at 1x or 6x. Being anything in between doesnt add value.
