My right elbow has been bothering me for the longest time and after being told it was nothing more than tendinitis aka tennis elbow, I ignored the pain as best I could and downed painkillers when I couldn't. I went in for another orthopedist appointment and lo and behold, the MRI revealed that I have a tendon tear and muscle damage. It will require surgery to fix and my dominant hand/arm will be in a cast for the better part of 12 weeks.

All of this crap comes after I finally obtained my dream rifle from (Surgeon Scalpel in AI AX chassis), and after waiting 10+ months for my TBAC 30BA to be approved. Then, I decided that I need to get into reloading so I bought a Forster Co-Ax, Redding dies, RCBS Chargemaster 1500, etc.

I get to sit, read about, and watch everyone else enjoys their toys while mine sit and collect dust.

Sucks dude and I hope you heal quicker than expected. Wonder if you caused any more damaged due to the bad diagnosis.

You could always list everything in the PX at prices that are just beyond reasonable and then amuse yourself by reading the ridiculous lowball offers as they roll in.

I'll take it. PM Sent.

:)

Sorry to hear that man. Nothing sucks more than getting a bunch of new toys and not able to play with them. While recovering from having my prostate removed due to cancer I was atleast able to do a bunch of loading. Hell, I even bought a good friend a set of dies and started reloading for him I was so damn bored !

Here's to a quick and successful recovery !!

Damn!! That REALLY sucks!!!

Hopefully you'll get it scheduled ASAFP and then get on to the healing/rehabing quicker so that once late summer rolls around, you'll be ready to get a jump on things then. In the meantime, best wishes and God speed you to a successful surgical fix and smooth post-op course so that you'll be back in the game soon, brother!!

Learn to shoot with the other hand... try a few other things with the weaker hand. Might surprise you what you find you can do while the one arm is in the cast. I had a friend who had back surgery and was in a body cast---one leg im-mobile, the other free. He did all kinds of stuff that summer, including catching a 30" Blue Fish while surf fishing in Maine. His cast did crack, and they replaced it, so he got to swap immobile legs part way through, which I know you won't be able to do, but you'll surprise yourself what you can figure out to do, even handicapped. And the best part is, you'll get repaired, and you'll be able to do much more later.

That's sucks. I feel your pain. I'm in week three of living in a sling. Shoulder surgery. It's still chilly up here, hopefully I'll be back to normal before it gets nice.

Actually you still have one good hand left i assume and its not always occupied so you can start reloading... Just watch out you dont get reloaders elbow.

You'll need some sort of cover activity to explain that Popeye forearm while you "make it so" with "Number 1."

Kill shot, man that sucks. I would fire the Doc that said tendonitis. If he knew his job you could have got it fixed in the fall and be well into rehab by now.

I'm sorry to here that KillShot. Get well soon. I avoid this injury myself by holding the porn mag in alternating hands. Also, if you sit on your hand until it goes to sleep, if feels like someone else is flogging it.

I feel (literally) your pain. Been fighting both elbows for a couple years now. Enriched plasma injections, tendon scraping, the usual NSAIDs, PT, etc. Nothing has worked. Down to the last option. Hope your surgery/recovery goes well.

guess you'll have to learn to jerk off with your other hand. Don't worry, it will feel like some strange :)

J/K bro....that really does fucking suck. Hope you have a faster recovery than expected.

Screw that, fix it over next winter and go ahead and shoot this summer. Broke my left thumb the night before my first deployment to OIF- flew for six months with a broken thumb, but when I finally went to the ortho doc after the deployment he was pissed but said no use for a cast now. So, problem solved, no cast! Even if you still need a cast after the summer they will still be making them then I promise you.

^^^^ This. It definitely sucks to go under the knife, but if there is no other way then just do it. I had Tommy John surgery on my right elbow last September and being right handed I did exactly what Sniper Uncle suggests. Do the surgery and get an aggressive physical therapist. Half assing it will cost you in the long run. You may want to harm them from time to time but the pain will be worth it. To cut is to cure.

Sucks

Get better bro. You'll be missing the heat, if there's a bright side? I think I could reload with only one arm, maybe get started on that and when the cast comes off you'll marvel at how much easier and faster it is with both arms. :)

BTW, bit your style and bought an ATACR today so even though you're a gimp you're still a trendsetter.

One of my old friends an old Warrant Officer one day broke his right arm his complaint was he was having a hard time trying to learn to wipe his ass with his left hand

But all joking aside get better and take it quietly better to have some down time and get fully repaired as opposed to a half bake job and you get this every other year and don't get full functionality out of your limb

I had a birth mark/mole cut out of my left forearm bout the size of a coffee cup couldn't stretch my arm out for a few years all this because they though it was going to end up as a melonoma

Well, here she is...painful as a mofo. There was a lot of muscle damage to repair and scar tissue to remove.

The operation was all of 20 minutes yesterday and follow up was this morning.

The doc said the staples will come out in two weeks and to work on slowly stretching the muscles as best I can.

Have I told you how much this shit sucks?

I had the same surgery two years ago...elbow has never been the same! I was off work for a year trying to rehab it, that given I do very heavy labor. Do what the doctor says and slowly start working it, it will help ease the healing time.

Are you going to be in a cast. If the arm has to be bent like your holding it, see if the Doc couldn't hook you up with a strong mold in the perfect prone position, just have to run the bolt over the top. LOL or I bet someone will loan you a lefty to run. for real tho get better soon.

Post op pain is the worst. Hope you have a full and speedy recovery.

Dude! You shave your arms!

Ghey...

Get well soon!

I know. I've been under the knife...

All the best and enjoy getting to know your new best friend Lefty.

Get well soon killshot. It sucks to have use of one arm as I e been there and done that. Blowjobs from the misses can be a nice way to pass the time, and very therapeutic I might add.

That sucks Brother,

You may as well be a contractor. I have a safe full of new toys and optics I haven't been home long enough to shoot in so long it's pitiful. My last time home I had ONE day where I was able to get out to the range and it rained so damn hard I couldn't even see the target.

When I'm home for good the Ortho wants to cut both of my shoulders, which would end up being over a year of being with one arm or the other. I passed on that idea.

I think you may find you're going to be able to do more than you originally thought. Hell, shoot a gasser for a while if you can't run a bolt. I'm confident you'll find a way.

Best of luck with it bro.

Or a soldier. I second the safe full of goodies that remain unused. At a least a few of my buds are enjoying a few of my toys. As said here, you will find ways to get-r-done. Just resist the tempatation to cut the caste off with your leatherman saw. Its likely no matter how much it seems to be a good idea at the time, docs do not believe it is the best course of action!

Work that arm...

Below is a shot of my elbow last September. If you don't have an aggressive physical therapist, or one at all, then find one. PT is best conducted by someone used to rehabing sports injuries. The sooner and harder you go after it the better the recovery, but that person needs to also know where to put on the brakes. A good one will cause pain and have you wondering if you are doing more harm than good, and if you should punch them in the neck. You will always feel like protecting that area and not using it but ya gotta avoid atrophy and keep range of motion. I know it sucks ass, but you will be back up and gunning faster than you think. Heal up brother!

I had tennis elbow and it took damn near 10months for the pain to go away. Trick is using ice. Id put ice and water in a gallon size zip lock bag, 2 total, and put one under and the other over my elbow everyday until it got better. No issues now. Problem is i love lifting weights and had to stop using that arm in the gym for the elbow to get 100% better. Tennis elbow sucks cobra's ding dong!

That was pretty good, what happened? I wasn't impressed with PT but I was swimming 1k meters at lunch before PT in the afternoon. My story.

LRI, holy shit. I didn't have anything like yours. I'm glad you're alive and not crippled.

Mine is the result of lifetime of not rehabing injuries and the cumulative effect of tearing this and that tissue without giving things the time to heal. A once upon a time coach (moron) had me throw an arm out, getting stretch-armstronged while fast roping then fast stopping (which also tore the bicep), taking a spill on a dirt bike and thinking "that wasn't so bad" until another bike hit me... One of the reasons I had surgery was my pull stroke (jokes please) was getting unbearable and I couldn't hit 500 yards without searing pain. Cortisone has its limits. I finally got serious about rehab 7 years ago after ACL surgery.

Like the OP I had lots of scar tissue to clear out. The doc described it as being like flaky fish flesh. KillShot, I'm curious about how you're doing 3 or 4 months down the road, and if there is any lingering pain. I have the smallest amount of pain which is the result of residual scar tissue. Not anywhere near bad enough to go under the knife again, but I heard about a new technique that is minimally invasive and uses something like a vibrating tool head to whittle the scar tissue away. If you still have pain at that point we might share a little info on what to do about it. My lungs are now my limitation when swimming instead of a torn UCL.

Edit: In addition to clearing out the scarring it was Tommy John Surgery.

Doing pretty good actually, still working on my pullups and the arm doesn't fully extend but I'm swimming every day and shooting competitively (pistol). The Staph-E and DVT blood clot weren't fun, I'll say that :D

I'm throwing the BS flag here, the real reason Shankster alternates hands is because the chicks he spanks it to are so catastrophically hefty that even their pics weigh 15 pounds.

I feel your pain. Ripped my pec muscle off the humorous last July. Killed shooting and anything right handed for almost 5 months. Including wiping my ass. You never get used to going lefty. Good luck and hope you recover quickly.

Sometimes reality is not your best friend. But an inquisitive and active mind always is. Take a vacation from shooting. It's not the end of the world.

I've gone through cancer twice, and an essentially fatal heart attack. So for at least three instances, I've been forced by reality to put the guns and handloader aside for over a year each time.

Time passes, and if you spend it bellyaching, you waste all of it. If you try to cheat your way around the restrictions, you could end up where you are now for life. I have a friend who's done exactly that in the past year.

There is more to life than shooting. Find something to intensely occupy your mind/body during the interim, and your life will swell to something more than being a one-trick pony.

Imagine having to go where I've been forced to go.

Greg

I've had 11 surgeries.

I agree, occupy your time learning a new skill or shoot pistol left handed. I did some left handed pistol shooting today.

Get well soon though Matt, I know how excited you've been to get that new rifle to the range! I don't blame you one bit.
