The Resident Evil/Biohazard series of video games and their film "adaptations" feature a multinational conglomerate called the Umbrella Corporation, which uses that red-and-white umbrella logo. Umbrella has its hands in all sorts of industries including bioweapons research that results in the titular "biohazard", several assorted viruses that cause zombie outbreaks, weird mutations, etc on assorted human populations. The "joke" here is that a real-world company with a similar logo running a biolab that may be involved in some kind of viral warfare program was located in the same area where there's been an outbreak of a brand-new kind of dangerous virus, a la Resident Evil.
